I know this, I actually met Marcinko…he autographed his book for me and was kind enough to speak to me and my father for a little while, a true warrior in every sense of the word.
But you really think that a non-flag level officer (even one as kick ass as Demo Dick) founds a entire unit? He was the plank holding commander, absolutely…but Lyons was the sea daddy.
And what I am saying IS, I’m going to believe the word of a 4-star…who had the biggest command in the United States military…over the word of a 30 year old future desk jockey with a BS in international studies.
You left out the second part of that sentence. It is frustrating to post numerous cogent, heavily supported posts only to have charges of elitism and anti-intellectualism shit thrown in my direction - all by individuals who have yet to demonstrate a 101 understanding of the subject at hand (American foreign policy and national security).
Red Cell was 14 members strong, which is one person stronger than a Marine infantry squad. We aren’t talking about a division here. With all due respect, Lyons was a surface fleet officer, not an operator. He lacked the small unit and special operations expertise to be intimately involved with the affair. By all accounts he was a hell of an officer in spite of his lacking political sensibility (which is necessary for a strategic level officer, look no further than the contrast between Eisenhower and Patton). He tasked Marcinko with creating the unit, who went on to hand pick the unit’s plank holders.
You seem to have struggle with reading comprehension. What exactly are Lyons and I disagreeing about? Do you or do you not agree with the questions I posed which came straight from Lyons mouth?
You have a fundamental misunderstanding of the relationship between academia, think tanks, and the U.S. defense and intelligence communities. These components of the American foreign policy establishment are symbiotic, not hostile to one another.
Have your read Marcinko’s non-fiction, heard him speak? If you did, you would know the relationship with Lyons.
Lyons saw to need to cut radical Islam off at the head, that was what I was agreeing with him on. He mentioned several missions that were approved, but were shitcanned by folks who were too busy tiptoeing through the tulips to see the bigger picture.
My fundamental misunderstanding is how you are qualified to lecture on these topics as if you have a vitae that justifies it.
So who are these people actually wanting to carry the GOP torch?
With only 2300 votes out of 1.1 MM in WI going to the 3 candidates, what were so many voting for? Or is it that supporters are so opposed to to any but their first choice?
Plenty of things are said in the heat of a primary which are quickly withdrawn when it comes to the general election. Those who hate Ted Cruz and threaten to stay home or vote for a third party candidate will be looking straight into the face of Hillary Clinton as their next President. And that is something that is far more intolerable than a President Cruz.
Trump on the other hand has the highest negatives ever recorded in Presidential politics at this point in an election. There is much to dislike about this candidate. Fortunately, he will not be the nominee.
Hmmm…I actually think Kasich staying in the race is the only way there is a chance that Trump does not get the 50% he needs to get all the delegates in NY.
And it’s funny how every time the Trump apologists start talking about the noises his campaign makes about pivoting to a more presidential tone, Trump pulls something like his concession statement after Wisconsin accusing Cruz of breaking the law, and calling him Lying Ted. LOL. Nobody changes at age 69, especially when what they’ve been doing has worked for 69 years.
If I’m not mistaken, its starting to sound like you’ve landed a job that has something to do with your degree. If so, congrats. I will officially eat crow for stating that poli-sci fi degrees are utterly fucking useless.
It better be on top the top of a desk though. Those under desk positions don’t actually count.
I can’t see a scenario at this point where Trump doesn’t throw a fit and try to take the party down with him if he doesn’t get the nomination. He will have the most delegates going into the convention (unless Ted wins 80% + from here on out).
Will Trump supporters back Cruz if he is the nominee, or burn the house down in protest?
But you said earlier in this thread if Trump is the candidate, you’ll vote Constitution Party (or similar), right? That the only way you’d vote GOP is if Cruz was the nominee?
