This issue is not that Kerry made a stupid statement, it’s the intent and perception behind that statement.
My feeling is that many people feel the Democratic party is made up of rich elitist snobs who look down on everyone else as being stupid ignorant hicks. Many of Hillary’s comments over the years, particularly the ones made in other countries about Americans, highlight this perception.
Now Kerry comes out and states the same thing again; military people are only there because they weren’t smart enough to get educated.
So once again the limousine liberals tell all us peons how superior they are and how we need them to just exists.

What he should have said: “Work hard, study hard, get good grades, go to college (graduate from college) or else grow up to be a whiney republican hack who takes every little statement made by a politician as truth.”
Why is it that democrats don’t take anything that a republican politician says as anything more than rhetoric yet the republicans become the biggest cry babies as soon as it’s politically convenient for them? Is it because they have no other issues they can speak about without making people wince and or cringe?

Both political parties do this at every opportunity. Don’t excuse the democrats, they are as bad or worse. This is politics, point out the flaws in the other person or party. That is what they do, that is what we are doing here. People align themselves to a party and then defend it vigorously, right or wrong be damned many times out.

77% of all coverage provided Democrats by the “Non-Liberally Biased” Media is positive. 12% of all coverage provided Republians is positive. Please bear in mind that it’s mainly these same, upstanding, non-biased folks who conduct the polls.
Yet we react with shock when the Democrats can’t win elections. Well, this is why. They don’t know when to shut-up. They insult the American people. The people that they want to vote for them.
And after, when they have a shot at damage control they say, “I’m not apologizing! It’s the President who should apologize!” Arrogance. And the face of the Democrat’s arrogance is John Kerry.
The voters see through this crap and the see through the Democrats. They see and the Democrats pay for it at the polls.
It’ll happen again.
Then we’ll hear the shock from the media. “The election was stolen. It was rigged! HOW COULD THIS HAVE HAPPENED! OUR polls said it was a landslide for our side…I mean…for the Democrats!”
The New York Times is already essentially ignoring this story, hoping it will go away. It didn’t get a headline and it’s (the very definition of) buried in a larger article on Iraq and the election. Then the NYT has already paid because it’s not viewed as anything other than a Democrat organ these days. Pathetic.
So, yeah. THANKS, John! This will be TWO elections you cost your part in two years!
If you actually think there is a liberal media in the United States then I am surprised you have the brainpower to operate a keyboard.
Kerry was telling a string of jokes. This one was about how if Bush had studied at all that the Iraq debacle wouldn’t have happened. He said something like “study or you will get stuck in Iraq”. The actual joke had the word US in it. I would have read, " study or you will get US stuck in Iraq".
The very fact that this bullshit story is getting the media attention it is is proof that the media is incredibly right-wing biased. You republicans are so stupid you support the man who is killing you by taking you into a bullshit war and the jump all over a guy for fucking up a joke.

Oh boy, here we have the lying whores again.
Hmmm…calling 250 Swift Boat veterans ‘lying whores’…
…issues? Mental illness?
They did lie (we can all agree about that), not sure if they had sex for cash though.
As it happens, a Swifty used to go to our church. He has since retired to Florida. His response to being called a ‘lying whore’ by you gentlemen would be rather swift (pun intended).
Guys, there’s only one lying whore Swifty and its Kerry. For example, he’d get a scratch, put in for a Purple Heart with a buddy superior. All the guys would protest that it was a scam, but it got approved anyway by Kerry’s pal.
You gents are calling very brave and honorable men vile names. Are you carrying on the good Senator’s traditions?
Still, your fakery aside, we all agree they were liars(hilariously bad liars to boot).

I don’t disagree that post invasion Iraq has not been run well. My point has always been that, although it hasn’t been run well, it is not without success. I heard the other day someone making the point that we win in combat every time, but it’s everything else that’s not going well. So with that in mind, I guess Iraq is a bit Vietnam like.
I still believe that going into Iraq was the right thing to do, as did many, many others at the time. But here’s the thing, you don’t go into combat with a “plan to win the peace”, you go into combat with a plan to kick ass! Period. You worry about the peace after you get done kicking ass. what are we supposed to be, an army of goddamn hippies!?!?
So I will agree with you that post war Iraq isn’t a benchmark example of good management or leadership skills, and doesn’t seem to be improving at an acceptable pace, but it’s not quite the utter failure that the left wants us all to think it is either.
This shit about "Bush is evil!, Cheney is the devil!, Rove’s gonna steal your kids in the middle of the night!; that kind of bullshit hate messaging is what’s driving partisan politics, and a stake into the heart of common sense. I remember getting caught up in all the anti-clintonism at the time, and looking back, I realize that the same shit was going on then.
And honestly 100m, I haven’t seen you be anything but a partisan cheerleader on this forum. In your world, the Democrats shit doesn’t just not stink, it smells like roses. We both know that’s not true.
Anyway, I’m kinda rambling here as you can tell, so have a good day.

But as you point out, pointing out that Bush/Rummy have screwed the pooch in Iraq and afghanistan is NOT partisan. The people who should be the angriest at Bush should be those who supported the invasion.
They made huge mistakes pre-invasion (troop size, the lack of phase IV planning because they believed they’d be out in 3-6 months, Rummy f–king up TPFDD,etc.), huge mistakes after the fall of Bagdhad (Not securing borders, not securing ammo dumps, not stopping the looting, de-baathification, telling the Iraqi army your fired and take your weapons with you, not focusing on reconstruction, Hiring CPA workers based on idealogy over experience, not recognizing the insurgency and therefore not using counter-insurgency tactics, Abu ghraib, etc…)and with all of these totally predicted and planned for events, they’ve held no one accountable.
Fighting war based soley on a now failed ideology is just a terrible idea.
I’ll take realism (liberal or conservative) over the neocons’ catastrophic failed pipe dreams anyday.
and yet these idiots have been wrong about absolutely everything still get facetime on TV.

Anyone can put up quotes and pretend they are true.
We could decide to create an AlDurr wikiquote page with such gems as “To eat babies is divine, especially with A1 sauce.”
If I see such quotes attributed to public men, I want to see
a) the context of the quote, which means also providing access to the full statement, speech, or conversation
b) more than one source of the information. That’s why we get to read, over and over again, the “quote” from George HW Bush saying that atheists shouldn’t be allowed to be citizens. Gee, only one person ever heard him say that, and that person had an agenda? Go figure.
I can agree with you on this. I never said that it was a definitive source, just a place to start. If you look further, there are references to many of the sources of the quotes.
Also, does your belief about quotes from public figures extend to both sides of the fence? No offense, but I have seen many people on this board make the claim that they look at both sides, but when push comes to shove, they are clearly full of shit. I am simply asking the question. I am not accusing you of anything.
BTW, The quote is “To eat WOMEN is divine, especially with A1 sauce.” If you are going to quote me, get it right. ![]()
