LM- I went with an assassin type character, I pretty much just maxed out the sneaking stuff, along with some points in one handed, archery, and light armor. Having a lot of success with a shield, a dagger, a sword, and a bow (all on favorites). Bow sneak attacks take care of most regular guys, especially once you get it to 3x sneak damage from bowshot, and daggers get 15x damage from sneak if you unlock it, and gloves you get from the dark brotherhood make sneak attacks do 2x damage, so I’m doing 30x damage with dagger sneak attacks. An upgraded enchanted dagger can do a stupid amount of damage too.
At least, IMO, lockpicking isn’t worth putting points into unless you want to do a lot of pickpocketing. It just makes locks easier to pick for most of the point tree, and they’re not that hard to begin with, provided you just keep a lot of picks (and they’re cheap). I’ve picked every lock that i come across (besides breaking into buildings) in dungeons and on chests and the like, and have never even dropped below 40 picks without ever buying any since i started. A master lock (the hardest) usually only takes me like 6 picks to figure out now (lockpicking is around 60 now).
So i hate WhiteRun because i fucking NPC tells me to barge on one house and find evidence about the Battle-born making disappear one boy from Gray-mane and even my Thane status couldn’t protect me as i start slaughtering every Battle-born inside that house.
That made all the city try to rape me and i went back to my older save, which is 2 levels down and one LONG quest earlier.

I just bought this. That was a mistake. I have stayed up way too late the 2 nights I have had it. I also went and bought a bose system to compliment it. Impulsive? Absolutely. Worth it? Without a doubt.
I decided to go assassin build - wood elf. Trying to find a decent setup any suggestions?[/quote]
Make sure you use light armor - heavy stuff gets you caught alot from all the noise it makes. Get sneak and pick pocket up, and do the dark brotherhood stuff. It’ll get you the best daggers (steal one from Astril, get the other as a reward), best horse, and a fully decked out room to store your shit in. Wouldn’t bother with the picklock perks, just pick every pocket, and buy every picklock you see. The invisibility stone is in the South East just outside Riften. It’ll let you get the drop on just about anything once a day. By the time you max the sneak skill / perk tree it won’t matter what else you buy - there’s nothing you wont be able to sneak up on and one shot. Pick apart camps one dude at a time from the shadows. Pick pocket tree is fun though. Sneak up on people, steal there equiped stuff, and fight them naked if you want - or let them live because you’ve already got all their shit. Theives guild stuff is ok, but dark brotherhood is better. I’d do it first.
Seriously, I hate elves. They look alien and fugly and their voice is annoying. I hated them in Oblivion and I hate them now even more specially with the Thalmor and their freaking justicars attacking me everytime I do some exploring.
But then again, I dislike pretty much every class except Orcs and Nords…

How do you guys manage to play with Elves ?

Only Elves? even Lydia is ugly, they get better on the pc version as you can install the “better face” mods or whatever mod they call it.
Been there(different quest), even when it’s bad we stay with it.
Thane status does not really do all that much for you. Thieves Guild actually lets you get away with more.

Yup, they only let me go on one time, made me go back on 1h on gameplay, damn Jarl!
i feel dirty upping my blacksmithing through iron daggers and downing giants and mammoths using my bow and pot-shooting but that’s life and one day my warrior will be proud to exchange blows with those big mofos!

What character did everyone choose?
I choose imperial for a reason I can’t remember. Thinking I will be a dark elf or high elf and start another character when I get board. Going to be a sneaky-mage next go round.
Does the cat night vision work worth a sh*t or is useless?

I have a duel-wield heavy-armor Nord (first play-through), a stealth/magic imperial, and a Mace/Shield/Smoth Orc.
This game makes me feel ADD. I keep wanting to try different combinations.
I really wish the narrative flow was more like DA:0 or even Fallout:NV where taking certain paths closes down other paths… like you can only ever head a single guild, some guilds should be mutually exclusive, exe. Bethesda has always been pretty wary of forcing the player to make decisions that matter…

I’m on the same page as you, although I like Imperials too.
Why anyone would want to play as a Wood Elf is beyond me…

I dunno.
I am rocking a fully decked out Daedric armor now because there is no way that I am going to level up in traditional thief skills anymore.
If some undead bastard gets the drop on you, heavy armor is great. I thought I was dead, and lo and behold, I was not.
But then, my new armor is also a function of my desire to become as proficient in swordplay as I am with the whole death from the shadows shtick.
What makes this game so epic? I’m completely worried about being bored out of my fucking mind…Single player role playing games seem completely pointless, who do you compete against? what happens when you get to the end? is there an end? what makes you want to get better and better as a character? what drives you to keep playing in a world by yourself?
All serious questions, I don’t know what makes elder scrolls so successful…

Skyrim is more about exploration than “role playing” in the pencil and paper table top RPG sense. You are not getting the interplay with other people, as you stated. What it does is plop you in this really, REALLY big world and let you have at it. You can lose a couple hours walking around and getting side-tracked. Also, the game allows a lot of “what happens if I do this?” type of experimenting. If you remember the PC game “Mist” then I might say Skyrim is pretty close to Mist plus violence.
The down side is that Bethesda’s take on the Elder Scrolls does seem to make the “main quest” less enthralling than all the side quests/exploring. So on a certain level it is like the anti RPG. If I was trying to Role Play the whole “world ending do to Dragon’s/Oblivion gates/whatever” issues would mean that I wouldn’t give any of the side quests the time of day. If I am trying to avert the end of days than any of the side quest givers can take their lost items/missing people and shove 'em right up their asses. Instead I have something like 20 open quests and I am having a blast.
I like the plot of Fallout 3 much better than Skyrim for the record. The NPC’s seem more interesting as well. If actual decision making/simulated interplay is more of a goal though I think Bioware’s Mass Effect Series and the first Dragon Age are better examples.
Oh, and unless you are on PC and can mod the leveling system I would avoid giving Oblivion a go. It’s stock leveling is horrible.

We were exploring one of those Ancient Nord Ruins west of Solitude. This was full of Forsworn.
So I’m fighting two briarhearts and Lydia is taking care of the miscellaneous Forsworn, eventually I dispatched one and was preparing to Fus Ro Dah the other one to hell when Lydia jumps in right after I pressed the shout button and starts swinging it at the briarheart like a champ. Both of them fly the fuck out and I move in to kill the forsworn. After that I notice Lydia is not following me. After some search I find her floating in the river dead.
Since the was no way to throw her into a waterfall for a viking funeral I placed her in a flat rock in the river and let her keep the orc armor I made for her.

SOMEWHAT OF A SPOILER… Maybe?
If you’re doing the azura star mission, if you choose to bring the star to azura instead of nelacar at the end of the quest you get the “elven azura shrine tender mage person” as a companion. She is quite good IMO
