Those things suck so bad. I literally can not beat them in melee combat with my warrior. They do that stupid steam attack and it kills me in one hit. I have to run away and shoot them with arrows with my level 25 bow skill. Shit takes like 20 minutes.

I hear ya. With my mage, I would conjure up a Frost Atronach to keep it busy will getting some good shots off. But when youre a mage, those steam shots will take you down quickly.

I have to say the one big downside I can see with playing an assassin character is you really don’t get to see the special attacks of alot of creatures. =P

Ahaha welcome back to the RL. I hope you guys don’t have pets to feed… or kids. :open_mouth:

But I agree on the character building… I’m way too fucking OCD with that kinda shit. Too much customisation and I go nuts.
We have cats but there’s no way of ignoring them when they’re hungry!

What I’ve noticed by playing side by side with her is how different our games are. I’ve gone the Khajiit assassin type character and she’s gone a more generalised magic, sword and board, type character and combat wise they’re absolutely miles apart. She Leroys’s everywhere while I stealth my way through places ignoring/killing at whim.

Also…at about 20 hours in we were still remarking at how different our exploratory choices were. She was doing storylines I hadn’t seen yet and vice versa.

Fantastic game it has to be said. Quite a few times I said “ah I think I’ll give the questing a pause and level up my smithing” so off I’d go to hunt down some deer.

2 hours later I’d come back with giant’s toes and dragon bones and it was like I’d never left!! Great stuff.

That would actually be quite interesting to partake in. Side-by-side immersive gaming. I need to fix my PC or download a mac version. Haven’t Skyrim’ed in 2 weeks!
It’s a bit unusual for us as we usually play the same games coop or MMO-wise. :stuck_out_tongue:

2 weeks?!! Get to eet!!

Holy shit! Ahahaha… For a good 20seconds I was wondering why the fuck you posted that vid.

Bitch fest incoming. I put more hours than I would like to admit into it, essentially…been there, done that.

The game is shallow. Really, really shallow. There is ZERO choice, calling it an RPG is a stretch.
You can’t even turn down quests and I can count the number of quests that give you more than one outcome without having to take my socks off. Most of your “dialogue” options include, “Herp derp, Okai”. The writing is just bad. I’m not one of those creative types but I know good story-telling when I see it. This ain’t it. I finished the main quest a few weeks back and honestly can only recall a little bit about why I was going some places.

I compare that to Dragon Age: Origins (one of my all-time favorites) and I can STILL tell you a lot about the story because it was so much better done.

Also, my game locked up once my save reached a certain size, I no longer could zone past 16mb on the 360. So…yeah…fun times.

Couple that with the patches that broke more than they fixed for WEEKS after release and I’m going to have to think careful if I buy another game from them.

I absolutely believe the only reason it got such high marks is that the first part of the main quest is decent and the shine and prettiness doesn’t wear off until you get past the 100+ hour mark, which you really can’t do for a video game review.

That said, 100+ hours of entertainment out of a game with no multiplayer is a shitload and it was good value for the money, I don’t begrudge them for that. It should just be more, A LOT more when you compare it side-by-side with Oblivion that came out 6 years ago.

I’m looking forward to checking out Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

So it’s bad because you selectively don’t remember the story?

You can turn down a ton of quests(except the main story ones, shocker), and there’s definitely more than 10 ‘choices.’ The people that find it inferior to Oblivion are a vast minority(and I don’t meant people that have played it for 10 hours, I’m talking, the forums full of people that have dumped 250+ into it, have played 3-4 different characters worth, etc).

You’re also minimizing the entire point of the sandbox type RPG. Not to excuse what is yes, a somewhat shallow story compared to a game like Witcher(and Witcher 2), but the character development and open exploration are clearly the central points of the game, and they are incredibly well done, with a ton of depth.

DA:O’s story is a joke btw, I can’t believe you’re putting it on some pedestal(I’d give you the credit that you were actually using it as an example of a not that impressive story to further minimize Skyrim’s, except the rest of your post makes me not want to give said credit).

I’ll definitely agree with this. Bethesda games are always glitch/bug-fests. However, I’ll never stop buying their games :stuck_out_tongue:

Shouting instead of ‘stealth rolling’ is my favorite pasttime. Alerting the whole dungeon/cave to your presence is always fun

PC/XBOX/PS3?

Cause I have had no problems to this point with the PS3 and I have put in about 60-70 hours easy.

I have to agree about the glitches being a Bethesda staple. I had several Fallout 3 restarts do to glitching over a quest. I still have not purchased Fallout: New Vegas because I heard the glitches were ridiculous. Now I will be waiting for a GOTY w/ the DLC and patches.

I am pleased at how bug free my Skyrim experience is. Only occasional lock ups and so far no quest lines have self terminated. My most common glitches are people auto spawning and flying around the screen when I walk into an area and goats where they shouldn’t be. Seriously, I have a lot of goats in my Skyrim game. I am sneaking around the East Empire Trading Company and I get run into by a goat. I walk through a city, oh look, a goat. Any path, anywhere, and its a goat. Oh, and random towns people just hang out in my “Breezehome” while Lydia sits in my bedroom and eats.

I just hold Bethesda to a different standard than RockStar or Bioware.

Robert A

YEAAAAHH!!

Lol, Robert. Your post reminded me of this. (Goat related)

haha hilarious!

Growing up, I was an FPS kid. I used to make fun of people who played everquest, ultima online, etc.

I bought this game for my girlfriend. I had no intention of playing it.

First night, she was too tired to even complete her character and handed me the control.

A week later I’m completely submerged. What’s happened to me? I’ve brain washed my kids to the point where they ASK me to play skyrim. I’m having dreams about it. I don’t know who I am any more.

In all seriousness, this game is awesome. Started out creating a mage like character (not on purpose, I didn’t even know what a mage was before I started playing). Didn’t like that, started over, now created a warrior like character. I’ve been focusing mainly on Archery and Sneak. Joined the companions. I run that shit now. Almost done with Dark Brotherhood (I think). After that I think I’ll finally travel up the mountain and speak with the Grey Beards.

The above paragraph would have made me laugh my ass off a month ago.

Well played, Skyrim. Well played.

I am done with my first character - just started a second. I like to RP my characters a bit so I don’t try to do everything on one - I think it’s more fun to try different playstyles. I supported Stormcloaks last time around but felt incredibly guilty about betraying the Jarl of Whiterun and killing all those guards. I tend to get quite emotionally invested in games and their characters. I’m going to go Empire this time. I won’t worry about trashing Windhelm, which is an armpit of a town, or killing that asshat of a general the Stormcloaks have. I felt pretty bad about the death of the legate last time.
I need to make a less moral character after that to do the thief and brotherhood quests.

Quest-wise, I found the game slightly disappointing. The environments are lovely, but the companions and mage quests are much shorter and shallower than even Oblivion (which itself was shorter than Morrowind). I loved the guild quests in Oblivion, which made up for a slightly weaker central plot. The Oblivion towns seemed to have a lot more going on, too. Skyrim’s a good game, but it’s not a 10/10 game as many of the magazines would have us believe. There have definitely been some shortcuts taken.

Regarding bugs, I’ve had my PC lock up a few times (F:NV locked me up a couple of times too so I put it down to the engine). I find that exiting and restarting the game every couple of hours helps. I have an older PC - dual core (but a fast dual core) with an Nvidia 9800 card and it copes with pretty much everything I throw at it but can sometimes get cranky, and I think that’s largely due to the fact I’m on XP so it doesn’t (and can’t) have as much RAM as newer, Win7 models.

There have been a few glitches - the quest to become Thane of Riften is a bit buggy if you’ve visited a certain location before and I had to use console commands to get it to work - something PS3/Xbox owners don’t have the luxury of doing. The Red Eagle quest will also keep popping up if you’ve already done it and find another Legend of the Red Eagle book. I’ve not seen to many visual glitches other than a levitating mammoth but found this on Youtube, which is made me laugh a lot.

^Ahahaha… That was one hell of a fighting technique… Just mind-fuck your enemies with physics-defying acrobatics until they give up and attack something else.

I’m gonna reroll and make my next character an acrobatic mind-boggler.
