The Police

Frank Zappa and Rush.

That’s about it. Although Frank wasn’t really an “80’s band”, per se.[/quote]

omg zappa is so annoying lol

Wrapped Around Your Finger is such a sexy song… sooooo sexy

You consider me the young apprentice
Caught between the scylla and charybidis
Hypnotized by you if I should linger
Staring at the ring around your finger

I have only come here seeking knowledge
Things they wouldnt teach me of in college
I can see the destiny you sold
Turned into a shining band of gold

Ill be wrapped around your finger
Ill be wrapped around your finger

Mephistopheles is not your name
But I know what youre up to just the same
I will listen hard to intuition
And you will see it come to its fruition

Ill be wrapped around your finger
Ill be wrapped around your finger

Devil and the deep blue sea behind me
Vanish in the air youll never find me
I will turn your flesh to alabaster
Then you will find your servant is your master

And youll be wrapped around my finger
Youll be wrapped around your finger
Youll be wrapped around your finger

Genesis
U2
Van Halen
Dire Straits
Rush
ZZ Top

All right up there with the Police, imo.

P.s. Honorable Mention:
REO Speedwagon
Journey
Scorpions
Def Leppard

You’re not the first person to think that.

Zenyatta Mondatta == the best album ever.

I also used to blast a mix tape with “Can’t Stand Losing You” on it in my parent’s Chevy conversion van like I was a bad-ass.

Sting is still cool though there was a period in my life I would never have admitted it to anyone.

Interviewer:“What’s it like to be the best drummer in the world?”

Neil Peart:“I don’t know. Ask Stewart Copeland.”

LOL…I’ve met Neil several times and I could actually picture him saying that. Despite his God-like talent (and drumset) he’s a really humble, reserved guy who feels embarrassed when attention is focused on him.

That said though, Neil >>> Copeland

Slayer > The Police

/80’s Music Discussion

All Police songs sound soooooooo similar. They never branched out, and thats why IMO they aren’t that great. Sure, Roxanne, Message in a bottle etc. are great songs, but they’re all the same.

Oh and Van Halen was waaaaaaaaaaaaay better

I hate the Police. I have ever since 1981 when my class was on a bus from El Paso to Austin for some tour of the UT campus.

The guy in the seat in front of me brought a boom box, and only one tape: The Police. Don’t know what album it is but he played it over and over and over and over for about 700 miles over there, and 700 miles back.

To this day, I cannot listen to a Police song - especially “Da Do Do Do Da Da Da Da”. It makes me want to drive into a bridge abutment.

really you think they all sound the same? The ballads have a similarity but if you listened to entire albums you would hear the different songs. Or, to me they sounded different.

You know who really sounded monotonous in the 80’s? WHITNEY HOUSTON! holey moley that was so boring. They even played a song out here set to one of her tunes, “All my songs they sound the saaaaaammmmmmmmmmme”

Depeche Mode was also a good 80’s band

but The Police and Boingo ruled for me

Andy Summer’s autobiography is a great read. Talks a lot about his relationship with Sting. Andy’s solo guitar projects since The Police broke up are also really awesome.

DB’s list of good 80’s band is spot-on,but left off Prince !

Prince was not a band. Besides, he couldn’t even win a “Battle of the Bands” in his own movie! Booyah!

“Don’t you never say an unkind word about the Time! Me and Silent Bob modeled our whole fucking lives around Morris Day and Jerome. I’m a smooth pimp who loves the pussy. And Tubby here is my black man servant. What?”

But he is a kick ass ball player.

Sting is a homo.

The Police sucked. Their only good song was Roxanne.

Invisible Sun and Walking on the Moon are probably my favorite Police tracks.
