The KimbaLog

Alisa, don’t be impressed by the figure skating – I gave up it a few years back due to risk of injury.

Mascherano, thanks for the encouragement.

CBear, that $10 will remain on the table. Uncollected.

Last night’s training wasn’t a barn-burner in terms of PRs, but I felt good about addressing some deadlift form issues, and did a full ROM Good Morning for the first time. Not every training can be stellar, but at least this one was solid.

Sumo Deadlifts
On risers:
65# 1 x 10 warmup
95# 1 x 5 warmup
115# 1 x 5 warmup
From floor:
135# 1 x 5
155# 2 x 3
135# 1 x 5

The form issue I am trying to address is tucking my butt under instead of sticking my butt out and getting a nice arch in my back. At 155#, this is still a struggle but I am seeing improvement. At the moment, I’m just seeking to add reps (good form ones) at 135# and 155# until I’m feeling more comfortable with the technique.

Bench

75# 1 x 7, 1 x 6
70# 1 x 7

Eh. I am working slowly to 3 sets of 10 at 75#. Snails pace slowly.

Good Mornings
Bar 3 x 10
These were notable because I did a full ROM, getting my torso parallel to the floor. Even with just the bar, these were challenging. I will add a tiny bit of weight next time.

Face Pulls with External Rotation
Done like this:

22.5kg 1 x 10
27.5kg 1 x 10
32.5kg 1 x 10

Trying to work on posture with these.

One armed DB Bent-Over Rows
50# 1 x 8 <–rep PR +2
Ran out of time to do more sets, but I’m still quite chuffed to be picking up a 50.

Decline sits
BW 1 x 20
Again, ran out of time to do more.

Today’s training: 40 minutes of cross-country ski skating, done interval style cause this is just so damn hard that I can only last about 3 minutes before needing a rest.

Now, off to make cheesy scalloped potatoes to bring to a holiday party. Weight this AM was 110lbs – about 1.5 lbs down. I need to eat calories and at this point I’m not picky what.

Man, I weigh about one and a half Kimbas right now.
Nice going with the work - the posture thing is a toughie. I don’t think you can rush it, you just have to keep on working it until your body gets it right.
Potatoes…mmmm.

Kimba,
Very nice. Your fanaticism about form will pay off for sure. We’re about even on the dead, but you suck for rowing 50s for 8 reps. xo

I have about 20lbs I would be willing to donate!
Maybe 10 for you and 10 for A.

I can’t imagine having the opposite problem, of trying to keep weight ON!

Sunday AM training was postponed until Sunday PM due to snowstorm.

Back Squats
Bar 1 x 10 ATG warmup.

To three risers plus a step:
75# 1 x 5
95# 1 x 5
105# 1 x 3
To four risers plus a step:
115# 1 x 1
I just totally ran out of gas. Going lower than usual takes ALOT out of me.

Barbell Hip Thrusts (Shoulders on Bench)
135# 1 x 10
155# 1 x 10
175# 1 x 5, 1 x 7 <–PR +20 lbs

Military Press
Bar 1 x 10 <–rep PR +3
50# 1 x 6, 1 x 3

Dips (full ROM)
10# dumbbell between thighs 3 x 10 ← Rep PR +1 on the last two sets, plus all reps were low enough and locked out at the top

Back Raises
10# plate behind head 1 x 20

Squats sort of sucked, but other things went well. An all around good day.

A kimba as a weight of measure. That’s funny! After a hard nite of eating and drinking, the scale said 111.5# this AM which is exactly right. We’ll see what tomorrow brings.

Yeah, but you’ve got me by the nuts on weighted chins. So to speak.

 Loved it.

In my mind, I’ve had the goal of getting back to the squat PR (125# for 5 reps) that I set way back in September, but this time at legal depth. However, it may be that 4 risers plus a step is still just not low enough. It may be that I need to work my way back up to 125# using three risers plus a step as a depth guide:

This vid is from yesterday’s workout. I think for sure this depth is powerlifting legal. Someone correct me if I’m wrong!

Looked good to me, those with more experience would be better judges however. Big time squating.

the depth looks legal, but even after i hit “replay” the video kept pausing, claymation style. booo. now i cant pick apart your form!

Lookin good Kimba ~

Depth was legal, but you’d pick up 3 red lights for f’n lady gaga in the background. “Olaf, metal!”

Nice work, despite the technical defect.

Joe, thanks for the encouragement!

Alas. I would have so liked that.

Thanks N! Squats are a constant battle.

Jack, I’m shocked that you aren’t a lady gaga fan. Shocked, I tell you.

Thanks for the white lights on depth!

Your training is really paying off. :)[/quote]

Sweet! But they seem admire your vocabulary rather than your butt and arms. fools!

I’m a nerd, what can I say? It’s not like I didn’t notice those other items, I just go for the brain compliments first.

Words hurt, tsk tsk.

Hey mama, I can’t critique your form since I lack experience, but I will say that the squats looked great!

thanks for posting vids! Really helpful for newbs like me to see how others lift around here.

DCA, I like your priorities.

Thanks Mascherano! I am happy to be able to help you, while at the same time reaping the benefits of advice from people that are more knowledgeable than I. Its a win-win for everyone.

Nice work

I keep forgetting that you are TINY good work moving more weight

Sure you do…

Well, its funny. But I don’t think of myself as tiny. Its sort of like one of those Yorkshire Terriers who will take on the Rottweiler because they don’t know they’re small.

Today’s training featured a couple of memorable items.

Back squats to 3 risers plus step (yep, permanently going lower)
Bar 1 x 10 warmup
65# 1 x 10
85# 1 x 10
95# 1 x 10 <–5 more reps than on Sunday
65# 1 x 15

Bench
75# 1 x 8
65 2 x 12

Eh.

GHR (Partner assist)
BW 1 x 20

I really liked these and hope to do them again. Huge burn in my hammies.

Dips (Full ROM)
BW 1 x 25 ← PR +3

I was really proud of these!

Pull-ups (neutral grip)
BW 1 x 3

Walking lunges
15s in each hand, once around the gym

Lots of ab work

Then lots of food shopping for Christmas Eve dinner, which is at my house. I’m a huge grinch, but lots of champagne will make the cooking job easier.
