The 5/2 Protein Diet

Sorry, I missed your question. I think that would work. We’ve written about a one-day “fast” before that was just MAG-10. I like that for a short-term thing, up to two days.

I’m actually going to working with a man who does a faith-based fast for 40 days. He does it every year and loses tons of weight, mostly muscle because he’s lean already. Juice is allowed, so I made sure something like MAG-10 still fits his guidelines. It does, so that should be a fun study-of-one.

Been stacking my MAG 10 with Surge… about 4 workouts in

You were supposed to ask me how it’s been going…

I am 6’ 195 lbs. and at about 15% body fat. Would like to trim down my belly fat. Just doing the 1 day a week right now but I am freaking starving after about 2 hours after drinking a shake. Does that pass? Is this because I’m already fairly lean so I don’t have fat stores to pull from?

Are these Metabolic Drive shakes?

What is the rest of your diet like?

I am using up the rest of my SixStar Casein Protein and then I will switch to Metabolic Drive. I really don’t need to lose a ton of weight, just lean up a bit. I basically follow the Mediterranean Diet and drink in moderation.

Here’s your issue. SixStar itself is a pretty low quality product, and the included maltodextrin is spiking your blood sugar and creating that hunger. Metabolic Drive doesn’t have that in it, and, in turn, doesn’t create that spike. You’ll see how there is 9g of carbs per scoop of the other stuff

With you taking in 2 scoops per shake, that’s 18g of carbs each time, compared to the 3-4g per scoop in Metabolic Drive. And given Metabolic Drive’s carb source ISN’T maltodextrin, it’s also not going to be a hard/quick spike from carbs.

Depending on how you structure your Mediterranean Diet, you may be able to minimize hunger. Becoming fat adapted can mean going a LONG time without feeling that starvation feeling of hunger, but if you’re burning sugars, we tend to get that blood spike and crash.

OK, that makes sense. The other question/concern I have is the warning at the bottom. “Do not exceed 2 scoops (2 servings) in a 24-hour period”. Is this specific to SixStar or is there a risk of Kidney damage by doing this diet?

There is always a risk in any activity you undertake: it’s simply a question of how BIG a risk. If kidney health was a concern of mine, I’d consult a nephrologist. When I spoke with mine, he had no concerns with my high protein diet, as I had healthy, functioning kidneys that did a fantastic job of processing my intake.

I’ve never seen that on a protein powder label before, even for some BS legal reason. Weird. Maybe it’s the lead content of discount protein powders. :man_shrugging:

Yeah the mag10 surge stack is awesome.

Following up on my experience, I did one day of this and lost 7 pounds in one day (197 to 190). I was blown away. I’m guessing this is not the usual experience for people. I went back up a few pounds after returning to my normal diet, but I am still down (194). Doing it again this week and it is easier, plus I am supplementing with MCT Oil which seems to be helping. May move to 2 days a week soon, but I want to take my time, all I can think about is food.

What do you eat for your normal diet? This could explain things.

A 7lb loss in one day isn’t unusual. It’s not 7lbs of TISSUE lost: there’s a lot of water and food mass involved in that.

I mentioned earlier in this thread, I eat a primarily Mediterranean diet. I’m a pretty healthy person with and in good shape, just want to lean up a bit. Go from 15% to 14-13%. The MCT oil seems to be helping with energy and hunger pangs while I’m doing this.

Sorry: it’s been a while since you last posted, and I was not tracking you had posted previously in this thread. I go back to my earlier thoughts that vectoring more toward fats when having HSMs might go a long way in preventing hunger pains. Currently, I’m on my third day of relying on shakes until an evening HSM and experience no issues with hunger, which I attribute to being fat adapted. If I’m in a state where I’m “white knuckling” the nutrition, I tend to binge when given food.
