The Holocaust deniers and neo-Nazis at Gab are publicly calling the POTUS to switch to their platform and bring his followers.
Free market in action.

And…here comes the hammer for the nail. Have at it, fellas.
I see the same competitors ( ms, google, amazon, fb) coming with their own versions or buying up new ideas. Just odd to me that they are relatively all pretty far left.
Maybe conservatives can’t come up with new ideas?
I have a Facebook I never post on (largely just get on it to see pictures of nieces and nephews and a twitter account I had for an old job I never used). I think new stuff pops up a lot. Pinterest, instagram, Snapchat, Tik Tok off the top of my head recently. I’m sure countless others exist. It may be a bit difficult to vault to the top like Facebook but we have a lot of competitors in the market.
It’s not that plenty of avenues don’t exist it’s just that the President wants to be active on one of the biggest. And again where are the supporters just saying ok maybe that sucks, but just post facts POTUS? It’s another they are trying to overturn the 2016 election nonsense.
It’s even more stupid when we realize that if the President loses his own comments on Twitter may be a large part of the reason.
I’m not calling for them to be banned. They can do their “calculations” about the “true” number of Holocaust victims and I can call them Holocaust deniers and neo-Nazis.
There’s Gab.
You are one of the most educated people in the history of man.
But this post? Sigh.
The fact that these companies had decades of “protection” had no effect on their success?
Who said it didn’t? Of course it helped - that was the entire point. And any new startup would have the same protections.
My God this is hilarious. “Conservatives” who are sure the solution is in the government regulating more - in the world of speech, no less. I mean, genuinely hilarious.
But this post? Sigh.
Anything factually incorrect about it? They are running a campaign to get Trump on Gab. The part about them being neo-Nazis and Holocaust deniers is also well established.
vice.com

Gab users have been instructed to tweet at and write to the president urging him to join the network, which is filled with conspiracy theories, racism, and antisemitism.
Of course Trump won’t leave Twitter, like in everything else he’s bluffing.
I have a Facebook I never post on (largely just get on it to see pictures of nieces and nephews and a twitter account I had for an old job I never used).
I could just be out of the loop, as this is same for me.
It was just a curiosity from a bbusiness standpoint.

I’m hoping a better framework can be provided that what we have now, with transnational monopolies holding de-facto control over a primary method of information distribution in today’s society.
If you really need to, go right ahead. I have it coming, after all…
Call me a liberal.
Of course, you know l dont read vice.
But never heard of Gab. Literally never.
My comment was directed at your nazi tie in.
The prez was literally a life long dem, maybe thats why he is so obnoxious.

Yeah I’m mainly in the loop on that shit just because I work with high school kids. While Twitter and Facebook remain behemoths in the industry no doubt the idea that no competition is out there isn’t remotely factual. And Facebook and Twitter are shrinking and not growing. If people wanted to use the monopoly thing in regards to them the time to do that (even when it was still wrong) wasn’t now.
It’s more along the lines of far right wingers not liking that some companies don’t want awful shit linked to their company. Someone think of the racists!
What do you mean you’ve never heard of Gab?
ALL of my conservative friends are hanging out over at www.gab.com. Hop into the tubes and surf on over. Don’t forget to use code TWOJAR to sign up for the premium membership. Only five bitcoins per month, also payable in bulk ammunition or canned goods with >95 percent shelf life remaining.
Tell them Uncle TwoJar sent you!

I was just saying that there is a far-right social network ready to accept POTUS. So free market in action, an alternative exists.
Sure, it’s filled with fans of mass shooters, Nazis and angry incels but that’s not the point. An alternative exists. There’s this Alex guy there also.
Breitbart – 8 Aug 18

At least 16,000 new users so far have followed Alex Jones to free speech social media platform Gab after Jones was banned from most other major social media platforms this week.
de-facto control over a primary method of information distribution in today’s society.
It isn’t in control - I’m not on Twitter, never have been. But I’m well-informed. You can never, ever log on and still get all the information you need via the various sources available.
I mean, this is abjectly ridiculous. It’s one medium out of hundreds.
@Aragorn Do you really think there is meaningful competition out there?
I do. And I while I do see a bit of a double standard I don’t think I see it near as heavily as you do. I believe more of that comes from the fact that younger demographics tend to both skew liberal and also use social media IMMENSELY more than those even 5 years older. By and large I see pretty much any stream of conservative idea that I want in social media personally.
Everyone’s experience is different though.
Maybe there are better, more libertarian-minded legislative approaches to sorting this out. There probably is, but a good plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow
I just don’t see eye to eye with you that this constitutes a “good” plan. I agree we need a liberty minded structure, I just don’t think this is it. However I am not 100% informed on this yet so I’m not going to get too rash until I think some more.
Soooo are we cool with allowing folks to intentionally spread disinformation on social media meant to sway the USA’s elections?
I guess i just don’t see the problem with twitter slapping on an emblem suggesting readers fact check the post. If you have more than 10k followers, twitter gets to fact check your dumbass posts on dumbass social media, so all the other dumbasses reading it don’t get even dumber.
However I am not 100% informed on this yet so I’m not going to get too rash until I think some more.
The Trump Train’s 'a rolling on this regardless of how rash you or I get. We all get to learn what happens together.
But my positions on policy and what I want someone to do matter less at this point. And it isn’t just me who feels this way. Aragorn probably describes himself as center right and he’s said it’s the way he acts that I can’t possibly vote for. My biggest head scratcher is more people on the right not feeling that way. He’s essentially the complete opposite of what they have said they wanted.
This is exactly correct as far as my personal position goes. Policy matters a very great deal to me, but it’s not the be all end all. Behavior as an adult and leader of the free world is more important personally.
I posted elsewhere that given the choice and a gun to my head I would have to vote for Obama over Trump - not because I liked his policies (there are years of me criticizing him on here) - but because he acts like someone who is civil, treats others decently, and acts like an adult. And ultimately, I believe that matters most.
The Trump Train’s 'a rolling on this regardless of how rash you or I get.
Yes, and Twitter was a key part of his digital strategy. That’s why he’s upset.
You can’t communicate this much raw anger and foster so much insecurity if it’s simply being conveyed by a talking head on Fox. He needs a direct connection to his base.
