How does the Hulk’s pants stay on? Err… uhh… nevermind.
Must be spandex.

I saw it a loved it. Still it is second to Dare Devil for me but it was great.
Patricia, I can’t hear you. I’m still sulking in the corner.
P.S. Punisher owns
Typical Ang Lee flick. In other words, great. On all levels. This movie will be good for fans of the comic book as well as those who haven’t read the comic books.
And CGI? What CGI? That Hulk looked as close to real as they could possibly get. Listen, we all KNOW the Hulk would be in CGI, so no surprises there. It’s in the context of the movie that I wanted to see how this would work. And it worked fantastically. The scene where Big Green spots Betty in the helicopter? Check out that facial expression. My god. They nailed it. How his shoulders slump as he drops the pipe. Wow. Perfect. The dog fight was amazing. Hulk taking on the tanks was incredible.
However that, I was emotionally attached to the main characters. While Spider-Man was fun, Daredevil dark, and X2 unbelievably exciting: “Hulk” has more human attachment. It was an exploration of the dark side of human nature and of relationships; be it family or otherwise. Ang Lee set out to make something different than just a comic book movie, and he succeeded. Does this man have no boundaries to his talent?
I loved how he made the scenes resemble a comic book page. I loved the opening sequences. I never once seperated Eric Bana’s Bruce Banner from the Hulk. He was that good. The transformation of Bruce into the Hulk is certainly incredible; but it’s the transformation of the Hulk back to Banner that left my jaw on the floor.
Kudos in the end have to go to the two men responsible for the Hulk: ILM art directors, Wilson Tang and Jules Mann. Man, with all the talk about WETA and LoTR, ILM had alot to do to show that they are da bomb when it came to digital effects. They may have done it here.
Hey, there’s gonna be alot of talk about the CGI, no getting around that. But be sure, this is a smart movie. A good movie. The excellent CGI is just icing on the cake.
I agree Patricia, the deep emotional element was almost upsetting at times. Towards the end when he sees the Hulk in the mirror, that really disturbed me. Great movie! It’s been getting a lot of flack from fans of the TV series which kinda pisses me off since this representation was absolutely the Hulk from the comic books. My favortie scene was the dog fight, wow! When that tree branch falls down it looked real!
I find it disapointing that the used CGI for the hulk. O well…
Didn’t Lou Lou Ferrigno have a guest apearance? I know I heard he was going to.
Lou was in there. He is a security guard that walks out in the first scene at the lab. I saw him come out and would have expected some response from the audience, but I don’t think many people recognized him.
Gimme a break! The Hulk is larger than life. The only reason the TV series used a man is because they didn’t have a better option.
I thought the start of the movie kind of slow, but overall I enjoyed it alot.
what?
if it is worse than daredevil it must be the shitest movie ever! fuck that sucked.
Bana would kick Affleck’s ass any day too…
Danceinstructor- that other guard talking to him is Stan Lee. I thought that was funny, they come walking out right in front of everybody plain as day and most people didn’t know who they were.
The movie seemed a little long in places, but that may have been affected by the full 30 minutes of commercials and trailers we had to go through first.
I also thought the final confrontation between father and son was too generally explained.
Everything Patricia said holds through, though; it was a great movie.
JARED NFS: 30 minutes of ads? Oh my! Hope they were good! In which country/state do you live? Does it affect ticket prices, like in some countries (i.e. the longer the ads, the smaller the ticket price)? Thanks!
Went in a skeptic, came out a fan…
Killer CGI stuff, and the way the cinematography was displayed made it feel like a comic book, the way they used split screens and PIP. Very good stuff.
And who can’t relate to the shuddering rage the HULK goes through?
Can’t wait to see the next one…
DAN C - there were 30 minutes of ads and trailers. There were about 4 or 5 commercials, not even considering the ads for the theater itself, and then 7 trailers, I believe. It’s kind of funny, but that theater just bumped ticket prices (by $0.50, but still a bump) and increased their pre-movie ads.
I’m such a chump. I really should boycott movie theaters with the way I feel, but I keep going back. I hate just about everything about going to see a movie. The entire experience is often one big inconvenience. With the ability of the common person to set up a near movie theater quality living room, I really wish they’d look into PPV first run movies. I’ve also thought that there would be a market for theaters that coddled their guests more, but oh well.
And that’s where my problems lie - them damn theater ads.
It’s amazing to hear people say a movie like “The Two Towers” is “too long” - when it’s not the movie itself, it’s the 30-minutes of crap ads and trailers you have to sit through before the movie even begins.
Not to mention all the idiots who treat the theater like it’s their living room and talk through the ads, trailers and then the movie itself.
Cant add more than what was already said (Pat resumed it best) except one thing: if that indeed is Ferrigno with Stan Lee at the beginning, he heeeoooooge. The short appearance left me under the impression he was bigger than when he did the TV series. But, heck, it
s something like 2 seconds film-time.
As for the theater ads…is this like in Europe, where you have the option of paying more and seeing less ads, or the reverse? If it is indeed 30 minutes, one can always take turns with the significant one or friends to go to the john, go buy back some stuff and/or warn seriously those pesky teens (theyre usually big mouths that won
t shut up until threatened…) in the meantime.
Until people get to behave, the best would be to have projection rooms with crowd ratings (mature, outspoken, noisy teens, brat) levels. You pick your crowd, and you get the right to kick intruders to the next noisier level. Oh well, one can dream… ;0)
God bless you Patricia. I had to put up with that through the hulk. Idon’t know why people bring small, I mean under 5 year old kids to movies like the hulk. I think I’ll totally flip if I have to deal with that bs during T3.
DanC, That was Lou and yes he did look huge and even more defined than he had before. I thought he would be old and kicking by now but he’s still an animal.
Lou plays head of security in the movie. You forgetting he’s 6’5 or so?
