Daredevil season 1 was a cinematic masterpiece. Acting, fight scenes, music, Vincent fucking D’Onofrio decapitating people with car doors. It is worth the watch. The fact that the punisher was my favorite part of season 2 is a testament to how inadequate the character development was. I doubt you’ll do it anytime soon, but if you ever get a hankering to rewatch any Netflix marvel shows, start with that.
Season 2 of Daredevil didn’t do much for me, but Season 3 was absolutely fantastic. Massive fan of the character development seen there, and the new villain (don’t want to say the name and spoil it) was great!
Not working with others is easy. When I jumped into the trade I’m in now, which is inundated with guys who have 30+ years on the job and are on the verge of retirement, I had to swallow my pride and constantly admit how little I knew. With the exception of the Marines, nowhere will you find more disgruntled, unapproachable assholes than in a trade job, and yet everyone I’ve interacted with has showed me anything I want to learn.
If you go into this job, or any job, as someone fresh out of grade school who thinks their problem is that they are too quick for everyone else, everyone is going to hate you. For good reason, too. Theoretical knowledge is easy to get. Being on the job - whatever job you’re in - and having shit go completely sideways on your first day/night by yourself, and making mistakes - that’s how you begin to gain true experience. You have no experience whatsoever right now, so assuming that you won’t work well with others is only hurting you.
I’ve noticed something similar when starting a trade too, especially as an older apprentice. Ask and almost every tradie will take time to give you a comprehensive answer. Don’t ask and they’ll give you absolutely nothing.
paradoxically, despite having been told by every teacher i’ve dealt with so far that i have far more knowledge and capabilities than most of the other students my age, and more than enough for a company to consider hiring me and teaching me the job, i feel pretty insecure about my skills. so it’s not like i’d ever go in an act like i know it all, because i’m aware that i don’t
i think my issue is more with attitude towards people in general
On the FB page for the strongman comp I’ve entered there are a lot of people kicking off about people who have won previous novice comps entering novice/prospect, as well as those who have been doing novice since 2016 and all that jazz.
I presume this is utterly endemic in every novice category but by God I am loving the drama.
Be a great excuse if I come dead last, anyway.
There should be a question on the entry form: In your training, were you able to add weight to your lifts every session?
Yes? Proceed
No? You are an intermediate lifter, here are some contest you might be interested in.
I’ll expand what I said here:
Let’s assume there is a talent scale of 1-10. 1 being Forrest Gump and 10 being Elon Musk. Then, let’s remove the four outliers (1,2 and 9,10), because they wouldn’t be hired, or are geniuses and wouldn’t be in this position.
Now, we are talking about an entry level/lower position that works in a team.
Scenario 1
A team consisting of: (3) 4’s, (4) 5’s and (3) 6’s. The team works well together, is efficient, minimal interpersonal issues and people generally look forward to their job.
Scenario 2
A team consisting of: (3) 4’s, (3) 5’s, (3) 6’s and (1) 8. The 8 performs very well, but doesn’t work as a team. The teams output suffers because communication breaks down. The 8 takes over projects because he can do it better/quicker. There are lots of interpersonal issues and employees begin disliking their job. In this scenario, I put the 8 on active coaching. If it doesn’t improve, I tell him he’s not right for this team. If there is a lateral position I can offer, I will. Otherwise, he’s gone.
Scenario 3:
A team consisting of: (3) 4’s, (3) 5’s, (3) 6’s and (1) 8. In this scenario the 8 is a team player and increases output, coaches his/her team and makes the team improve. This is the scenario that everyone in the thread has encouraged Samul to be. It requires you to be humble, nice, friendly and get along with a team.
It’s also how I assume your team was when you had your business. The reason I ‘completely disagreed’ with your statement is because it was a blanket statement about talent. Talent isn’t much use if it can’t work as a team… in a team situation (which is what we are talking about). Also, why I said “Depending on the industry/position, team efficiency is more important than individual efficiency”
Because as @dt79 pointed out:
I’m surprised this even needs to be explained.
That took awhile…
Probably didn’t, my insecurity made me think it did and my ego made me hit post.
Very important lesson for those that are entering the workplace.
I was in a meeting and referred to our admin assistant as a secretary, she didn’t correct me, but the rest of the team did. Who knew secretary was such a derogatory term?
Everyone who doesn’t possess toxic masculinity.
We call ours an Office Manager. It’s a step up from Admin, as she apparently manages all of us.
Although, in an office I just opened, we have a male recent college grad. He couldn’t care less what I call him.
Ours are executive assistants and you’d better get it right per my former boss.
You just described my dealings with unreasonably strict, controlling teachers in high school!
I haven’t been to the local gym in quite a while, combination of totally babying a bad shoulder and doing training at home, but I went yesterday and saw they got a ton of new equipment, for the new year I’m guessing.
Reverse hyper machine, plate-loaded hip thrust, landmine unit, two new power cages (one might have a monolift attachment, couldn’t get close enough to tell), deadlift platform, I spotted a Duffalo bar racked on the seated military press station (WTF), I think they added another leg press, and a couple of other things I couldn’t keep track of.
Confession here being, I absolutely cannot figure out or remember what they got rid of to make room for it all. Everything just fits like it’s been there the whole time. I think they might’ve gotten rid of one Smith machine, but I seriously can’t remember for sure. Either I’m getting too old or it’s just been too long since I was there. Or both.
I think toxic masculinity is a great name for a band
I try have eggs most mornings. I always put Sriracha sauce on them - which I keep in the fridge (ie. In the correct place).
The Sriracha is next to the Hershey’s chocolate sauce. Part of me wants to try Hershey’s eggs but my wife is always up and I know I’ll be judged.
Not that my opinion matters , But with all the garbage you see on sites like You Tube I feel that
Juggernaut Training Systems has damn good info…
