Oh I agree … Are younger member is worried about the USApl getting killed over it. So I am just trying to put things in prospective to help ease his worry.
Whenever I push something too hard with my shoulder and feel it, I then do a bunch of rehab type exercises to account for it. Then when it’s sore the next day, I can blame it on doing too many rehab exercises, and not the actual lifting. I am that stupid.
And also, how the fuck is Greenland not a country? At least I learned something catching up with this thread.
My confession is the neurotype programs.
Oh my god the neurotype programs.
…what is wrong with you people?
I thought the idea was pretty interesting, albeit a little silly when he first wrote about them. But the amount of stress it’s causing people is wild.
I made a post way back about how CTs forum would be ruined by it, even Ms. Cleo could have gotten that one right.
Edit: Full disclosure, I did ask him a question regarding how he’d adjust a program based on someones type. Flame free.
My second confession will be that I’ve never even looked into it to be able to understand what I’m ridiculing. My very basic understanding is that there are certain programs you’ll be more compliant with because they suit your personality, and if that IS the case, I can’t fathom why someone needs to be told by someone ELSE what program they’ll be more compliant with.
I know 5/3/1 works, and there are certain programs in it that resonate with me, and others that don’t. I read the Deep Water book and was instantly hooked. Same with Super Squats. RTS? DUP? Neither one draws me in. Somehow I figured that out on my own.
People have to be told to drink water…
Yeah, you just summed it up without all the sciencey stuff that hooks them. Amazing marketing move IMO.
Which neurotype would you like to hear the answer from?
I dunno if I wanna go down that road. I hear people talking about their neurotypes and I end up having flashbacks about Battleship.
I gotta confess. I bought a neurotype program but I haven’t done it yet lol.
I think the internet is good and bad. I think the sheer volume of information out there for a lot of people (even myself in the beginning) makes you question everything.
But it still goes back to belief. A shitty program that you believe in 100% and bust ass in is going to give MUCH better results than running the best program that you don’t really believe in so you half ass.
The neurotyping seems cool, but to me its just logic. You are going to have the most success with the program you like the most lol. Doesn’t seem that ground breaking to me.
What would be ground breaking is getting a DNA test type thing and that telling you what “program” will optimize your genetics lol. Something that plans out the next 5 years of your training including lifting, running, etc. NOW THAT is something I’d pay for lol.
It’s not really about the programs. It’s the fact that people are taking the test and going,“Wow. I’ve been doing the type of training I like for 10 years and now I finally realize it’s not what I really like!” Wtf is this? Battered meathead syndrome?
You see this comedy so much.
“Hey guys, I’ve been running this program for a while now, and it’s been working REALLY well. What’s another program like it?”
“Why not just keep running that program, since it works so well?”
“Please stop trolling my topic”
But is it optimal?
What? The notion of the influx of guys using the reason they can’t deadlift over 225 lbs is because they can’t find a approach that fits their type doesn’t appeal to you?
That’s my favorite.
I can think of several things but it’s not pc
Now I understand why most successful lifters basically do the same program for 80% of their lifting career. If it’s working, why stop?!?!
I was in a doctor’s office earlier and counted 3 different signs that urine shouldn’t be put down the sink. True story.
I think there’s a lot of value in trying different programs to learn different things and see how they work for you, but that’s the thing: you have to actually try the program. I’ve stolen a lot from 5/3/1, Deep Water, DoggCrapp, Westside, etc to make my own frankenprograms, and it’s because I ran those programs in whole and found out what parts of them I respond well to.
But meanwhile, people will be like “Oh man, I can’t wait to run Deep Water! …but I’m not really great at deadlifts, so I’m gonna use a trap bar instead. And also, squatting can bug my knees a bit, so I’m front squatting. And I’m gonna use 5/3/1 for the benching, because I know I respond better to that. Also, I don’t know how to do any Olympic lifts, so I scrapped all those and I’ll just throw right crosses on the heavy bag, since those are explosive. Also, I’m a little too fat for the diet, so I’m gonna run a slight caloric deficit. DEEP WATER!”
And then they wonder why they got the same results on this “brand new program” that they got with the rest of their training.
