Protip: DO NOT EAT VAMPIRE DUST.
Turns you into a fucking vampire, and after you get to stage 4 it’s irreversible via a Shrine of Talos.
You then have to get a soul trap spell, a black gem, feed on a few people while they sleep and then get Falion in Morthal to do a ritual on you.
Annoying as hell, as a stage 4 vamp you cannot approach ANYONE in the game because they all freak out about you being a vamp, and attack you.
Ok, that didn’t do a full cure - you can only cure vampirism by becoming a werewolf as far as I can tell.
So, are you joining the Imperials or the Stormcloaks?
Good god am I ready to get this game (coming Tuesday). Screw kissing a weekend goodbye–I’m kissing next semester goodbye.
So, for you who have been playing a good bit, any race recommendations? Still mulling it over until I get the game.
Shoulda added: I love playing thief and wanted to be a caster/thief in this one with my first toon, so I figured Argonian is the way to go, although I’m also considering Breton…
RSGZ wrote:

If I had to choose, Id side with the cloaks. Mainly because they are described as using guerrilla warefare and my skills fit well with that. But right now I joined the Companions and am doing alot of missions for them. Btw, try to become a werewolf. It kicks ass. But fyi, there are 2 ways to become one. One way is through a mission in Falkreath(sp?). You will eventually come across a werewolf and if you are bitten by it, you will have no control on when you change. If you join and become one through the Companions, you can control when you do and there are also some perks to that as well that I cant remember.
Wife heads out into the first monster of a storm we had this year to slay a dragon (which means walking the dog, but you didn’t hear that from me) and before closing the door, strikes a heroic pose and goes “We shall meet again in Sovngarde, my love!”.
Don’t know what all those people in Sama have against marriage and long-term relationships…
She’s clocked more hours in Skyrim than I have, too.
And the HDR test 2 (from the improved shaders guy) improves the game’s graphics by 3 billion percent. Though occasionally, Nords with their pale skin will blind the fuck out of you if the sun comes in from an unlucky angle hahaha.

I will kill your Mage. I will kill your Mage family. I will kill your Mage friends. Mages don’t deserve to live. Mages are cowards who hide behind mystical fire and lightning.
Takes a man to approach your enemy, cut into him, and watch him die as you pull sword from his bleeding body.
You’re still cool, though. I hate your Mage.

Hey, at least his enemies see him coming.
Mine dont.
And I pull far to few bloody arrows from their bodies.

What strengths are you guys weapons at, and what are they?
I still have the Elven Warhammer, it’s at 111 damage.
Still Swinging the Mogul Bol mace. Damage is like 34? (36-ish, can’t remember)
I really need to find a better one handed weapon as I am now level 20 this mace inst cutting it.
Any Ideas?
I have made good strides in finding better armor though.
Have a full steal plate set and I am working on an Orc set.
I’m kind of late, but try this:
1- Get smithing to level 90 (Whiterun’s Warmaiden sells iron igots + leather straps = iron daggers until you run out of materials, wait 48 hours, stores restock, repeat). You can also level up enchanting while you’re at it (Run to the mage in Dragons Reach with all your iron daggers, buy all his filled soul gems and enchant the daggers with either Banish/Paralyse/Absorb (health, magicka, stamina). Then, you can proceed to sell the daggers for a profit and repeat. It’s not as tedious as it seems and you’ll level up in no time.
2- Get a deadra heart and craft a Deadric sword/war axe. I prefer the sword as it’s faster and gets critical bonus from the One handed skill tree. EDIT: If you don’t have a deadra heart, do the ‘‘Visit Azura shrine’’ quest. You should get 3 or 4.
3- That new weapon should already be stronger + faster than your mace.
4- Enchant weapon + gear. Level up enchanting (100 is best), pick 5x stronger enchantments and work your way up to Added Effect. You can now add 2 effects on the same item while enchanting. It has to be done at the same time though, you can’t come back later and add a second effect to an enchanted item. If you are 1 handed + mage like me: Disenchant at the enchanting table one of each item: Extra one hand damage, extra magicka, extra health, destruction magic cost reduction.
Enchanting time: Drink a potion of enchanting if you have one, or wear gear with +% to enchanting. If you don’t, it’s not really important, you’ll be so overpowered anyway.
Circlet: One handed damage + fortify destruction (about 25% reduction to destruction, + 45% damage output for one hand weapons).
Ring: Repeat.
Amulet: Repeat.
Gloves: I chose one handed damage and increase magicka (I think).
Boots: Increased magicka + resist (I think).
Weapon: Absorb health (20 points per hit) + frost damage. You can recharge the weapon using a filled soul gem.
Armor: I use Arch Mage robe (-% to cast all spells, +magicka, +100% magicka regen).
That gets you a character who will hit 200+ with a deadric sword (I think I’m at 230) and who can dual cast master spells like they’re nothing. Make sure you get the perk that staggers enemy when you dual cast, they won’t even get near you.
Hope this helps! Cheers!
You’re a credit to the human race.

Fantastic Post.
A couple suggestions:
Part A:
Do the Azura’s Star Quest. At the end take the option where you return to the elf, not the shrine. This will grant you The Black Star as opposed to Azura’s Star. You will have an unlimited use black soul(can trap people) gem. The dialogue states that it will only hold black(human) souls as opposed to white(animal)souls, but it hold any of them.
Part B:
Aquire the ability to do a “soul trap” enchantment. This means disenchanting a soul trap weapon. If you have that Mace you can break that down, if not buy something with soul trap. It doesn’t matter how much the weapon costs. Pay it. You are about to have a license to print money.
Buy an additional filled soul gem of a decent size if you don’t already have one.
Now enchant your best bow with the 1 second soul trap (gets more uses and with a bow you are either killing immediately or you bought yourself a fight where you have to switch weapons.) This gives you great incentive to get Sneak and Archery to a decent level and makes the 3X bonus damage from a bow great for any character.
Part A + Part B = You have a bow that will soul trap anything you kill with it and a soul gem that is re-useable and can trap anything. If you use the bow to kill something to small, just recharge the damn bow with it.
Now, you can fast travel to the sight of a bandit camp, sneak kill a bandit, get a “black” soul, and enchant at high power. If your archery is not levelled enough to one shot bandits add a decent poison to the mix. Again, go ahead and use store bought if you have to. Don’t feel bad running away after one kill. You are harvesting the souls like cattle.
Slap a black soul level enchantment on anything before selling it.
Buy the world.
Regards,
Robert A

I could explain, but you would need to level up your PUA lingo to around 70.

I liked High Elf early in the game: passive bonus +50 magicka, special skill is very fast magicka regen for a minute or so.
