Granola Ice Cream, Version 2
Used a basic vanilla base with 2.5 scoops of MD Protein, then mixed in some new no-added-sugar granola by Alter Eco. Pretty good stuff. Here it is on Amazon.
Yes, once again, this means you can eat ice cream for breakfast: milk, cereal, and nearly 70 grams of protein.

The peach isn’t very peachy. It’s good but could use a kick of peach jello or something to jazz it up. Could have mixed in more frozen peaches I guess but not sure that would be enough.

Strawberry take 2.
I measured some of it this time. 1/2 cup fat free Greek yogurt, 1 scoop MD, 1/2 cup a2 milk, cut up ripe strawberries about a cup, 1 tsp strawberry gelatin sugar free. Blended it with a cheap immersion stick blender thing, really handy for this btw. Topped off with a bit more milk I’d say a 1/4 cup to get it to the appropriate level. Going to freeze and see how that goes. Smelled good.
Thinking of doing a lemon pudding and blueberry flavor. Sounds good on paper but not sure in ice cream.
Yeah, it’s hard to get that traditional peach flavor without using an artificial flavoring. I teaspoon or two of peach gelatin does the trick. Another option is to blend some real peach slices into the base. It’s a bit icy though given the water content.
Blueberry
Now that I have 30+ recipes, I’ve started to make two per day: one staple that’s always good (peanut butter cup, mocha, etc.) plus one experimental idea. This was the experimental one. Really good, but for me it’s hard to beat anything chocolatey.
BASE:
- 12 oz. milk of choice (I used 1%)
- 2 scoops MD Protein, vanilla
- 1 drop of blue food coloring (optional, I skipped it)
Freeze and spin, then…

Thaw 1/4th cup of frozen wild blueberries. When they thaw, you’ll have some juice at the bottom of the bowl. (Use a microwave if needed.) Take 1 tablespoon of that blueberry juice, add it to the pint, and re-spin it.

Now make a hole in the middle, add the blueberries, and hit the mix-in button.

This strawberry recipe is freaking awesome. Couldn’t really pickup any yogurt taste. May try with a bit more yogurt next go around, 3/4 of a cup.
Quick question, have you all noticed the lite ice cream button is louder and takes a bit longer but overall seems to make smoother ice cream than the ice cream button? Not sure what the difference is besides the noise and time and possibly higher rpms. Both work fine but the lite button seems to be a bit better.
I’ll have to try adding yogurt. Haven’t played with that yet.
You know, I’ve only ever used the “lite” setting. I assume it’s a power/time thing, probably more of both since the direction book talks about how it’s harder to make no-sugar or very low fat recipes, so maybe that requires more churning. I’m just guessing.
The initial spin button definitely causes more noise than the re-spin and mix-in buttons. That’s the top complaint from users: it’s loud. Maybe with its success, they’ll come out with a quieter machine.
I want one in stainless myself, preferably with stainless pints. I looked for those from a third party manufacturer, but no dice. I did find these cool storage containers though. Here they are on Amazon.

Hey I have another one of a famous dumb questions… does this thing also just make regular ol’ Ice cream ?
If so Has anyone tried making it and how does it compare to the high protein stuff you all are trying out ?
I haven’t made fat-guy ice cream with it but the recipe book it comes with is full of traditional recipes. If it makes my healthed-up version so well, I’m sure it’s great for regular ice cream. Standard ingredients look a lot like this one:
So, just under 1000 calories and only 10 grams of protein per pint.

Asked my wife to order a couple of those stainless steel Ice Cream Canteens for storage. They work great… though I might have chosen different colors.
Note: They work VERY well. If you put them in the freezer then take them out to eat ice cream, prepare to wait an hour or longer before you can get a spoon into it.

Sorry if it has been asked, are you using the deluxe version or the standard model?
For what I would use it for, ice cream, I don’t think I need the deluxe and could spend the money I saved on extra containers.

@Chris_Shugart, I’ve got your back…since I asked this same question: He’s using the NC301. The basic is the NC300. However, it’s not the “Deluxe”.

By the way, he says the only difference is two additional buttons which he has never used. I probably should’ve put that in my original response.

Yep, as @believer423 said, I bought what I thought was the basic model since it wasn’t as expensive, but it looks like it was a slightly upgraded or newer version. But it’s still not the “deluxe” which has all the buttons (which most people will never use) and a larger capacity: INFO
But, I say go for the smaller one with fewer buttons. Saves money and it’s all most people really need. Ordering extra pints makes more sense than spending a lot more on a bigger machine with unnecessary buttons.

Thanks for taking time to do all of these recipes. My son has issues with food textures and getting protein down him is a challenge to put it mildly. He does however love ice cream, like any kid, so I plan on sneaking in protein using your recipes here.
