I think back when I was barely in my teens, around 1962. Whenever I heard someone say, “How much can you lift?” I took it as how much weight can you lift over your head.
A boy in my neighborhood had a length of pipe that his dad cemented two normal size buckets of concrete on each end of the pipe (not a bar). I was told it was 60 some odd pounds in weight. In my early teens it was hard enough to get it up to my chest.
So, to this day, a portion of me equates true strength is getting heavy weight over your head.
