The Bro Science Thread

Maybe not bro science… but the worse your body leverages are for given major compound lift. The less volume and frequency you can get away with. Plus recovery time tends to increase.

@j4gga2 @RT_Nomad I totally agree with what you gents are saying. I think progressing on a handful of lifts over the long term, and doing whatever keeps you amused for the balance, is a pretty solid recipe.

Lets be honest program hoping is a big issue IMO. Especially once indviduals get out of the beginning stage when they were spoiled with quick and easy gains.

How much latitude do you give before you’re no longer sticking to the program?

You asking me specifically or the class?

Are you still progressing towards “your goal” or just pissing around doing whatever it is you want to do that day vs following your program.

I think that’s the cutoff for me.

When I catch myself justifying other tasks to skip gym days.

Having a “whatever I want to do day” somewhere in the rotation helps.

This might be bro science, but I have this unwritten rule that even if I feel shitty, or just don’t want to work out, I have to grab my bag and go to the gym and park. If it’s really a bad idea that day, I’ll know and go home, but if it’s just me being lazy, or bored with what I’ve been doing, I’ll go in because I’m already there.

I do that too! Love it

Well since im probably one one of the biggest 5/3/1 whores here. ( for the record it fits well with my own training principles)

Ill pretty much stay with the parameters of a given phase for a damn long time. Just making minor adjustments from time to time . Be it changing a assistants movent or adding a supplemental if im focusing in on a specific goal.

But im old and been at it for awhile so i have the patience to let the process take its course.

This is what I love about Wendler’s “I ain’t doing jack shit” template. Just do the main lift of the day and leave. Fifteen to twenty minutes and I am out.

I am going to add these to my next block, just so I can say I am doing Scott curls. I am also going to assume that by using Larry’s name in the exercise title, my arms are going to explode with new growth.

I’ve always felt kinda silly doing regular old no-name curls.

Sometimes when people would ask, I just throw Power in front of what ever Im doing.

:man_shrugging:t2: shrugs-> Power Shrugs!

Bulgarian works too.

Djent inter-facia arpeggio compound thrust ingenerate alternating overhead russian curls with oval kick drop sets to finish.

You should try them.

I kind of hate myself now. I’m staring at that word salad and actually trying to make it into a real exercise.

Are those the Power or Bulgarian variation?

Son of a bitch.

Ahh, the Bulgarian one replaces the Russian curl, the power one emphases the djent portion.

So is a Caucasian Hanging Snatch-Grip Power Shrug something like Larry Scott’s Snatch grip high pull?

Only if its the one from the Caucasus region, not the white kid from suburbia version.

I’m not sure how, but I think you managed to summarize the entire transatlantic slave trade into one exercise.
