What would you guy say to lowering requirements so more minorities “get in,” but not accepting those minoriies initially as LEOs as might be the case with those who passed the “harder” exam? i.e., give a probationary period (pun?) and make them learn on the job before they have any power whatsoever?

This is absurd. Why lower requirements?
More PC bullshit.
Devil’s advocate:

Good compromise or no?
Depending on state and department, this is the case.
Common sense and mindset are the some of the greatest attributes an officer can possess along with moral restraint. Entrance exams serve a necessity but ironically, on completion of the academy, each officer is told to forget what he/she was taught and learn the reality of the streets as they embark upon their actual field training.
I will take a seasoned officer (of any race) with a PhD in the fucking real world before any highly educated fool. Practicality knows no substitute.

This has nothing to do with equality. Its an example of myopic problem solving.
Kinda just waiting for someone to come out and say the underlying theme of the thread: White people are just smarter and better than minorities, and those dumb/lazy blacks/mexicans are bringing everything down, and "equality’ ruins everything for the better (white) people.
Well, I certainly don’t think that but what are we saying when we lower the standards in order to hire more minorities? What’s going on there?
We’re saying we don’t care why they’re getting lower scores. We dont care to explore the economic, psychological, social or cultural factors that could lead to certain types of people not doing well on certain tests. And we sure as HELL aren’t going to listen to them about it.
We’re just going to lower the standards. Myopic problem solving.
In a broad sense, I do not disagree with you. However, “certain kind of tests?” The civil service test? Any fucking retard could/should pass that. If you doubt me, just look around at your current LEO and other public service employees.
This initially perturbed me but unfortunately your right.

Yes, I know some that give the exams here, they will openly admit it gives no indication of your ability to complete the job. Most just indicate how well you can recite back a situation.

Sooooo, there are really only two possible explanations.
Either Hispanics and African Americans are just way more stupid than average, or intellgent members of said minorities would not want to become a police officer if you offered them free blowjobs.
It could be that those people are simply a tad disenchanted with the system.
Or those Hispanics and Blacks score lower on those tests for reasons other than “they are stupid” - and “lower the standards” isn’t the right answer at all. Hence I called the solution myopic.
But I’m at risk of throwing around liberal talking points like “social inequalities”.
Social inequalities? That’s such an overused, bullshit excuse. Everyone in this country is given equal opportunity to succeed if they’re willing to put in the effort. It really pisses me off when these “minorities” are spoon-fed everything and they still screw up. Give them the world and they’ll burn it down and turn the whole place into a ghetto warzone. Regardless of what anyone thinks, we aren’t all equal.
