Should’ve been a Mr Olympia
My bro science: grunting enhances performance during heavy compound lifts, specifically squats and deadlift.
So my bro science approach is that anything I want available the next day should be taken at night to digest and be shuttled to the right places. So Creatine (on non-workout days), any passive things like milk thistle, superfood, curcummin, pine bark, etc.
In the morning I’ll alternate between half a cialis and l-arginine to increase blood flow, and take compounds I want to “use up” before I go to sleep. So b vitamins, any mood boosters, vitamin d (since sunlight creates it, morning makes sense to me). I also take zma in the morning because I get those vivid dreams and don’t feel like I slept when taking them at night.
fwiw, there’s pretty solid evidence that spreading out doses of vitamins and minerals is good
Which ones ?
That one’s actually backed up by science.
And swearing increases your pain tolerence.
Profanity Can Sometimes Be the Best Medicine, Increasing Pain Tolerance by ~33%.
definitely cathartic
Was that pull up vs curl comment made for me ?? Definitely putting words in my mouth. Not sure I have ever said do pull ups for arms.
I still stand by arms will grow if you do enough of everything else. You probably won’t win the Olympia but they will grow.
That’s some big arms for someone who doesn’t curl. But wait how can that be possible
It was, and I totally realize that.
However, to be fair:
with which I disagree.
I think we can agree on:
I think we’re in the same camp that presses and pulls are higher ROI exercises, and they will grow your entire body (arms included). Whether that’s “enough” is up to the individual and their goals, but I’ll concede it likely is in most cases. Where we (may) differ is I believe they will grow more from doing direct arm work than not.
But I also think I’m ruining the intent of this thread by actually defending my bro science.
Wellll… i mean i do a few sets just to cover my bases
BUT … i hate the damn thing’s
given the intent of this thread, I will conceed that absolutely no Bro’s are saying do more rows to get big arms. Now enough of this discussion we both need to do some more curls ![]()
Doing barbell rows with straps, very nearly takes the biceps involvement out of the movement for me. Post right biceps reattachment surgery (May), I didn’t do any direct curls for about 6 months. Yet I did do very heavy bent-over barbell rows as I trained for a show (November), doing no curls. I also, did no underhand pulldowns, chins, or rows.
We are all just not put together the same.
But for clarification most of my arm size comes from tricep work since i follow the 2/3 rule.
Thats Bro science right there. I am pretty sure in terms of anatomy we are all the same (baring any amputations). But I agree with your point. Any kind of row, deadlift or pulling movement seems to hit my forearms and biceps pretty good. Maybe one day I should actually try an isolation movement. LOL
Ok, I’ve got a random one. Not lifting related, but it falls under the bro science umbrella.
I was hanging out with a buddy of mine and his girlfriend and my girlfriend a while back. This is pre-streaming, so I’m flipping through channels as fast as possible to find something. The girlfriends complain that they have no time to actually see if they are interested in the shows I’m ignoring.
My buddy goes on a 10-minute rant about how men change the channels to recreate the flickering light of guarding a cave with a campfire and flint-tipped spear. Of course he was all into paleo eating.
There is no point to this other than I think it’s funny.
I added straps to completely remove forearm involvement doing rows. With forearm ache removed, I could concentrate on back contraction. Looking to work my back, not my forearms.
I probably should try that.
Agreed!
