Texas Longhorns Win!!

KIR DOG, yes he should. He got held to 80 yards and one touchdown. He didn’t earn anything. All season long they played against teams who couldn’t have stopped our HS offense from back in the day. Arizona State for example gave up 500+ yards to RUTGERS. Does that sound like tough competitiong to you? Personally speaking looking only at statistics Brady Quinn had the best year of everyone in consideration but he didn’t even get 1 first place vote. That’s another issue for another thread, but Reggie Bush was not the best player in the country this year and I believe the man who really did carry his team and was most deserving of the award did indeed win a National Title tonight. That in the end is all that matters.

I posted over in the wrong thread a minute ago but i’ll just reiterate here:

Bad calls are what they are, part of the game. They’re great for rivalries and it’s just something that needs to be accepted.

With that said, Congrats to Vince Young and his Texas team. Well played.

Did anyone else catch what Leinart said to the ABC reporter after the game? “We were the better team, they just made the plays.”

What a fucking asshole.[/quote]

Totally classless. At least Reggie Bush was man enough to go to the Longhorn dressing room and congratulate them. Where was Leinart? Crying to the press about how they were rally better than Texas.

How much you wanna bet that there are some SC butt lickers in the AP that still give the Trojans a 1st place vote, or two/

I’m not a Texas fan, but you can bet your ass that I was rooting for them to win this…

It’s so nice to see what may be the greatest team in College Football History (according to most sports writers… ESPN… cough cough) LOSE to a team that they didn’t think had the BIG NAMES and a couple of H winners… Congrats UT, way to bring the big trophy to the BIG XII"

Best individual performance I’ve ever seen. True T-man style there.

Anybody think Young’s performance changes the #1 pick in the draft? At least should give the Houston Texans some 2nd thoughts…

Also, Leinart = whiney bitch.

You guys can’t really knock Reggie Bush. The guy carried the ball for 82 yards on only 13 carries (over 6 ypc) and added another 95 yards receiving. I thought Bushed played very well with the exception of that lateral. Of course, if he had pulled that off then it would have made highlights for the next 20 years.

I for one will eat my words. I was very sure that USC would dominate this game. I underestimated the quality of the Texas defense. I also think Mack Brown out-coached Pete Carroll at certain points.

As a PSU fan I wasn’t really rooting for either team. I was hoping that PSU was going to find their way into the Rose Bowl but I don’t think they could’ve taken either of these two teams. Either way it was an awesome game to watch.

By the way, check out this article:

Scary to think about.

Vince Young isn’t coming out this year.

Texas football baby, there’s nothin like it.

I saw that and thought it was aweful sportsmanship.

Even if Vince Young did come out this year, I don’t think he’d be in the Top 5, maybe not even Top 10.

He’s a tremendous athlete, though.

I wondered how long it would take before that came up. Do you really think they would have stopped him from the 2 had they called him down there? I mean the guy only had 460-some-odd yards of total offense.

Funny, but I don’t hear you whining about the incomplete USC pass that really was an interception.

But no matter - USC still lost. And they lost to TEXAS!!! That’s gotta suck for the left coasters.

I’m Michigan fan but common i was saying it before the second quarter ended that the blown call was going to be huge as to whether or not vince would have made it anyway…who’s to say he got stopped twice at 20 (remember the two missed field goals). Yeah good game however it sucks the refree helped texas

I don’t see why he’s an asshole without vince young would texas win?—not a chance in hell but they did that’s all that matters
without leinart at qb could usc still win all those games 34 yes because his TEAM was that good.

Another pic of Vince

Mufasa

You have to look at the facts, both teams showed up and played a hell of a game. One of the USC guys referred to Vince Young as a freakish player, I have to agree. It’s not very often you find a quarterback that can not only throw the ball under pressure and make it stick but one who is not scared to run it up field and gain some yardage. Way To Go Horns.

People need to quit sucking USC’s tit, they lost no matter how much you praise them, you’re not going to get a free scholarship.

I don’t see how you can set there and say that the blown call at the goal line was anymore important than the interception that was totally missed. It led to a USC field goal.

They couldn’t stop Young at all. He probably wouldn’t mind transferring to a PAC-10 school after last night. I don’t think he ripped through any other team this entire season the way he did “One of The Greatest Teams of All Time”.

Oh yea, Leinhart sounded like a total bitch when he was talking to the press after the game. If he really thinks USC was the better team then at least hold your head up and make eye contact. I guess he was staring at the ground to look for his fuggin’ pacifier.

Not as though he had to justify himself, but I think Bush is a class act and no doubt deserved the Heisman. He probably should have bitch slapped Leinhart while he was whining in his high chair.

Without Leinart would USC still have been in the game. I doubt it. I hear all of these people saying that without Young Texas had no chance, well fine if USC took out White would they still have had a chance in this game? Hell no.

While Young was clearly dominant and amazing we cant forget he completed 30 passes and it isnt like he made them passes to himself. His recievers were great, his O-line was great and they helped him be the playmaker he is. We can talk about a bad call here and bad call there but there were bad calls for both sides.

At the end of the day Texas was clearly the better team.

Leinart = no class little bitch

A few observations:

  1. Hook 'em Horns!

  2. I love Reggie Bush, but was he playing rugby? That awful pitch attempt seemed to take him out of the rest of the game - he was not himself after that.

  3. Also on Bush - he steps out of bounds an awful lot for my liking, but I still think he is exceptional.

  4. Seems like everybody on the Texas squad is 6-4, 250 and fast as hell - even the punter.

  5. Texas played physical and the O-line dominated. Young ran through his progressions almost completely unmolested. Manhandling!

  6. Young looked like he was playing backyard football against his 14 year old cousins at a 4th of July barbeque.

  7. Leinart is good, but showed his fragile ego after the loss.

  8. Thomas, the Longhorns’ Tight End, is pure stud.

  9. Lyndel White is a man - what a horse.

I contest that Lienart didn’t really know where he was after that hit he took in the 2nd quarter. Sure, he had a good second half passing, but they never called the long ball in the second half and the majority of his completions were 8 yard camp outs or crossing routes under the zone. And he rarely audibled or checked off. The coaches made things simpler for him and he conferenced with the sidelines much more often that what I had seen in the regular season.

Indicative of someone who can’t really see straight.

Texas got in his earhole and he was tentative to scramble or go deep from that point on.

Him talking shit at the end of the game is what it is… What is he supposed to say? “All praise UT they are the best team in the land and I concede all my competitive spirit and championship title to them because they beat us outright??” Fuck that, if I was in his position I’d be just as pissed off and probably would have said something worse. Fuck that political bullshit, he said what was on his mind and I respect that.

Now, for the sippers (ala RJ)…

The hit on Lienart, Huff’s ability to fly to the ball, the offensive line-play, and obviously the super-human talent and ability of Vince Young stands out in my mind as factors that changed the outcome of the game.

Sprinkle in the fact that USC didn’t want a Willis Mcgehey type injury to happen to Reggie and that they didn’t know what to do on a 60 yard two minute drill (like the Russians not pulling the goalie in the Miracle on Ice) and you have the right recipe for a Texas Victory.

Great game, one for the ages. Congrats to Texas and their fans.

Reggie still deserves the Heisman. Vince deserves the national championship.

It all worked out in the end and the best team won. I just hate the fact that the title is in the Big 12.

I do have a question for the UT fans.

Why were there two players wearing the same number and does that happen a lot?

There were two #4’s, #5’s, and #7’s and I’m sure there were some others.

Just curious.

Yep - It was a wash. So I don’t think any one has a thing to complain about.
The game does still have a HUMAN factor to it.

Hook’m HORNS!

Comments from a Pac-10 guy:

  1. bad defensive job on Vince Young the whole game … should have made him throw the ball every down … a spy (or two)

  2. poor tackling all game long

  3. bad lateral attempt Reggie Bush

  4. bad timeout at the end of Q3

  5. bad 4th and 2 Lendale White dive play with 5 minutes to go

  6. bad defensive job on 4th and 5 at end of Q4

  7. bad use of last timeout with 19 seconds to go to attempt to stop 2 point conversion

i had predicted that SC would lose this year, but i thought it would happen in the regular season to a Pac-10 team

but enough negativity … Texas played well and won the game … Vince Young … what will come of him in the NFL? a receiver?

now i owe someone in Oklahoma a bottle of wine ;(

From another die-hard PAC-10 fan:

Couple other bads (for the officials):

Bad non-call on the Vince Young pitch – two actually, because in addition to the fact his knee was down it looked like a forward lateral.

Bad call on the catch-and-fumble that was ruled an incomplete pass.

Props to the officials for reversing via instant reply on the UT interception in the endzone though – that was a sweet play.

Also, in addition to Vince Young, who was obviously excellent, I thought the Texas tight end, # 19, had a superb game (I was a TE in high school so I always like to see tight ends making catches and running over linebackers).

And I’ll use this platform to complain that USC should have been going for national championship #4 – but for being screwed out of a chance to win it back in 2002 when Carson Palmer was QB. They had an awesome team that year.

Congrats UT – that was one of the best games I’ve ever seen.
