haha, my work is sooo inflexible that i cant even go on the holiday which i saved and planned for this year. They are making things soo hard for everyone. To represent them in any sort of tournament i have to use my OWN entitled leave. I cant even swap shifts to get Sundays off as they have made them soo difficult to swap.

I find that recovery usually gets easier with every week. As you can see my training volume is high, but I feel that my body is adapting well.

so jealous of your Aussie lifestyle!

true about recovery - hoping to regain it now finals have finished

Bird, do you have another job besides a soccer player. It doesn’t seem like that would cover all the bills. Maybe im wrong?

That sux man. Sounds like a bunch of scrooges. Have you been there for long? Planning to stay there for much longer?

Hey caveman buddy. Yes recovery is very important…I have to remind myself to get some more sleep in and do some more mobility stuff aswell. Especially towards the end of the working week as birdy gets a bit tired.

LOL. If I relied on soccer as an income, I would be well below the poverty line. I work 35-40 hours a week matey.

yeah been there about 5 years and sorta planning on being there for the rest of my life but its the government trying to squeeze every penny and once of energy out of the working class nowadays. Im a civil servant and there has been major cutbacks.

Sunday, 21st May 2012.

Hey cage dwellers!
Well, Im going to take a leaf out of Dayne’s book, and try to be more specific with training. Im going to adjust a few things here and there until I get the recipe right. The first changes to occur is that Im moving legs to Monday night, and upper body to Thursday noon before team training. This will give me more time to fit in an extra skill session. Upper body session will be shortened to 40 minutes instead of the usual hour.

TRAINING

AM

Went for a kick in the park. I have realised that I have alot of work to get my skill level up. I want to get to the point where I feel naked if I dont have the ball at my feet. This level of competency is not going to happen over night… but it will happen.

PM

Leg at the gym.

Agile 8 etc.

Elevated back leg split squats
Ramped up to my working set
7 x 50kg
7 x 50kg
7 x 50kg
7 x 50kg
5 x 50kg

Single leg deadlifts
10 x bar
10 x 30kg

2 rounds of 20 steps walking lunges with 20kg dBs, followed by 10 reps of goblket squats using 35kg.

leg raises
3 sets of 10 (I think Im using my hip flexors/groin instead of my abs)

TRAINING

PM

Went to team soccer training. A “recovery session” for the league team was organised at the pool. God knows why we needed a recovery session 3 days after our game. If you need a recovery session 3 days after a game, then there is something wrong with you. Anyway I was running late from work, so I by-passed the pool and went straight to the ground where I trained with the reserve team. Was very low key and lacked intensity as usual, but I managed to get a few decent touches in and work up a bit of a sweat, which was well needed after a stressful day at work.
I then caught up with the league team who were having a meeting in the rooms. I told the coach I would prefer to play on the wing rather on the center, and he seemed to agree with me. Happy days!

DIET

8:00am: oats, 5 boiled eggs, short mach
10:00am: protein bar and some almonds
12:30pm: chilli chicken and fried rice, flat white coffee
2:30pm: more almonds

11:00pm: almonds and chocolate milk

TRAINING

PM

Went for a kick in the park. I have a head cold at the moment, so I took things easy. Did some dribbling in between cones, passing the ball against the wall etc. Usually I would finish off with some sprinting, but because Im not feeling the best at the moment I instead finished off with juggling the ball. Did some stretches and then went home. Not the best of sessions, but atleast I got to spend time with the ball.

DIET

8:30am: 5 boiled eggss, short mach.
10:00am: almonds, green tea.
12:30pm: chicken and cashew fried rice, apple, green tea.
3:30pm: pre-training short mach and pop-tart.
6:00pm: t-bone steak, spinach salad, V8 juice.
8:00pm: almonds, cheese and chocolate milk

Nice workout dude, but why are your bench weights going down?

Did you like the video? I love the fan culture of football. No other sport has such a religious fanatic support that creates that atmosphere. That video is tribute to the fans of the “melbourne knights”.

I was lifting less as I was doing 5 reps, while the week before I was doing 3 reps. I alternate between reps of 5 and reps of 3 every week. And I was feeling weak on that particular day. To be honest with you buddy, I dont think my numbers are going to go up anytime soon. As you can see I am doing more cardio and soccer specific work at the moment. Although I will always aim to progress.

Thank God its friday!!!

What a week it has been… new training program in place, bit of tension at work, moved into my new house, bought a slow cooker… And tonight I have to pack as I am flying back to the city tomorrow morning.

This weekends game is an away game, and most pundits are predicting that my team is going to lose, based on the fact that its an away game. The team we are playing are a middle of the table team. We are taking down a decent team, and I will be very dissapointed if we dont go home with a convincing win.

Beleive, fight, win.

TRAINING

AM

Went for a kick in the park. Was a good session. I got lost in the moment. I feel my touch coming back. I finished the session with 8 x 50m sprints, and 10 x 10m sprints with the ball.

PM

Went for a solo 20km bike ride. Would of liked to go longer but it was dark. Was a good spin anyway.

DIET

6:00am: pre-training coffee and pop-tart
8:30am: chocolate milk, 5 boiled eggs.
11:00am: chicken satay and fried rice
2:00pm: protein bar and a flat white
3:00pm: sweet chilli chicken wrap
5:30pm: pre-ride short mach and pop-tart
8:00pm: chicken curry and rice x 2! (I made this with my slow cooker, and since it was so nice I had 2 massive servings. Couldnt move for like an hour)
10:30pm: chocolate milk and a slice of cheese.

lol, I’m not actually a big fan of football to tell the truth, nor of religions of any kind. But I do understand about that kind of atmoshpere, it can be pretty crazy.

GAMEDAY

We got smashed. 6-0. Horrible day. We couldnt string 3 passes together. Our regular keeper couldnt play, as his back seized up during the trip down. Our captain had to come off with an achilles injury and our vice-captain was taken off due to a 6cm split in his forehead. 2 other players on the field struggled to get through the game due to asthm. Training really needs to be improved or this is not going to get any better…

Well, you have all been probably thinking where I have been?

On Tuesday I had sweet and sour chicken for lunch, and I beleive I got food poisoning from it. Serves me right for eating such crap anyway. Im pretty sure I got food poisoning from the same place about a year ago. Twice bitten, forever shy.

Anyway, for the past 2 days I have hardly eaten anything, been spewing my guts up, I feel like crap and have lost a lot of weight. This morning Im feeling better… so maybe tonight I will resume training.

semipro leauge players with asthma? how does that work?

Damn that game sounds brutal! Trouble with team sports is you depend so much on everyone working together at 100%.

Hope you’re feeling better now Birdbrah!

Sunday, 4th June 2012.

Hi bird lovers,

Well the last week has been a bit of disaster… 6-0 thrashing, food poisoning, no training. I had the weekend off and headed to the outback with the gf to rest and recover. Rest and recovery involved lots of wine, lots of food, and lots of late nights.

But now its time to forget the past and look foward. Tonight I did a very light session…

TRAINING

Went for a 20 minute jog in the park to get some sweat happening. Finished with some agile 8, and then walked home. Feeling better than I have in the past 7 days. Lets get this MOFO started!!!
