Trump is doing what he is doing not to avoid a debate, he already has this thing locked up, but more to make a deal with Roger Ailes and Fox.
Should Trump do his fundraiser for veterans (a brilliant tactical move), he will steal viewers from Fox, as seen by a poll where 83% of those polled would not watch Fox if Trump is not in the debate.
This whole thing is about Trump and his personal beef with being treated like a scrub while being the front runner by a solid margin. He wants the respect of being the leader and having been the leader for a long time.
But he is acting like a bitch with this whining, it is getting old and tiresome to hear him complain when he should wipe his ass and cowboy the fuck up.
Megyn Kelly was tough on all the candidates. Asking Trump about things he said is not unfair, it is what a journalist should do.
Things are far from locked up. Last I heard there is still 40% undecided vote, and the non-Trump/Cruz votes are split among too many candidates. When candidates start dropping out (hopefully soon), 30% will not be an absolute victory.
I’ve decided to start calling these folks CINO’s for Conservative In Name Only or maybe PINO’s for Principles In Name Only as his supports are neither real conservatives nor are they principled people.
What else would one expect from the typical political debate junkie? Seriously, look at the venom being spewed by you guys and tell me with a straight face that you aren’t capable of the same thing.
I mean, yes, in a forum like this I might call a candidate an idiot or something along those lines, but I would not call the candidates, moderators, reports, etc… vile names because we disagree on policy. I certainly wouldn’t anonymously tweet it to them. I see that as different, maybe it’s not.
Watched the undercard and about an hour and half of the main event. I wasn’t particularly impressed with anyone. I thought Paul, Rubio, Cruz, and Bush each had some good moments. I don’t think Cruz or Rubio handled the immigration issue all that well, though.
I can see a minor bump for Bush, Rubio, and Cruz. Otherwise, I think everyone else remained the same or lost some ground.
The undercard was good, but probably irrelevant. We’ll see. I still like Fiorina at least in some capacity. A cabinet member maybe.
I agree, nothing new was learned about any candidate. It was nice to see the conversation and disagreements were about policy, which wasn’t surprising with Trump absent.
I’m excited for actual votes to take place in Iowa and NH so the field can narrow.
Nothing new was learned for people who have been following this race for 6+ months, but for people who are undecided or hadn’t heard of candidates policies, it showed where they stand on specific issues. All candidates need more support, so there is plenty to gain. ~40% of Iowa is undecided. I think it further shows how he divides people as it seemed to strengthen his current support, but ~30% of republican voters doesn’t get you anything. He has to get a majority to win the nomination, and that doesn’t happen by not showing up to try and convince people of his positions.
Reality TV star to president is a bit more of a jump.
Among his supporters, no. Among non-Trump fanboys? I think it did. He continues to divide, unfortunately to win you have to bring not only the party together (for the nomination), but you will have to win over democrats/independents
USMC - Both Trump and Ronnie spoke with a similar strength from my memory, they both have a quick wit about them, and cut through with few words. The moment I recall where Reagan really broke out was when he yelled that he was paying for his microphone when he was unable to get a word in.
Drew - Obama had 2 years in the Senate, not exactly a lengthy resume there. I agree that he will have to win over some tough voters to win out, but consider that he was expected to be gone the moment he “insulted Mexicans.”
An interesting point I heard today, the debate last night is what the race would be like without Trump. Boring, predictable, same old cliches and platitudes.
