Does this also mean the phrase “strong as a retard” is out too?
That is a personal favorite of mine.

This pisses me off that they want to replace the current terminology with this, because this statement is suggesting that mentally disabled people are intellectually on par with me. No, they are not, if they were, we wouldn’t need a special phrase or way of identifying and referring to them.
While I agree, keep in mind I made that phrase up dude. I forget what they really want to put in there.
Although I hope no one is reading this that has any influence because you might find that phrase in your vernacular soon.
I didn’t know you made it up, but my statement still holds as I’ve seen it myself where there are situations in which the difference between intellectually healthy, and mentally challenged people is downplayed. When I graduated high school, I received an Ontario Secondary School diploma, or OSSD, the mentally challenged kids in our school, who graduated with a different type of diploma due to their disability, I can’t remember what it was called but it was like an Ontario Secondary School Certificate or something, basically it was really similar in an attempt to make them feel like they’re just like anyone else. To anyone who is going to quote me and say I’m hating on mentally challenged people or some shit; I’m not, I’m simply pointing out how RETARDED (OMG!) it is for my study of calculus, physics, math, literary analysis etc to be compared to the identifying of shapes, colouring, and napping of kids in special needs programs.
PS. FWIW, the special needs kids at my high school routinely hung out with my group of friends in the hall during lunch as at my school there was no “special kids pen” or “area”, they would just integrate with everyone, and when there was more than 1 present they would often call each other “retards” just like me and my friends due to each other when they do something dumb and it didn’t seem to bother them at all.
I used to know a retarded boy. This kid was so cool, he once called ME retarded!

I have an aunt that is the mental equivalent of a six year old. She is the kindest, most loving person you will ever meet. I have personally seen the hurt this word causes her and gotten in many fights when I was younger because of it.
Do you really mean that you don’t care if you hurt someone helpless so that you can use a word?
I think everyone should have a developmentally challenged person in their life, they can teach you a lot about how to treat people.
Fact is, (and I don’t mean to be insulting) they could have made your aunt feel like shit in a variety of ways that don’t involved actually using the word “retard”.
It’s not the word so much that’s doing it, it’s the fact that kids are shitty. And the helpless will always be hurt in one way or another. Banning words leading to this Newspeak manner of talking is not going to solve cruelty.
I am not hating on the disabled, but the word retard no longer means what it used to, and it no longer refers to the people that it used to.
The special olympics is losing the little bit of credibility that it had by mounting this ridiculous campaign. Hopefully this whiny little rant about how bad the “R-word” is never takes off.

You should see the retards i have to deal with regarding the kids signing up to get their free trophy.
Here’s teh email from this retarded lady…all names have been changd to protect the stoopid:
Hello, I just want to make sure Jenny and Kristin are on coach ricks team. This is for U-10 soccer. Jenny is not ready for older kids group yet.
Here’s what I wrote back:
Retard,
I hope you take this the best possible way. I know Jenny has been with us
for awhile and we appreciate having you in the soccer program. We definately
would love to have Jenny for many years to come. I have a daughter that is
Jenny 's age that played last season, so I can really sympathize with your
concern.
When setting up leagues we have made exceptions in the past if the child
was going to be turning 10 during the season, but we have made it a policy to
not push kids down to the U10 level if they are well into the 10 year old range.
In your child’s case, that is 10.6 years old.
Since the U10 is comprised of 7, 8 and 9 year olds, the U12 commish, U10
commish and myself all agree that there must be a cutoff. It is only fair to
the 7 year olds for this to be the case.
Having said that, Jenny has been placed on Dirk's team. In
my opinion he is the best coach at the club. He has been coaching with us for
many, many years. He has a daughter on his team, and she too was very small
for her age. So, I know that he will take very good care of Jenny and she will
have a great experience playing on his team.
Sincerely,
Sen Say
Retard’s reply:
She won?t play unless it?s with coach rick and if she doesn?t know anybody then she will be no good. Is Nancy on that team? How long has Dirk been coaching? How long have the other players been playing? I don?t want her on a new team. She always gets stuck with the new people and she is always the youngest.
I was told that Jenny could play U10 1 more time and I had already explained that to Jenny . She was okay with that. I?m not going to be the one to disappoint her. Someone else can tell her.
Retard’s reply to my well spoken answer:
Retard,
Coach Dirk has been coaching for about 7 years. Like I said, he is regarded as the
best coach we have. He also coaches the U14 travel team. Believe me, he knows the
game and is a great coach. I can’t tell you how long each of his players have been
playing but he won the league last season and pretty much finishes in first or second
place every year. Of course wins or losses are not the reason we are out there. We are
out there to provide the kids with a positive experience.
If we allow you to play in the U10 league, we have to open it up to all 15 children that
are the same age or even younger than Jenny. Then we must consider every 13 year
old that comes into the club and demands to play with the U12 league, or every 8 year
old that wants to play in the U7 league. We have age groups (like every sport) for
reasons of fairness and safety.
Please understand that we are not turning Jenny away. We are just asking you to play
with Jenny 's appropriate age group. We can’t put every child in the exact place that
their parent wants them. We have about 200 kids on 16 teams. I’m sorry that you
have had to switch teams in the past and we will make every effort to keep you on the
same team from now on.
Please call anytime and I will be happy to talk. My number is XXX-YYY-XXXX.
If you would rather talk to someone else, X (U10 League Coordinator),
Y (U12 League Coordinator) or the Clubss Executive Director, G
are all in the CC line.
I hope you can try and understand our position. Believe me, it is not meant to be
a personal attack on you or to push you out of the soccer program.
And finally:
Jenny wants to see who is on her team prior to starting soccer practice and then she will make her decision if she wants to stay or leave. Forward this to Dirk please. And by the way she is only 10 yrs and 4 months not 10 and 6 months. All of those U 12 kids are going to be huge compared to her because she looks like a 3rd grader. If you could only imagine her fear and anger that I have to deal with.
Man sensay, you’re still drunk huh?
Fuck man, best to you. I hate that feeling of two-day drunk.

It sucks…I should probably go home. I had to meet with my boss and I was honestly contemplating telling him I was still drunk.
Fucking gin will fuck you up !
I’m going to McDonalds.
Maybe Burger King.
I really need to get a size 4 soccer ball also.

I spent a year of my life taking care of tards and handies. I also have a tard nephew. I call them what they are…and they even call themselves retarded. Anyway that doesn’t mean they are any less than non-tards. The word retard stays - it defines reality and helps everyone to know exactly what the problem is without trying to couch the problem in retarded alternative phrases. It also serves as a generally useful insult word - and there are plenty of times when it is appropriate.
So let me get this straight:
Eddie Barbanell is an actor, who is retarded, who appeared in a film which is based around the concept that retardation is funny. It’s funny because it takes the piss out of retarded people.
And now he’s trying to say that the use of the word retard is hurtful and that making light of retardation is not a laughing matter.
And he’s supposed to be at the forefront of the campaign? Are you having a fucking laugh like??
I’m guessing Michael Richards and Imus would’ve agreed. Words are just words.
If you don’t like the word “retard” then don’t hang around with people who use it.
Holy shit! Sen just went full retard!
