The Brexit Effect

The British Press:

Jim Hacker: Don’t tell me about the Press. I know exactly who reads the papers. The Daily Mirror is read by the people who think they run the country. The Guardian is read by people who think they ought to run the country. The Times is read by the people who actually do run the country. The Daily Mail is read by the wives of the people who run the country. The Financial Times is read by people who own the country. The Morning Star is read by people who think the country ought to be run by another country. The Daily Telegraph is read by the people who think it is.

Sir Humphrey: Prime Minister, what about the people who read The Sun?

Bernard Woolley: Sun readers don’t care who runs the country - as long as she’s got big tits.

Bulshxxt Brainwashing Company I wouldn’t believe anything they say!

Those shows were the best.
Most people over here - too dim or impatient to savor the cleverness, however.

This ignores the fact that Cameron won his majority on foot of promising a vote on our continued membership.

If it was so unimportant, that wouldn’t have disarmed UKIP so fully.

It’s the greatest political satire ever made. It nailed every aspect of British political dysfunction with aplomb.

“Spitting Image” was good too. What they did to Thatcher was superb!

Started thread in June 2016. Just like Britain its got staying power.

It’s the best kind of British political thriller. Unbearably complicated, endless amounts of pettifoggery, and a series of titles and names that could easily be found in the 17th century.

Please, my sides, I can’t.

Lmao.

Have you guys considered joint custody? Maybe Brexit Monday-Thursday and stay in Fri-Sun. You can split the holidays and after a few months rotate the days to make them more equal.

I feel like I keep giving you all these solutions.

You still have to consider the school year…it might be too rocky to travel schools every week so you could do summers on the continent with Dad, the school year with Mom.

@H_factor @Aragorn

I’d vote for you two.

Never thought I’d say this, but I’m cautiously optimistic that Boris has cracked it. I’ll need to read the thing in full but he has:

  • Removed the backstop and committed the EU to respecting UK customs
  • Removed a lot of the parts that would have legally entombed us.
  • Allowed for NI to receive the benefits of third country trade deals.

Now parliament can either accept this and look like he’s won, or reject it and look petty. We may FINALLY be in endgame.

The list of people who despise this deal are leading me to believe that it is the correct course of action. It doesn’t matter anyway. Optically, deal or no deal, Boris has just taken the front foot.

Given the starting point, Boris has done exceptionally well here. We may have a route out now that delivers on the referendum and doesn’t cause chaos.

Boris May have just secured his re-election.

I’m actually ebullient, chaps. There’s enough meat in this deal to actually have my jaded ass excited.

Fully agree.

Better deal than I expected.

If he gets it over the line then, like you say, we’ve got a few more years of Boris. A year ago, that would been my worst nightmare yet now, he may be the best man for the job. Every single one of those turds in Westminster is reprehensible but at least “BoJo” is getting things done. I hope I’m not speaking too soon anyway…

Ditto.

Completely. Lord Trimble is backing it, the CBI is backing it, the ERG is backing it, the Tory rebels and Labour leavers are backing it, Christ, even the Times and the BBC are having to give a grudging assent.

I swear, if those goons in Westminster bollocks this up, I’m heading to zone 1 with a shillelagh and cracking some knees.

Howe burnt the last deal in effigy and is (narrowly) backing this deal. Howe has been at this for 25 years and I was waiting on his analysis to be sure.

He’s a thumbs up, and that’s good enough for me.

Genuinely happy for you guys. I’m not near informed enough to know about all the pros and cons but it would be nice to get some closure on something the people decided on 400 years ago or whenever it was.

Keep us updated.
