The Bro Science Thread

Word of advice on those… use super strict form . And keep the weight low for awhile to allow yourself to develope shoulder mobility.

Here’s some conflicting bro science: I simultaneously think the best training style is the one you’re not currently doing and the path to results is just plugging away at a basic template over and over.

IMO, it is impossible to converse about conflicting “bro-science” unless we can agree upon a definition for bro-science.

I concede that bro-science like traditional science develops as information increases. So a bro-science belief in the 1970’s could be different than a bro-science belief of the 2000’s. This would not be a conflict.

I also believe that bro-science is not what anyone person or group of persons believes. It is a generally accepted belief of the science of bodybuilding or powerlifting that existed at any specific era.

While your definition is likely both more accurate and useful, and certainly has more thought behind it, my working definition, for this thread, has been:

“stuff I’m going to through out there as gospel, but won’t back up or support in any way.”

Definitely ,truth in that.

@Brant_Drake this thread is so good, I had to pop a picture in it so that we can promote it on Twitter. Thanks for starting the conversation! :raised_hands:

@RT_Nomad @bulldog9899 I’m not sure I ever really got the difference between a Scott curl and a preacher. What is it you like better?

For the most part, the two are used interchangeably.
I always understood that the preacher curl was done standing (as a preacher behind the podium) and the Scott curl was done seated.

I thought the preacher curl was done with your arms on the angled side of the pad, while the scott curl is the other direction so your arms are perpendicular to the ground on the flat side of the pad.

I’m impressed that you found a picture of me.

For clarification ( if your not aware or for those reading) scott curl was named after Larry Scott.

We had to do some serious digging to find it since you’re so modest.

Most definitely the best arms in the world while he was Mr Olympia. No one remotely close. Fullest muscle bellies of both triceps and biceps with shoulders and forearms to match

Most definitely 100%

Got it! Sounds like I’ve been doing Scott curls.

Back to bro science: I actually do believe 5-6 meals a day is a better diet for most.

I think:

  • It’s better for gut health than cramming a bunch of calories in at once
  • It gives you multiple protein peaks and troughs daily
  • It better establishes portion control (on both ends)
  • It can between manage blood sugar

Except the lazy asses like me so I stick to 4, but sometimes a shake on top of that

So I hate the preacher curl but I love the Scott curls :joy:

I have great success with 2. Just my take but… i try to look at most things through an evolutionary timetable / scale. The body is extremely adept at using what we give it to repair / rebuild, whether it’s omad or 9 meals a day; however, i do believe too many meals isn’t optimal as our pancreas and endocrine system likely get a little too overworked. Multiple insulin releases, etc.

That said… I’ve seen so many things fly in the face of accepted “science” over the years I know it’s best to see what works optimally form oneself.

New research has come out stating larger boluses are just as if not more effective than multiple feedings. But who knows. And post workout protein intake essentially has no upper limit.

Drink your post workout protein drink Before your workout.
