The Abortion Thread II

Continuing the discussion from The Abortion Thread:

This is for those posters who claim that if you are pro-LIFE then I cannot care for babies after they are born. Nothing could be further from the truth, but that is why they call the attacks ad hominem.

"I recently came across a meme in my Facebook feed that depicted a sad, small, dirty child with a plastic spoon in his mouth. The tag read, “Imagine a world where ‘pro-life’ efforts included feeding hungry children.” The implication of course is that those who oppose abortion don’t care about feeding hungry children. This isn’t the first time I’ve encountered such sentiment, and I’m sure it won’t be the last, but it always manages to grieve me afresh—for two reasons. First, I can imagine the sort of smug moral satisfaction it provides to those trying to justify (or ignore) the violence of abortion. Second, it reminds me of our sad propensity to speak right past each other, on this issue and so many others.

"A wordier version of the same general opinion came to Abort73 a couple months back, via our online submission form. The author, a 20-something woman from Georgia, writes:

Pro-life conservatives are obsessed with the fetus from conception to nine months. After that, they don’t want to know about you. They don’t want to hear from you. No nothing. No neonatal care, no day care, no head start, no school lunch, no food stamps, no welfare, no nothing. If you’re pre-born, you’re fine; if you’re preschool, you’re [screwed]. Conservatives don’t give a crap about you until you reach “military age.” Then they think you are just fine. Just what they’ve been looking for. Conservatives want live babies so they can raise them to be dead soldiers.

"Reading that, the only conclusion I can draw is that this young woman doesn’t actually know any pro-life conservatives. If she did, she would never have come to such a jaded conclusion. Just think about her basic charge for a minute. We could sum it up this way: Pro-lifers don’t care about children. The only reason they oppose abortion is because it limits the number of soldiers they can send off to be killed in war. Even if you support legal abortion, you must see the absurdity of such a claim. In debate circles this is known as an ad hominem—attacking your opponent instead of attacking your opponent’s ideas.

"Not surprisingly, the Facebook meme and the diatribe from Georgia are both silent on the ethics of abortion. They don’t bother trying to justify a practice that fatally dismembers the most innocent and helpless members of the human community. Instead, they call into question the character of those who oppose this practice, which is a good way to argue when you’re defending something as indefensible as abortion. Of course, it’s much easier to malign the integrity of your ideological opponents when you don’t really know them, and easier still when you only engage them through the lens of a computer or mobile device.

"If you support abortion rights and suspect the worst of those across the ideological divide, here is what I would encourage. Spend some time thinking about motivation. Look for the angle. Ask yourself what causes average, everyday people to oppose abortion so strongly. Do you actually believe it’s because we enjoy sticking our noses into other people’s business or have an insatiable desire to “control” women?!

"Having been vocationally tied to this issue for almost 20 years, I can assure you that raising a fuss over abortion makes for a harder, lonelier, and less prosperous life. On this issue, there is nothing tangible to be gained by opposing the status quo. The same cannot be said for those on the other side. Many of them have amassed a vast personal fortune by peddling abortion; countless others have found a legal loophole that allows for the elimination of an inconvenient child. Both scenarios make it exceedingly difficult for the benefitting party to judge abortion objectively.

"Though I’ll be the first to admit that public pro-lifers have plenty of flaws, I will say this. Every pro-lifer I know cares about dying babies and hungry children. The reason is simple. It is only because we care so much about the lives of born children that we feel compelled to protect the lives of unborn children. You might say it this way. Those who oppose abortion care so much about children that they believe children should be protected before and after they’re born. If we wanted to, we could compose a host of poignant “Imagine” memes of our own. Here are a few off the top of my head:

Imagine a world where care for children included all children.
Imagine a world where the lives of all human beings were protected by law.
Imagine a world where nobody tried to justify the dismemberment of helpless unborn children.

"Memes, however, have limited cultural value. They tend to energize the base while alienating those they’re ostensibly trying to reach. It’s hard to reduce a robust condemnation of abortion to a sound bite. We have to go deeper to reach each other. Here’s what I mean. Those who oppose abortion cannot grasp how abortion advocates can be so cruel and calloused towards unborn babies. Our equation looks like this:

There are two groups of children. One group is threatened by death; the other is threatened by hunger. Which of the two groups faces the more serious and pressing threat? Which children have the stronger claim on our time and energy?

"On the other hard, those who support abortion cannot grasp how abortion opponents can be so cruel and calloused towards desperate women. Their equation looks like this:

There is one group of children and one group of unwanted embryos and fetuses. The children are threatened by hunger; the embryos and fetuses are threatening the livelihood of their mothers. Which of these two groups have the stronger claim on our time and energy?

"For those opposed to abortion, it’s ridiculous to argue that hungry children have a more pressing need than dying children. For those who support abortion, it’s equally ridiculous to compare human embryos and fetuses to born children. Abortion opponents see no qualitative difference between born children and unborn children. Abortion advocates see a HUGE qualitative difference. One group argues that there aren’t enough resources to take care of more children; the other group argues that the children are already here—and must be cared for with kindness and compassion.

“In other words, we are at an impasse, UNLESS it can be demonstrated that unborn human beings are just as qualified for legal protection as their older and more developed counterparts. Actually, that’s not quite true. I’ve placed the burden of proof on the wrong side. Unless it can be conclusively demonstrated that unborn human beings are qualitatively different from their older and more developed counterparts, there can be but one conclusion. Abortion is immoral and unjust. So long as any doubt or uncertainty exists regarding the status of human embryos and fetuses, abortion cannot be justified—no matter how many hungry children there are in the world.”

The above article was copied from here - The Abort73 Blog: Saving Babies or Feeding Children? - I would not want an excuse because someone has a desire to not pad a site counter as an excuse, hence my coping of the article. I know Michael and I are one hundred percent on the same page when discussing abortion, he is far more eloquent.

A heart-breaking story -

"Kansas family Ian and Brittani McIntire were heartbroken when doctors told them that one of their unborn twins probably will die before he is born.

"Baby Mason McIntire has a hole in his heart and an abnormal brain. But the family said they are clinging to the knowledge that Mason is not alone in the womb. His unborn twin sister, Madilyn, is there to comfort him.

"On Tuesday, the family shared with their local news station a heartbreaking ultrasound image of baby Mason’s tiny hand clinging onto his sister’s fingers.

"Brittani said the ultrasound tech told her that her twins’ interactions are unusually kind and gentle, as if they know that Mason may not live long. It could very well be true. Scientific studies have found that unborn babies feel emotions like joy, anger and sadness in the womb long before they are born.

"‘Most twins, when she’s trying to take pictures and stuff, they’re kicking each other and hitting each other, and she said with our twins it seems like [Madilyn] was very protective over him,’ the mother said.

“‘I know I’m holding him, I’m carrying him but I just want to be there for him,’ she continued. ‘And she’s the only one who can actually be there and holding onto him through it, so it’s comforting to know that if he does pass he won’t be alone.’

"The Hutchinson, Kansas family said they planned to stop having children after their two older daughters were born, but then they discovered they were pregnant with twins. The McIntires said they were surprised and happy to learn the unexpected news.

"Bad news came a few weeks later when doctors noticed that Mason was not growing at the same rate as Madilyn, according to the report. Doctors later discovered a hole in his heart and brain abnormalities, the report states.

“‘He’s only weighing nine ounces and his sister is over two pounds, so big size difference,’ Brittani said. ‘His only chance of survival would be heart surgery but they wouldn’t do heart surgery on him because of his brain.’

"The family said they are praying for healing for Mason, but they also are trusting God, no matter what happens.

“‘We know we have a piece of them together that will last forever and it’s special to have,’ Ian said.

“‘We’re still going to trust in God that no matter what, he’s been a blessing and if he makes it then it’s a huge testimony to what God can do,’ Brittany added. ‘And if he doesn’t then we have a special angel watching over us.’

“Ultrasounds frequently show unborn twins interacting and bonding, beginning at very early stages in the womb. But the touching ultrasound photo that captured the McIntire twins holding hands is a memory the family will treasure for a lifetime.”

This is yet another heart-wrenching story about a lady who was raped and the horrendous events that followed.

The story also proves to me why the men that rape women deserve to be strapped to an X cross and then kicked in their nuts by someone who plays soccer professionally. The rapist should be kicked until they throw up, then kicked three more times for good measure. To finish up, they would be castrated without anesthesia. A spray of iodine would be given so infection cannot set in and any blood vessels cauterized so the piece of garbage will not bleed to death. Women would be given a few Tylenol before the same procedure is applied to them. The bolded portion speaks to why the story is of particular importance.

He Raped Me And Said He’d Cut the Baby Out of My Stomach if I Got Pregnant. Then I Was Pregnant

Kaitlin Westbrook Feb 19, 2016

At the age of 19, I was a very happy, vibrant young woman, excited about what the future had in store for me. I was a freshman attending college in San Antonio, excited about meeting new people and swimming on the university’s swim team. However, I had no idea that my freshman year was going to be the worst year of my life.

October 8th is a day I will never forget. Someone who I thought was a really good friend at the time, came to visit me at college, with plans to hang out and go to dinner. What was supposed to be a pleasant evening turned into a nightmare. On this particular day, all of my friends who lived on the same dorm floor as me left to go to the college soccer game, including my RA – Resident Assistant. When everybody left, it was just me and my friend.

As he locked the door to my room and turned on the music loudly, I knew something was seriously wrong. At 6:15 pm, the man I thought I knew so well as a friend, revealed himself to be a monster. He brutally raped me in my dorm room, punching me in the head, throwing me into the bed post, choking me, and ultimately raping me with a knife pointed at my ribs. I screamed and screamed, but no one came, and he knew no one would be around.

He told me I was worthless, and threatened to kill me if I told anyone about his actions. He also told me he would rape other women and I wouldn’t be able to stop him, then saying these rapes would be my fault. On top of that, he told me that if I got pregnant, he would come and cut the baby out of me. Terrified, I didn’t report the crime. I believed his threats and I was afraid he would come back and kill me, because I’d already heard that there’s very little justice for rape victims, and I felt hopeless.

Just a few weeks later, on October 27th, I found out I was pregnant from the rape, and of course, I didn’t want anyone to know, for fear that the rapist would find out, then come after me to kill the baby, just as he’d threatened to do.

When I went to the doctor, I told him what had happened and the first words out of his mouth were, “It’s still early in the pregnancy, so you still have options.” Options?!!!

Having been adopted myself, I told the doctor I wanted to have the baby and place the baby for adoption. I felt a very close connection with my birthmom, being the same exact age she was when she had me, and I wanted my child to have a family like I had. The doctor didn’t even let me finish talking and said, “Who is going to want a rapist’s child? The child will always remind you of what you have been through. It’s still early enough to get an abortion.” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing! This is my child – a child of God. Despite his horrible attempts at fear-mongering, I stormed out of the doctor’s office and didn’t look back.

The way the doctor reacted threw me into years and years of silence. I thought, “What would people think if I told them I was raped and was going to give birth to this child? Would they blame me for what happened? Would they call my baby a ‘demon child’?” I thought that the only way to protect myself and my child was to not talk about it and pretend it didn’t happen. In fact, I never even disclosed the rape to the prospective adoptive parents, until just last year, out of fear that what the doctor said would be true – that they’d change their mind about wanting the baby.

I was very excited about this new life. I knew I could turn this terrible situation into a positive one by giving my baby up for adoption. I had already decided to ask one of my friend’s mom if she would be willing to adopt my baby because I was aware that she recently suffered a miscarriage. Sure enough, this couple did want to adopt my baby!

I felt so blessed that God would give me this sweet angel growing inside of me to help me heal. I have always considered my child to be my beauty from pain. Even though what happened was horrible, a sweet little baby was conceived.

About a month after learning I was pregnant, I suddenly began experiencing sharp pains and bleeding. Fear came over me that I might lose this baby – my light in the darkness. One of my friends rushed me to Urgent Care, and they informed me that I was in the process of miscarrying. This news was devastating and I was completely heart broken.

After that, I became more depressed and more distant from my friends. I didn’t tell any of my friends about my pregnancy or the miscarriage until two or three years later. Thoughts of hurting myself to end the pain engulfed me. I even called the rapist to scream at him, telling him that I’d become pregnant from the rape, and that the miscarriage was his fault. But all he did was blame me more, telling me I miscarried because I would be a bad mom. I felt empowered by having called him, because my voice was heard.

A week later, God saved me yet again. He sent me a message in a dream. In my dream, the Virgin Mary came down from Heaven holding a red-haired, blue-eyed baby boy. Mary said, “Katie, your child, Michael Jude is safe and loved. He is in the hands of God. He loves you dearly and so does God. Please know that your child is always watching over you, now and forever.” The dream gave me so much hope and I truly believe that my child has been with me this whole time. Michael has been with me through my panic attacks, flashbacks, nightmares, and constant emotional abuse from my rapist who stalked me for years.

I have PTSD and depression — not just from the rape, but from the miscarriage. I experienced two traumas that mashed together. I constantly have nightmares and panic attacks because of both traumas.

Being adopted myself, I take abortion very seriously. After going through this, I feel a very close connection to my birthmother. She could have aborted me, but instead she gave me the most beautiful gift — my life! I understand what it’s like to lose a child whether it’s through adoption or miscarriage.

I hate when people make the rape exception. Women are stronger and more resilient than society gives us credit — we don’t need to kill our children to be emotionally healthy. Just because I was raped doesn’t mean I can perpetrate violence upon another and take away a life. My child is a blessing and I honor him every day by speaking up and telling women abortion is not okay.

Honestly, if I had had an abortion, my healing process would have been very slow and even more difficult. Not only would I be having nightmares about the rape, but I would also be dealing with the guilt of the abortion. To help you understand even more – I want you to know that I would endure the rape all over again if I could hold my child alive and see that sweet face.

Even still, Michael Jude has bought me such healing. Last year was the first time I spoke up about the rape, pregnancy and miscarriage seven years ago. I reported the crime to the police last year, and I believe all of that was possible to do because of God and my sweet Michael.

On October 8, 2008 – the day I was raped, God stayed with me in that room and told me to hold on. He calmed me down and helped me survive. He saved my life on that horrid day and gave me a beautiful gift — my beloved son.

I have decided that every year on October 27th – the date my baby left this Earth, I will send a balloon into heaven with a note to Michael Jude. It warms my heart to know God is watching over my precious angel! I know I have a long journey towards healing, but as long as I have God’s love and my child watching over me, I can do anything!

I began to discuss the loss of my child with my therapist, and my desire to somehow connect with other women who had conceived out of rape. My therapist turned to her computer, searched the term, “conceived in rape,” and Rebecca Kiessling’s story popped up, with a link to Save the 1. I watched the short Save The 1 promo video and was amazed to see all of these beautiful people who were conceived in this way, as well as the mothers like me, who became pregnant by rape and love their children. I knew that this was a means for me to honor my son, by advocating for my son’s right to life, and others like him. I’m grateful for what Save The 1 stands for and does for women who have experienced this trauma. And now I’m bearing witness to the truth — a child conceived in rape is the mother’s beauty from her pain.

I love you Michael Jude. I hope you know how much I value your life. I honor you!

This story made me stop for a moment. In my opinion the baby should be given anesthesia before an abortion. Not only is the child being killed, but they are being literally torn apart limb from limb. I cannot even imagine! Yet over a million children a year are still destroyed through surgical or chemical abortions. Currently the number of surgical abortions is dropping yet the total number of innocent lives remains the same. Yet that topic is for another post ; )

Should a Baby Receive Anesthesia Before an Abortion Because He Can Feel Intense Pain?

Conor Beck Feb 19, 2016

Pro-life Utah state Sen. Curt Bramble is proposing legislation to require unborn babies be given anesthesia prior to being killed in abortion, a proposal that has supporters and opponents within the pro-life community.

Pro-lifers agree on the fact that unborn babies feel pain, a reality of abortion that has been previously reported at LifeNews. Dr. David Prentice of the Charlotte Lozier Institute said science conclusively shows that “young babies still in the womb at 20 weeks after conception, and probably even earlier, do indeed feel pain, and in fact, may feel more intense pain than a newborn or an adult.”

Prentice explained that unborn babies may feel excruciating pain during abortions because they have a high density of nerve receptors but lack pathways to tone down pain.

Some studies show unborn babies feel pain even earlier than 20 weeks after conception. As early as eighteen weeks, an unborn child injected with a needle releases stress hormones, just as adults do when experiencing pain. Hormone levels in those babies decrease when pain-relievers are supplied, LifeNews previously reported.

However, some pro-lifers argue that methods of making abortion more humane and acceptable miss the point, since a painless killing still results in death. Other pro-lifers argue that as long as abortion is legal, the baby should be spared unnecessary pain.

KUTV of Salt Lake reported that Planned Parenthood is against the bill, though for different reasons. Karrie Galloway, the CEO of Planned Parenthood Utah, said Bramble’s proposal would insert a political opinion into “a woman’s private medical decision”

A similar measure was passed in Montana in 2015 but was vetoed by the state’s Democratic governor.

Currently, Bramble said he is in the process of drafting the bill and determining when during the gestational process the restrictions would apply.

More than 18,000 ‘very late term’ abortions are performed every year on perfectly healthy unborn babies in America, and many states have introduced bills to protect them from painful, late-term abortions. According to the National Right to Life Committee, at least 12 states have passed the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act to protect unborn babies from abortions after 20 weeks because they can feel pain. Bills also have been introduced in several other states and in U.S. Congress.

A national poll by The Polling Company found that, after being informed that there is scientific evidence that unborn children are capable of feeling pain at least by 20 weeks, 64% would support a law banning abortion after 20 weeks, unless the mother’s life was in danger. Only 30% said they would oppose such a law.

A November 2014 poll from Quinnipiac found that 60 percent of Americans support legislation limiting abortions after 20 weeks, including 56 percent of Independents and 46 percent of Democrats.

Wisconsin governor defunds Planned Parenthood, approves $8 million in cuts

11:15 am, Feb 18, 2016 Becky Yeh

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker signed two bills defunding abortion giant Planned Parenthood into law Thursday morning, making the Badger State the ninth in the union to take action to eliminate the group’s taxpayer funding.

Walker approved AB 310, a measure that will shift taxpayer funding away from abortion facilities to comprehensive health centers, eliminating $3.5 million in public funding to Planned Parenthood. The pro-life governor also signed SB 238, which only permits the abortion industry to bill Medicaid for acquisition costs and dispensing fees, cutting $4.5 million from Planned Parenthood.

The Republican governor signed the measures at Life’s Connection, a pro-life pregnancy resource center in Waukesha.

“We want to make sure as taxpayers, whether it’s state funds or federal funds that come through the state of Wisconsin, that they’re used in the way that’s responsible and reasonable,” Walker stated before approving the bills.

SB 328 was approved by the state Senate in January on a party line vote, and passed the state Assembly last week. AB 310 was approved by the Assembly last year and the Senate in January.

Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Casey Mattox praised the passage of the two measures.

“Planned Parenthood shouldn’t be profiting off of women and taxpayers. Yet, this scandal-plagued organization has accepted more than $4 billion in taxpayer subsidies over the past decade while reporting more than $765 million in ‘excess revenues.'”

There are seven health care clinics for every Planned Parenthood facility in the state of Wisconsin, ADF reports.

Wisconsin Right to Life Executive Director Heather Weininger also applauded the defunding bills.

“By the admission of Planned Parenthood’s President and CEO Teresa Huyck in her deposition for Planned Parenthood v. Van Hollen, in 2012 alone Planned Parenthood performed about 4,000 abortions, approximately 60 percent of all Wisconsin abortions in that year,”

Three days ago I was going to post this video push, but you beat me to it! Dang it man! ; )

When will the pro-death crowd enter the discussion to defend the outright killing of their inconvenient child?

edit - added last sentence

I believe myself to be a pretty mellow fellow and it might come across differently on these forums because sometimes I get really angry at people’s sins against the innocent. Now I have never hit a woman, never even come close. However if someone did this to me, that rule would likely be broken. In the video it shows the protester being verbally abused (all the video links I found had massive amounts of spam, so I posted a clean link to a LifeNews) the pro-LIFE protesters. If I was there and that was happening I can see how it could happen to me. I would be very calm and not fall for their baiting. However if a woman came up and did a good job of hiding her pad, then shoved it my mouth I would crush her wind pipe. I hope I wouldn’t ever do something like that and only by the grace of GOD would not but that is the most luciferian action I could ever see myself experiencing. Maybe because I carry concealed I can see myself not escalating the situation, but my GOD that would be hard! Anyway here is the story;

Woman Arrested After Shoving Her Bloody Pad Into Pro-Life Advocate’s Mouth

Steven Ertelt Feb 6, 2017 | 4:55PM Ashland, Oregon

A pro-abortion woman in Oregon has been arrested after an altercation in which she allegedly shoved her bloody pad into the mouth of a pro-life advocate with whom she was arguing.
According to local news reports in Oregon, the pro-abortion woman stands accused of shoving the bloody pad into the pro-life advocate’s mouth and she has turned herself in to police following complaints. The pro-abortion activist has been charged with one count of harassment and has been jailed on the charge.
Here’s more from a local NBC television station along with video of her assault:
Ashland Police said 21-year-old Valerie Starushok is cooperating with police. She will be lodged in the Jackson County Jail on one count of harassment.
According to the Ashland Police Department, an organized protest was being held in front of Planned Parenthood on January 27. During the protest, an unknown woman approached a man who was protesting and “struck him in the face with a wet sanitary napkin.” The woman then ran off toward the rear of the building.
Video of the incident taken by the protester was shared on YouTube. It shows the woman coming toward the protester while he was arguing with another individual. The protester said the woman caught him unaware and “shoved her bloody maxi pad into my mouth” as she yelled profanities.
If you have any information about this incident or the identity of the woman, call Ashland Police and reference case number 17-233
“Eat this f****** pad, you (inaudible),” the woman is heard shouting in the video as she allegedly shoves the wet sanitary napkin into the protester’s mouth.
“I think I’m actually gonna have to call the police,” the man said. “She just shoved a dirty, bloody tampon in my face.”

Scary to see how many colleges use aborted fetuses for research.

These 27 Universities Purchased Body Parts From Aborted Babies for Experimentation

National Randall O’Bannon, Ph.D. Feb 9, 2017 | 6:01PM Washington, DC

Last month, the special Select Investigative Panel of the Energy and Commerce Committee released its Final Report. The results of months of investigation, the special panel’s report addressed the involvement of Planned Parenthood in harvesting and possibly selling fetal tissue and organs harvested from aborted babies. Those results were summarized in Part One.

In examining the fetal tissue industry, the panel looked not just at the supply side– Planned Parenthood and other abortion clinics–but all the way up the chain to the demand side–to the universities and the researchers who were paying for and using tissue harvested from aborted babies. Though Democrats on the panel talked about the value of fetal tissue to research, the panel report rightfully pointed out that, overwhelmingly, the research community has been focusing its attention on more promising avenues that do not involve fetal tissue.

In the process of its investigation into the fetal tissue markets, however, panel investigators found just how deeply entrenched many of the nation’s top universities are in the abortion industry.

The depth of this entanglement between many universities and abortion clinics has been exposed by the Select Panel’s research into the fetal tissue industry. Many taxpayers would be outraged that many doctors [abortionists] serve concurrently on medical school faculties and abortion clinic staff.

Their dual roles mean not only that clinics gain the services of some top medical school faculty, but that medical schools are desensitized to the fundamental contradiction of medical care and abortion, which kills, not heals. Their core principles corrupted, they go so far as to send out their residents for training at these clinics, learning to perform late term abortions, and perhaps even learning the in and outs of the fetal tissue procurement business.

This can’t be what medical schools, many of them state supported, are supposed to be teaching.

Connected to Fetal Tissue

The list of universities on the list of those ordering and using fetal tissue for research contains the names of some of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in the country: Baylor, Dartmouth, Duke, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Ohio State, Stanford, UCLA, University of Michigan, University of Miami, Vanderbilt, Yale, and many others. (See list below drawn from the “Final Report” of the Select Investigative Panel of the Energy & Commerce Committee, December 30, 2016, from pp. 175-7 & 254-5. Hereafter it will be referred to as “SPR.”)

As bad as it is that lauded researchers at America’s top universities are, like movie mad scientists, harvesting the organs of human beings for grisly medical experiments, there are institutions were the involvement has gone even further.

A New Regime in New Mexico

One of the things the select panel uncovered was a special relationship between the Southwestern Women’s Options clinic (SWWO) and the University of New Mexico (UNM). SWWO was not simply the sole provider of fetal tissue to UNM, but also one of the locations where UNM residents and fellows performed abortions.

Twenty years ago, abortions simply weren’t performed at UNM, except in rare cases where the mother’s life or health was at risk or there what the panel termed a “fetal anomaly.” [This is not to endorse abortions under such conditions, but it illustrates how far UNM has fallen.] Prior to 2000, the panel’s report notes, when abortions were performed, “nursing personnel and anesthesiologists often were unwilling to participate” (SPR, p. 236).

That changed when, over objections of upper level hospital administrators, an administrator and another faculty member (identified in the report as “Dr. Administrator” and “NM Doctor #2″) from the university’s departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Family Medicine pushed UNM to expand its abortion offerings. In 2002, the activists succeeded in introducing chemical or “medical” abortion with RU-486, into UNM clinics.

From that point on, it was only a matter of time before UNM was offering surgical abortions and abortions up to 25 weeks at the UNM hospital.

For our purposes here, it is very much worth noting how this transformation came about. Strategic grants from the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation which helped fund abortion expansion at UNM by providing resources were used to employ and train abortionists. (Susan Thompson Buffett is the late wife of billionaire Warren Buffett.)

The panel identifies these programs by name – the Kenneth J. Ryan Residency Training Program and the Center for Reproductive Health Education in Family Medicine for family medicine residents. Both were funded by Buffett. (For more on the Ryan Residency Program, see Log In ‹ Ryan Program — WordPress)

UNM used those funds to form the UNM School of Medicine Fellowship in Family Planning. This was the vehicle through which UNM supplied medical residents to nearby abortion clinics in Albuquerque – SWWO and the local Planned Parenthood – to perform abortions.

According to the select panel’s investigation, one of the educational purposes of the fellowship identified as a “major goal” was to send UNM doctors to SWWO to “give additional volume of 2nd trimester abortions” under the supervision of another UNM faculty member who was a director of SWWO. The “Dr. Administrator” from UNM initiated the training rotation at SWWO (SPR, p. 238).

During their time working at SWWO and Planned Parenthood’s surgical center, their compensation and malpractice insurance was covered by UNM (SPR, p. 238-9).

In essence, SWWO and Planned Parenthood got their abortionists for free from UNM. Tissue from aborted babies was provided to UNM researchers during this time frame, although “donated at no cost,” by SWWO (SPR, p. 243).

At least one of those fellowship recipients has gone on to full-time employment at SWWO, where she continues to perform abortions there in Albuquerque and at another SWWO location in Dallas, TX.

The panel notes, “Since the time when opposition to participating in abortion procedures was the predominant view of UNM medical staff, the culture appears to have changed, along with the composition of UNM hospital and clinic personnel, to one aggressively in favor of the expansion of abortion” (SPR, p. 239).

Faculty members at UNM now engage in political fundraising and lobby for the expansion of “abortion services” and their public funding. The “Dr. Administrator” of the program testified that “advocacy is… a core requirement in our training program” (SPR, p. 239).

Opposition to abortion, once prominent in the university, is now muted. One medical student suing the UNM Board of Regents claimed he was referred to a disciplinary committee for simply expressing his personal views against abortion on his Facebook page (SPR, p. 240).

Clinics and University Built Fetal Tissue Bank

The University of Washington (UW) is what the select panel calls “the Nation’s Largest Fetal Tissue Bank.” According to their investigation, over the last five years, over a dozen clinics have supplied UW with fetal tissue, and numerous doctors on the staffs of those clinics hold faculty positions at UW (SPR, p. 253-4).

UW operates the Birth Defects Research Laboratory (BDRL) where the fetal tissue bank is contained. The names of fifteen different sources appear as sources of tissue on documents produced by UW. The list includes several area clinics, hospitals, and Planned Parenthood of Greater Washington and North Idaho’s affiliate (SPR, p. 254).

Like the University of New Mexico, UW participates in the Kenneth J. Ryan Residency Training Program in Abortion and Family Planning run out of the University of California, San Francisco, providing residents to local abortion clinics. (See more about this Program at the end of this article.) The panel says that several faculty members also perform abortions at both the UW Medical Center as well as outside clinics. Some of those abortions are performed well into the second trimester (SPR, p. 255).

Several UW faculty members, for example, perform abortions at least part time at facilities that are part of the local Cedar River Clinics abortion chain. They include an associate professor of Ob/Gyn at UW who is also the director of UW’s Family Planning Division and its Family Planning Fellowship, an acting assistant professor at UW Ob/Gyn department, and the clinical assistant professor at UW’s Family Medicine Residency (SPR, p. 256-7).

The owner/operator of All Women’s Health-North (Seattle) is a clinical instructor at UW’s Family Medicine Residency (and also at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, where All Women’s Health also has a clinic). All Women’s Health-North, the panel notes, conducts abortion training for UW residents (SPR, p. 257)

The person who served as medical director for Planned Parenthood of Greater Washington and North Idaho (PPGWNI) for eight years was trained as a UW resident and is a clinical professor at UW’s Central Washington Family Medicine Residency program. Another doctor working at PPGWNI is also a clinical faculty member at UW.

The select panel’s immediate interest was whether donation and reimbursement arrangements made between the clinics and the university violated laws concerning the sale of fetal tissue. However the blurring of lines between the clinics and the university was itself disturbing.

Even if no direct payments were made for the tissue (UW claims that recipients of the tissue are charged a flat fee of $200 for samples and only cover costs for the clinics from which it obtains the tissue SPR, pp. 258. 260), the provision of residents and faculty to perform abortions at the clinics seems to create obvious conflicts of interest.

What is the university’s interest in having its faculty staffing abortion clinics? Is the abortionist acting on behalf of the woman or the university?

University and Planned Parenthood Partner in Wisconsin

The panel also found that the University of Wisconsin, School of Medicine and Public Health (UW SMPH) and Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin (PPWI) had a cozy relationship.

From December of 2008 forward, UW SMPH and PPWI had a “Memorandum of Understanding” between themselves in which UW SMPH agreed to provide an assistant professor of Ob/Gyn from the medical school who would serve as the clinic’s associate medical director. Though no quid pro quo is made explicit, the doctor was part of plans to offer late, second term abortions there in Madison, Wisconsin, and it was from PPWI that UW SMPH obtained fetal tissue (SPR, p. 276).

It should be noted that UW SMPH has denied obtaining fetal tissue from that clinic network since November 2010. They say they had since gotten their fetal tissue elsewhere. However, both the abortionist that was there as medical director and another doctor from the university that continues to serve on the PPWI clinic staff were acknowledged in a 2014 medical article thanking them “for their support with tissue collection and processing” (SPR, pp. 276-7).

WI Doctor #2 also serves as director of the Ryan Fellowship at UW SMPH. UW SMPH does send residents to PPWI through a separate contract with the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinic Authority (UWHC). Residents participating in the program are paid by UWHC, not the clinic, and while at PPWI, they would be supervised “by physicians who have UW SMPH faculty appointments and are members of the medical staff at PPWI” (SPR, p. 277).

University of Michigan staffs Planned Parenthood Clinic in Ann Arbor

The Ryan Fellowship shows up again at the University of Michigan (UMich), another school involved in fetal tissue research. Through the fellowship UMich medical students are eligible to perform abortions at the local Planned Parenthood clinic in Ann Arbor, which is listed in the “our locations” portion of the UMich Health Systems website (SPR, p. 278).

One doctor, the report found, was both an associate professor in UMich’s Ob/Gyn department and medical director for Planned Parenthood.

Final Thoughts on the Final Report

Abortion kills babies. If there were pockets of the public who didn’t know that before, they’ve had a chance to learn that awful truth with the release of the Center for Medical Progress’ videos showing the harvesting of fetal eyes, livers, brains, and limbs from Planned Parenthood abortion clinics.

But abortion also corrupts a nation, even its most prestigious institutions. That can be seen in congressional Democrats defending Planned Parenthood and giving third-trimester abortionists a pass. Additionally, it can be seen in the country’s top medical schools sending out their medical students and faculty– the best and the brightest — who are supposed to be learning and teaching how to save lives, to train and work in abortion clinics.

So desensitized to the inhumanity of abortion, the only sense of the value of human life they have retained is as one more commodity to be bought and sold, or raw material for research. But what does it profit a person if they gain the whole world (or a few more dollars) and lose their own soul?

The House’s Select Investigative Panel not only pulled aside the curtain on seamy fetal tissue industry and all its partners, it also revealed how deeply abortion has stained the national soul.

“Planned Parenthood is an amazing organization that directly serves many of the groups impacted by President Trump’s recent executive orders,” the Planned Parenthood of Illinois Bake Sale website stated.

However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Planned Parenthood, the multi-million dollar organization being funded by a relatively small grassroots bake sale, is responsible for at least 6,803,782 abortion deaths of children since Roe vs. Wade. This is roughly analogous to the combined populations of Chicago and Los Angeles, per 2015 U.S. Census Bureau data, CNS News reported.

According to annual reports from Planned Parenthood from 1978 to 2015, abortion numbers “range from 70,000 abortions in the first annual report (from 1978) to 323,999 abortions reported in the 2014-15 annual report, the latest available,” CNS continued.

“Every year, Planned Parenthood receives millions in tax dollars through Title X Family Planning appropriations,” CNS News reported. “Its latest report shows that 43 percent of Planned Parenthood’s revenues come from government health services grants and reimbursements (state and federal) for a total of $553.7 million in 2014.”

The Planned Parenthood of Illinois Bake Sale website offered more insight into the baking fundraiser.

“Not only do they [Planned Parenthood] serve women seeking a variety of sexual health needs, they are staunchly pro-immigrant and serve people who are undocumented, people who often have nowhere else to turn,” the website said. “We chose them because of the broad range of services they provide, the fact that they actively support immigrants, and because the organization and the work they do is under attack by our current administration.”

It seems hypocritical to support opening American borders to all when this same abortion group denies entry into the world for hundreds of thousands of babies, immigrants or otherwise, just because they happen to be unborn.

Planned Parenthood has also been receiving a lot of attention in recent days for deceptive marketing of prenatal services. The abortion group has claimed in the past that it needs taxpayer funding to provide services like prenatal care, but a new Live Action investigation found that it rarely offers this service. Its main business is abortions.

The undercover video project by Live Action found that 92 of the 97 Planned Parenthood facilities that it called or visited did not offer any prenatal services, despite advertising otherwise. Since then, many of the abortion group’s facilities have scrubbed the phrase “prenatal” care from their websites.

U.S. Senators introduced a federal bill to defund the abortion business last week.

Recent polls also indicate Americans support the defunding efforts. New polling found 56 percent of Americans in battleground states want Planned Parenthood defunded.

A story about how all of our lives effect the lives of others in ways we literally often have no idea how.

The happiest, most inspiring, pro-life story you’ll read today

Sometimes the best thing you can do for the pro-life cause is just to “smile and walk out into the world.”

Sherry Antonetti January 26, 2017

I’ve been to marches; I’ve prayed at clinics. I’ve written articles and letters to the editor. And I have 10 children. Yet the most effective witness I ever gave to the pro-life cause was when I wasn’t trying to do anything other than find a way to not be lonely.

Back in 1993, I became a mother and I felt the walls of the world close in. So I went out — out seeking connections and adult conversations and anything to help distinguish one day from the next as I worked to recover from pregnancy and adjusted to being a full-time mom.

One day, I saw the receptionist at our apartment and it looked like she’d been crying. I asked her what was up. She told me, “You.”

I didn’t understand, but she invited me in to sit with her. It turned out she’d just broken up with her boyfriend and found out afterward that she was pregnant. Two girlfriends already offered to drive her to get an abortion, but she said seeing my son every day, holding him as he smiled and kicked, she couldn’t. She just couldn’t.

Her reaction to me actually echoed my own reaction to someone else: I’d become a stay-at-home mom because I’d seen a baby boy in the daycare and witnessed his smiles. I couldn’t not be with my son, I just couldn’t. That unknown baby’s smiles led to my staying home and being desperately lonely … and that led to sharing my son’s smiles with this pregnant receptionist. I hugged her and we cried over her worries.

We talked about what she could do. I’d never counseled anyone before, but we created a plan. It involved calling a doctor to get herself checked, calling her folks to get support and calling her boyfriend to let him know. I didn’t know what would happen, but told her we’d be there for her regardless. She gave my son a kiss and dried her eyes.

I left thinking that the loneliness of being a new stay-at-home mother was nothing compared to hers. It rained hard for the next week, so I didn’t get out for my daily walk. The few times I made it by the office, she wasn’t there. I worried.

However, the next time I saw her, she threw open the door and hugged me. Everyone had rallied for her. Her boyfriend and her parents. Now instead of the loneliness, there was a family fully engaged and fired-up alive, eagerly anticipating the child’s birth. They married and before I moved away, they’d had a son and a daughter. My son’s smiles allowed another two children’s smiles to be known to the world and a whole host of smiles for the mom, the dad, and the grandparents.

It wasn’t marching or protesting or lobbying that won a heart in a crisis pregnancy. It was presence. So while we march for all those who weren’t given the opportunity of life, or who were wounded by abortion (fathers, mothers, siblings and everyone else), and while we hope for a defunding of Planned Parenthood, we should recognize the other part of being pro-life. We have to be more pro-life and pro-living than protesting.

So smile and walk out into the world, and know God will put you where you can be most effective.

If a woman wants to have her choice of a Chinese man, times ahead look very good. Can you imagine having your choice of partner, I mean you can make the opposite sex do just about anything to earn your attention. My brain cannot wrap around what that picture will look like.

30 Million Chinese Men May be Single by 2050 Because So Many Girls are Aborted

Micaiah Bilger Feb 14, 2017 Beijing, China

Sex-selection abortions and infanticide have decimated the female population in China.

The gendercide has been going on for years, leading researchers to predict that there will be about 30 million Chinese men looking for wives outside its borders in the coming years because so many girls were aborted.

The Eastern Mirror reports Wang Guangzhou, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, recently predicted that there will be 15 million unmarried Chinese men who cannot find a bride in 2020, just three years from now. By 2050, he predicted the number will double to 30 million, according to the report.

Here’s more from the report:

Yuan Xin, a professor at Nankai University and expert on family planning policy, told state-run Global Times that the number will likely exceed 30 million in 2050, as gender bias in favour of males at birth is still high in China.

The national average sex ratio at birth peaked at 121.

Two males for every 100 females in China in 2004, while the standard ratio set by the UN is between 103 and 107 males for every 100 females.

In 2015, the nationwide average was 113. Five males against 100 females, the seventh decrease since 2009.

Zhai Zhenwu, a sociologist at the Renmin University of China, said the continued imbalance was caused by the development of ultrasound technology in the 1980’s, which aided the traditional family preferences for a son, the People’s Daily report said.

Recently released census data from China found that there were 708 million men and 675 million women in China in 2016, a further indication of the on-going abuse against girls, the report states. Government data from 2014 found the gender ratio at birth was 115.88 boys for every 100 girls, an unnatural statistic.

Many blame China’s brutal one child policy for being part of the problem. China recently changed to a two child policy, but many believe coerced and forced abortions and sterilizations will continue and baby girls will continue to be targeted.

A 2015 report from Radio Free Asia has more about the situation:

Experts said the gender imbalance in China’s population can be traced back to the start of the “one-child policy” during the 1970s.

Gender studies scholar Lu Pin, who edits the online newspaper Women’s Voice, said the policy had combined with a preference in Chinese traditional culture for male heirs, whose duty it is to care for their parents in old age.

“The one-child policies actually allow for the gender bias in favor of boys, and, as such, can be said to bear some responsibility for reinforcing it,” Lu said.

“In rural areas, the one-child policy was always in effect a ‘one-and-a-half child policy,’ because couples would be allowed a second child if the first was a girl,” she said.

“If the first-born was a boy, then they wouldn’t be allowed to have another.”

The targeting of unborn girls for abortions also is a problem in India and other parts of the world. In response, some governments have banned the practice of sex-selection abortions as well as gender testing. In 2015, the prime minster of India also promoted the value of daughters in a social campaign.

Sex-selection abortions also appear to be a problem in the western world, though there is not as much data about it. Only seven states in the U.S. ban the practice.

According to research by the Charlotte Lozier Institute, “One major study that analyzed U.S. Census data from 2000 found that third births in families of foreign-born Chinese, Indians, and Koreans in the U.S. who already had two daughters displayed a ratio of 151 boys to 100 girls—an extreme male-biased ratio.”

Recently I attended a Catholic Men’s Conference and personally I did not receive near the growth as many other men claimed to have had at the conference. Not because I am some “holier than thou man” but because many of the speakers they had were nothing more than emotional stories about how they came to find GOD after something tragic happened in their life. Want to know what? Protestants have those same kinds of stories and they will always be better at telling those stories because they have been doing it for longer. Catholic Truth will always win the day because there is only one Faith established by Christ when He was on earth, during His time it was called “The Way” but everyone knows it as the Roman Catholic Faith in modern times. During the conference there was even a priest who talked about how Bill Gates was a holy and charitable guy. Perfect example would be of how even Catholic priests are men with ordained hands, but none the less still men. A priest at the conference praised Bill Gates because he gives away billion of dollars, yes but those dollars are always used to spread evil acts like abortion. sorry for the rant and story It reminds me of how everyone claimed Nelson Mandela was a great leader of Africa. That point is another post.

Bill Gates Slams Trump Executive Order to Defund International Planned Parenthood

Steven Ertelt Feb 15, 2017 Washington, DC

The majority of Americans were excited what President Donald Trump signed an executive order to defund the International Planned Parenthood abortion business. But long time abortion activist Bill Gates of Microsoft fame was not among them.

Ironically, Gates says the executive order endangers the lives of millions of women and children. Never mind that millions of unborn baby boys and girls are killed in abortions worldwide and millions more women are injured and even killed by legal abortion procedures.

The Executive Memorandum to reinstate the Mexico City Policy stops taxpayer funding of groups that perform and promote abortions overseas but does not stop non-abortion international assistance. The order ensures U.S. foreign aid will continue to go to health care and humanitarian relief in the millions of dollars. It just will not subsidize abortion overseas.

Gates complains that abortion companies like Planned Parenthood and Marie Stopes International got cut off from the public trough.

The changes are expected to result in funding from the world’s biggest donor to family planning and women’s health programmes in the developing world being slashed. It could, Bill Gates told the Guardian, “create a void that even a foundation like ours can’t fill”.

But Trump’s order goes further and applies to any organisation that receives funding from US Aid , not just those involved in family planning. That expansion, said Melinda Gates, was a surprise.

“We’re concerned that this shift could impact millions of women and girls around the world,” she said. “It’s likely to have a negative effect on a broad range of health programs that provide lifesaving treatment and prevention options to those most in need.

Bill Gates said their foundation would not be able to bridge the potential funding gap. “The US is the No 1 donor in the work that we do. Government aid can’t be replaced by philanthropy. When government leaves an area like that, it can’t be offset, there isn’t a real alternative. This expansion of this policy, depending on how it’s implemented, could create a void that even a foundation like ours can’t fill.”

But Gates has almost singlehandedly funded the Planned Parenthood abortion corporation’s work overseas.

According to the Gates Foundation grant database, the Foundation gave Planned Parenthood of America, the International Planned Parenthood Federation, and Planned Parenthood of Western Washington about $71 million from before 2009 through 2013. Additionally, the Gates Foundation gave $46.1 million to Marie Stopes International in 2012 alone.

Much of this giving is focused on Africa, Asia, and Latin America, where abortion-providers like Planned Parenthood, Marie Stopes, and Ipas seek to overturn pro-life laws and sometimes even provide illicit abortion drugs.

While Gates Foundation funds cannot be earmarked for abortion, the fungibility of money makes it easier for these organizations to provide abortion internationally. In other words, every dollar the Gates Foundation gives to Planned Parenthood for distributing birth control or building an abortion-friendly clinic frees up a dollar in Planned Parenthood’s budget to spend elsewhere.

When pro-abortion former President Barack Obama took office, Obama overturned a policy that prevented funding of groups that promote or perform abortions overseas. The Mexico City Policy covered over $400 million in federal funds, part of which flowed to the abortion businesses International Planned Parenthood and Marie Stopes International for their foreign efforts.

As LifeNews.com reported, the pro-life policy had been in place during the entirety of the Bush administration and Obama rescinded it on his first week in office. Named for a 1984 population conference where President Reagan initially announced it, the Mexico City Policy made it so family planning funds could only go to groups that would agree to not do abortions or lobby foreign nations to overturn their pro-life laws.

Obama’s decision to force Americans to pay for promoting and performing abortions overseas was not a popular one.

Reacting to the decision in a poll conducted by the Gallup organization, 58 percent of Americans opposed Obama’s pro-abortion decision while just 35 percent support it and 7 percent have no opinion.

Breaking down the new poll further, Gallup asked respondents to state their opinion on seven major actions President Obama had taken since becoming president. Overturning the Mexico City Policy engendered more opposition than any of the other actions and it had the lowest level of support.

The pro-abortion move also evoked the least support from Democrats and the most opposition from Republicans and independents.

While 59 percent of Democrats supported the move, it came in last among the seven total issues on which Gallup surveyed. Only 8 percent of Republicans backed overturning the limits as did just 33 percent of the independent voters surveyed — with opposition higher about this action than any other Obama had taken a president.

At the time, Douglas Johnson, the legislative director for the National Right to Life Committee, condemned the decision.

He told LifeNews.com how the executive order will hurt non-abortion groups that provide medical care and services to women and families in foreign nations.

“One effect of Obama’s order will be to divert many millions of dollars away from groups that do not promote abortion, and into the hands of those organizations that are the most aggressive in promoting abortion in developing countries,” he said.

“Obama’s order will predictably result in a redirection of funds to groups such as the International Planned Parenthood Federation, which are ideologically committed to the doctrine that abortion on demand must be universally available as a birth control method,” Johnson said.

Nelson Mandela Slammed For Abortion Views By Pro-Life Activists

12/10/2013 Updated Jan 25, 2014

(RNS) As world leaders and ordinary citizens gathered in a South African sports stadium on Tuesday (Dec. 10) to remember Nelson Mandela, abortion foes pushed a message that went against the global outpouring of praise: The anti-apartheid leader, they argued, backed a sweeping abortion rights law that negates any good he achieved.

“I cannot get past this and cannot view Mandela as any other than a leader who engaged in mass genocide of his own innocent people,” Jill Stanek, a prominent abortion opponent, wrote on her blog at LifeNews.com.

“Nelson Mandela was no saint,” wrote Paul Tuns, editor of The Interim, an anti-abortion paper in Canada. “My concern is with pro-lifers and Christians joining in the praise,”

“Nelson Mandela was no saint,” wrote Paul Tuns, editor of The Interim, an anti-abortion paper in Canada. “My concern is with pro-lifers and Christians joining in the praise,” he added.
Abortion opponents began blogging and tweeting their objections, often in blistering tones, almost as soon as Mandela died on Dec. 5. Their message was analogous to objections many conservatives raised over Mandela’s past affiliation with the Communist Party and his role in what they said was a “terrorist” movement to end whites-only rule of South Africa.

But the anti-abortion objections grew when Catholic leaders joined in the chorus of praise for Mandela. Pope Francis lauded Mandela for “promoting the human dignity of all the nation’s citizens and for forging a new South Africa built on the firm foundations of non-violence, reconciliation and truth.” He prayed Mandela’s example “will inspire generations of South Africans.”

Francis also sent a high-ranking Vatican official, Cardinal Peter Turkson of Ghana, as his personal representative to the memorial.

In the U.S., New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan hailed Mandela as “a hero” and said “he truly made the world a better place.”

Statements like those added to the irritation of some abortion foes.

“It is absolutely vital that Catholic leaders do not allow themselves to become … swept away by personality cults,” John Smeaton, head of Britain’s Society for the Protection of Unborn Children, wrote. “Catholic leaders have a duty to stand up to public figures with anti-life and anti-family records, however praiseworthy their record may be on other issues.”

At least one U.S. prelate, Bishop Thomas Tobin of Rhode Island, did not join in the chorus of praise and instead called Mandela’s abortion record “shameful.”

“While we pray for the peaceful repose of President Mandela’s immortal soul and the forgiveness of his sins, we can only regret that his noble defense of human dignity did not include the youngest members of our human family, unborn children,” Tobin said in a statement after Mandela’s death.

In 1994, Mandela was elected the first president of a post-apartheid South Africa, and in 1996 he backed the Choice on Termination of Pregnancy Act. The law reversed what had been a very restrictive abortion policy under the previous government. The Guttmacher Institute called the act “one of the most liberal abortion laws in the world.”

Media Mourn Deaths of Hundreds of Whales, Ignore Deaths of Thousands of Aborted Babies

Ken Orr Feb 15, 2017 Wellington, New Zealand

This week the media have been leading the nation in national mourning for the deaths of hundreds of Pilot Whales that perished on the beach at Farewell Spit. This tragic news has featured on the front pages of our daily newspapers and as the lead item on the 6 pm TV One news.

The media have recounted how crowds of volunteers have provided touching compassion and dedicated care to save these precious lives. We have been deeply moved by the sight of several volunteers singing to the distressed whales to comfort them and others crying at the death of those they were seeking desperately to save.

While it is entirely appropriate to cover such sad events, Right to Life questions the priorities of the media.

On one hand we have them presenting the stranding of whales as a major news event and on the other the Abortion Supervisory Committee’s report in June 2016, that 13,155 innocent and defenseless unborn children were aborted in the previous 2015 year, is barely worth a mention. That the deliberate killing of these children, with the consent of and funded by government as a core health service is virtually ignored by our daily newspapers, on radio, or on TV is untenable.

All the Whales in the world are not equal to the intrinsic and inestimable value of one precious unborn child which is a unique and unrepeatable miracle of God’s loving creation.
If the violent killing of 35 children in the womb each day in New Zealand is not an issue, we have some very serious questions to ask ourselves.

As Joseph Stalin, one of the greatest mass murderers in history said, the murder of one person is a tragedy, but the murder of tens of thousands is just a statistic. That mindset accounts for the silent acceptance by our community of the murder of 500,000 children in the womb in New Zealand since 1978.

Why is the media silent about the killing of our own children?

It is a grave injustice and a crime against humanity that the government authorizes and funds the killing of more than 13,000 children in the womb each year, under a law that is supposed to protect them. The government on the other hand, is vigorously supporting the extension of the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary to protect the lives of whales and their breeding and feeding. If the government is really serious about protecting life, why is it that they are determined to protect whales and yet are not prepared to protect our most precious resource, our own children?

Kneedragger I salute you. You never move, you never waver.

Thank you Pat but to be honest I am never presented with evidence to show that I am wrong. The closest I ever came was in the abortion and breast cancer thread. I was given quite a bit of data but logic, science and reason never told me I was wrong. If a woman has an abortion, high levels of artificial estrogen or progesterone are given. Can a scientist really claim the hormones that do NOT break down cause zero ill effects? An honest one would never make that claim because science, logic or even reason can never support the claim.

To me it is incredibly similar to the Catholic faith. My faith does not determine what I have to believe, where I cannot question it, instead the fight for life meshes perfectly with the Catholic faith.

Thank you again Pat, but I just love life and it breaks my heart to know so many, many people are too selfish to be responsible for a life they created. Instead they kill an innocent and defenseless child, which is easier to justify in their minds. That reason alone is why I fight. Innocent life must always be protected.

How Can You Do a Better Job Counseling Women Considering Abortion? Here’s Some Tips

Josh Brahm Feb 16, 2017 Washington, DC

Every other Tuesday we publish a new episode of the Equipped for Life Podcast, available to everyone who purchases our course, “Equipped for Life: A Fresh Approach to Conversations about Abortion.” Generally these podcast episodes won’t be available to the general public, but we plan on occasionally making exceptions, and we’ve decided to make our 11th episode the first one we make available to everybody.

This is the first part in a two-part series on practical sidewalk counseling tips, from the person who has impressed me most with the way he thinks about decision making in front of abortion facilities, our Operations Coordinator Jacob Nels.
Here are some of the topics we cover in this episode:
• Understanding the mindset of a lot of the people who show up at abortion facilities;
• Learning important facts about the abortion facility, like when they do abortions;
• The primary things Jacob says while sidewalk counseling;
• The very careful way Jacob invites people to view a graphic abortion image;
• Two reasons why Jacob offers to buy meals for the people he talks to;
• What Jacob says when his main “pitch” falls on deaf ears, that he would never say at the beginning of the conversation.

Many of the “Related links” on the original page are good too.
