But that’s exactly the point. From what I’ve read, other than the number of whip strikes, it was very accurate. To me, it wasn’t graphic to be gratuitous. Rather, it was shocking because it’s realistic.
Here’s how the prophet Yishayahu/ Isaiah described him in chapter 52:
“Just as many were astonished and appalled at you, My people, so His appearance was marred more than any man and His form [marred] more than the sons of men.”
