The 2024 Olympics Thread 🏹

I’m not watching the Olympics. I don’t watch sports unless it’s a person I know doing a thing I’ve done (like CrossFit or shooting).

So drop your Olympic news and observations here. Share whatever’s interesting. It could even be loosely related, like this episode of Rogan talking about the The Enhanced Games:

I just hope these two young ladies do well in boxing.

Ok, seriously, I was at the barber shop and they had the archery event on the TVs. I was surprisingly pulled in. The scoring system provides a lot of drama. Also, I used to hunt with a recurve, so I almost knew what was going on.

…that is so gross.

Watch the Olympics on the Peacock website. It’s sooo much better than watching the curated stuff you see on the TV channel.

There’s a multiview page that you can watch so that you can switch to the one where something significant is happening if you want. And the rewind function is so much better than the damn TV remote. (glad I finally dumped my cable)

And you definitely can choose not to watch those “ladies”^^.

I’m loving Ilona Maher. Every video I see of her on social media makes me love her even more. AND she’s 5’10 so we’re basically twins.

 They don’t do it for the physiques of course, but which Olympic sport produces the best male and female physiques from a completely aesthetic (“that’s hot!”) perspective?

Female pole vaulters?

Male sprinters?

Seems like a chicken or egg thing. Does the sport produce the body or were the genetics already in place that make people drawn to the sport they’d be best at?

I think there are super good looking people in a lot of sports and it kinda depends on the individual, but people at the height of their athleticism tend to be their best looking.

However, I do love the physiques of swimmers – male and female – they’re all amazing!

So which events are you watching or excited to watch later? Got any favorite athletes?

For my money, it’s the javelin, 800m track, and pole vault that have the best female physiques.
Apparently I’m attracted to strong hunter women. Makes sense, I married a D1 sprinter turned lawyer.

For men, its track sprinters.

Yesterday, I randomly caught the Women’s team Epee finals. (ex-fencer) I was mesmerized for an hour -both the bronze and gold was determined in sudden death overtime, plus the winning team came from behind!

The curated 5 minute summation on the main channel did it zero justice.

I am always fascinated by the sprinting events (maybe because I’m slow af LOL); 400 meters is my limit though -longer than that and it’s boring. Same for the swimming events.

Will also try to catch some wrestling stuff, which they always pay at best cursory attention to on the regular TV programming.

I think that’s what always makes a sport more interesting – when you’ve done it before.

Rugby players. Dudes are jacked and athletic.

Looking forward to some more skateboarding and the new addition of break dancing. I don’t know if break dancing should technically be included but the athleticism and body control of both gets overlooked for the more traditional sports.

For the men it’s wrestlers at 185lb no question

Maybe I’m biased, but judokas in the -90kg category are the most aesthetic.

Speaking about memeable moments, besides Kim-Yeji the internet sensation from Korea, the fifty-something Turkish colonel who won silver in pistol also has the vibe “shooting at stationary targets is easy, they don’t cry and beg for mercy”

She is the kind of role model I want for my daughters. Chances are they are both going to be very tall and athletically built (given my large size and wife is 5’9, both very athletic builds). So physically they will probably match.
Also, she is intelligent and humble (from what I can) but tough as nails.

If you know you will probably lose anyway, and possibly get hurt, you should just leave. If all of the biologically female boxers just quit, it would end this charade. By participating, they are, in spite of what they say, condoning it. You prove nothing by stepping in there, thinking that if you win you will show some sort of girl power. The worst thing would be if a biological woman beats him as it would end up justifying the clown show.

I agree. The scoring would seem kinda tough because their performance is so subjective, but if figure skaters can do it, why not break dancers?
