Like your new avi. She was a real bitch though. I was glad when McMurphy strangled her.

I think at 53 and new to lifting you will be able to make some amazing gains.
Big nurse (ratchet) was my whitbread race name back in the late 80s and came about after an incident aboard my boat when i wouldn’t let the guys watch tv (actually the microwave !) but you would have had to have been there.

Gains are happenning–just trying to go along without an injury.

Im impressed, the Whitbread is a historical race and is what the current Volvo Ocean race evolved from. I still race and my training is to this end. I love to watch the video footage of the early ocean races. An incredible adventure.

Jeez…the big red one.

My mate jaws crewed on steinlager 2. fast boat in it’s day and an absolute delight to see with everything flying.
We were pretty close to the crew on Fisher & Paykel as well, helped us out loads, still have lots of respect for dalts.

I drove an ex whitbread boat for a while and an early volvo 60, nothing like the current boats though.

You actually training for a volvo ??

What is your training like ?

What are you sailing at the moment ??

Hi BN, just dropping in to say good work and checking in on how the Indigo is working for you.
Going to write and post a 2 week summary at the end of this week. so far…good

Actually, I meant what are the ingredients in Indigo.

Here in the states, our equivalent sandwich is the peanut butter and jelly - PB&J.

Main ingredient is cyanidin-3-glucoside.
I did a general search on this before ordering and it is fascinating stuff, lots of effects but mainly reported as being a powerful anti carcinogen and anti inflammatory agent.

Oh–and there is also an australian version of marmite called vegimite–which is disgusting !

Week 2 .day 3
Still aiming to push the workload.

1.30 walk to gym.
Workout :
New warm up complex routine x 3 rounds.

Main work 1 , deadlift with chins as active rest.
So : dl sets.
132lbs 1 x 10
176 1 x 10
198 1 x 8
220 1 x 8 (new rep max at that weight)
Then.
242 1 x 6 (ditto)
252 1 x 5 (ditto)
264 1 x 5 (ditto)
242 1 x 6
252 1 x 6
275 1 x 3. (definite 3 rep max)

Feeling pretty confident so had a crack at a 3 plate new 1 rep max but couldn’t quite break it , so backed off :
220 1 x5
132 1 x 10 deload

Quite a lot of sets of chins in between !!.

Main work 2 bench with active rest , front kb raise.
BB warm up 10
66 lb 1 x 10
88 1 x 10
98 1 x 10
110 1 x 5
115 4 + 2
121 3 + 2
110 1 x 5
121 3 + 2
132 2.

Finishing work mainly stretching and foam rolling.
Protein shake and flapjack.

Walk home

You did a ton of reps prior to the 315 attempt. I bet you had a good shot at it if you were more conservative prior.

If you want to hit 315, give it a few more sessions of beating PRs in the 3-5 rep zone first to build up general strength. Then have a go. Keep form tight though. Nothing screws up progress faster than a back strain.

Git, i think you are right, i was simply out of gas and had been deliberately working at more weight with more reps. To me that is a lot more important at this stage.
Would have been nice but not unhappy about it either.

Annoying thing is that i took my camera with every intention of filming the sets…and the battery crapped out on me immediately !!. doh

You are making great progress. To be able to hit those weights at your bodyweight and with less than a year of experience shows you are doing things right.

Git–thanks. I would like to crack the 300lb barrier for christmas.

I hope your expectations are realistic. Back in Apr 2010, I was deadlifting around 250 as my max. I planned on entering the contest one year later, so I worked harder than ever before, hoping I could crack 315. In one year, I could only manage 275. It took about 6 mo more of really hard training to crack 300.

It requires tons of determination and patience for the long haul.

It’s a goal cav, dosen’t mean i will get there, but a good thing to work for all the same and i did pull 296 a few weeks back in ‘total anger mode’

300 is yours.

I think i am close but not quite.

I also think that it will need a different approach than my normal dl routine, perhaps just doing a few reps at each weight rather than full sets.

Need to do some more high weight (relative) set sessions and then give it another try.

Won’t get there unless i try it.

“Patience my young padawan apprentice” …obi-wan kenobi i think.

If you’ve already pulled 296 then 300 by Christmas will be a piece of piss.

I don’t think you’d even feel the difference between 296 and 300, especially if someone else loaded the bar. Sometimes just a couple of pounds and that round number barrier can create a mental block though.

I wish I could ‘pull in anger’. Did you use a technique to psyche yourself up or were you angry already?

My bosses boss seriously pissed me off after the end of a shitty shift and i totally ripped it up straight away over in the gym.

Looking forward to following your progress> I’m thinking of giving Indigo a try myself but the price is a bit steep. How many weeks is one bottle good for?

15 days. yep–that steep.

Going to post a report this weekend on thoughts from the first 2 weeks, having said that it’s hard to be objective when i have already ripped up my rep-maxes on squat and deadlift.

Short video clip from today.

Won’t link.
