And yet he is one of the closest things you have to real news reporting.

Oh for crying out loud, I’ve watched his show a few times and he can certainly be incisive but “real news reporting?” C’mon, Mak, you’re too smart to say that.

You mean anyone who doesn’t share your and his liberal viewpoint are stupid.
Closest thing to doesn’t imply that it is.

Also, you can be as conservative as you want, but even you must realize Fox and NBC etc. (i.e. all sides of the spectrum) are heavily biased.

Fox News does not have real reporters. Their schedule is filled with right leaning political commentators and the odd liberal ‘guest’ they have so they can call themselves “fair and balanced.” The morning team, Cavuto, “The Five” (aka How the fuck do these guys have jobs), O’Reilly, Hannity and Greta. Together they form the most uncharismatic and stale line-up of pundits on TV. Even Glen Beck realised what a bunch of BS that channel was and bailed. In addition, 90% of the guests on Fox News programs are “political strategists.”

If you watched Fox News in 2008 you’d swear McCain had a chance to beat Obama. All their pundits think they have a grasp of what’s going on and like to use the term “American people” a lot. “The American people will not stand for this!” Really?

If you want to be well informed watch news from real reporters and journalists.

No, it’s not even close. It’s just a comedy show with a bright, sharp, witty, heavily biased funny guy who uses the news as his props. That’s all there is to it.
Jon Stewart is a genius because of his ability to uncloak the BS that is so prevalent in the news and made by people of power. He breaks down normally serious and mundane issues into comical bits. He doesn’t actually pretend to extensively cover all news just the interesting portions here and there. In other words, he doesn’t paint the whole picture, not necessarily because he “spins” the news but because he can’t cover the entire issue.

I wouldnt hold him to such high standards if people actually realized he was hosting a satire/comedy show. Most under 30s actually think he’s a “funny news reporter” instead of a “comedian who satirizes news”. Biiiiig difference. That’s the problem with satire–it takes a person with wit to understand it is satire.

Fuether I do actually hold newsmen to high standards–but everyone knows they disappoint.

yes he is a very funny guy - I watch the Daily Show occasionally over here - and he is a keen wit. But he is NOT a news reporter. He is a comedian with a central-left bias.

I think a lot of people ( no one on here) who watches him are the sort who think ‘all mainstream media is rubbish’ and ONLY THEY have noticed this and they are oh-so superior for it.

However, having said that, his take on the phone-hacking crisis in the UK last year was sheer gold.

McCain had a chance until he said ‘the fundamentals of the economy are sound’ and then the fundamentals went tits-up after he said that

EDIT: That’s not the actual quotation obviously. Paraphrased.

Yes, I know that. I am well aware of that. My point, however, is that many people under 30 here in the States do NOT understand the difference and they see him as a “funny news reporter” instead of what he is–a funny comedian with central-left bias. That has been my personal experience at any rate.

Yeah he is clearly not a journalist and separate from real news but he smokes people like Bill O’Reilly who actually claim to give you “no spin” news. Stewart doesn’t pretend to be ‘fair and balanced.’

While most regular posters here don’t watch the Daily Show, they do think that mainstream media is rubbish…

LMSM???

Look at all the idiots that think Beck , Limdick and the like are telling the truth

Just curious why people believe Jon Stewart’s narrative is any less relevant than the likes of a Chris Mathews or Bill O’Reilly? It’s not like these comedians of PMSNBC or FAUXNews have a better grasp of reality.

The worst crime is parading pinhead pundits around as authorities on subjects they don’t understand while foisting it as a relevant criticism of a particular situation.

All these people are spokesmen for the establishment and nothing more.

Stewart’s great. Clearly the tax laws need revision. But I really don’t hold Romney’s income or tax payment against him. He didn’t invent the tax code. And why are people demonizing his net worth? Smacks of jealousy. And 47% of Americans pay no income tax? That’s pathetic and embarassing. Get off your duffs, earn more money and pay your FAIR SHARE! Bunch of f’en free-loaders!

oh, and revise the tax code.
Would much easier if they stopped shipping the jobs to other countries.
