The Next President of the United States: IV

Is a wall not a security measure? Ancient China thought so…

Yeah, but they are united! Except for the Bernie fans, the people who boo’d the opening prayer and those interrupted a moment of silence for fallen police officers with chants of “Black Lives Matter!” Heck, that was the people who were in the auditorium…

It’s funny, everyone thought the RNC would be the place where all hell would break loose. Not even close.

If Hillary didn’t have the all-star line up of speakers, that convention would have been about as fun as going to the DMV.

Read what I wrote again. It’s ludicrous that you take issue with security being a priority at a convention nominating a potential president elect.

I reckon the point went right over your head.

“Politician A is for banning guns but she sure likes to be surrounded by bodyguards with guns!”

If politican A is against citizen gun ownership but surrounds herself with bodyguards who are armed, the scales are similar. There is no fallacy.

Yes but what are those various means? My point is that it is still ultimately in the hands of the voters. Super delegates asside

Yes, for sure it’s in the hands of the voters but as we found out with the leaks the head of the DNC was pushing for Hillary every chance she had.

And according to ABC, and other sources it was quite unfair. It’s one thing to have the support of the Chairperson quite another to be plotting with the Chairperson against the other candidate in the race. How much did it help? I have no idea. Would the Pants Suit have won anyway? Probably. But if you are Bernie Sanders you have to be one very pissed off Socialist.

Trump now has an AMA.

On a related note, I would love if the US would introduce something like the UK’s Prime Minister’s questions.

Holding the top guy’s feet to the fire is entertaining and valuable.

That would be great!

Clinton is literally fighting for her life. Trump plans to prosecute Clinton for email scandals and everyone else involved.

(If elected)

I tune in every week that parliament is in session. Some absolute howlers every week,

Absolutely. I have tuned in from across the pond from time to time. As much as I stand behind the republican form of government we have I wish like hell our actual sessions more resembled parliamentary ones as well as a PMQ regularly.

There is an issue of separation of powers, given that our executive is, for all intents and purposes, our legislature. But the head of the executive being answerable before the legislature would seem to help the Republican system more than ours, no?

I would be interested to know of any glaring downsides I am missing.

Nope, I agree–definitely a huge plus to have to stand before the legislature regularly and take heat!

I really enjoy the process when I watch it, but it isn’t a good fit for our (non-parliamentary) system for the reason you noted - separation of powers. Our executive is not at all “answerable” to our legislature.

I think it would still be much better because even though not directly answerable, it would give people a chance to see direct interrogation with no media “middle man” to run a narrative. That would be worth it by itself.

British comedy classics. I really love the way they conduct business for entertainment purposes at least.
