Testosterone Pellet Failure

Hey guys,

So I’ll give u a little background on my situation first and then let me know your thoughts.I’m 27 years old, 6’7" 305 lbs and have been an athlete my entire life. Played pro ball (now retired due to a massive injury). I’ve always been into working out very hard and eating right and have always been very lean for my size naturally. I’ve continued to be roughly 15-17% body fat which isn’t incredible, but decent for strictly lifting, cardio, and a decent diet.

The only supplements I’ve ever taken whey protein, kre-alkaline, pre workout, glutamine, and occasionally a fat burner. I have NEVER taken a pro-hormone, steroids of any nature, or any testosterone booster of any kind.

I’ve had my blood work taken about every other month the last 3 years to keep up on my health (recently had high blood sugar and high blood pressure) but was at 330 lbs. I’ve lost around 25 lbs and no longer have those problems. In all my blood tests, I’ve had dirt low testosterone fluctuating between 106 and 200. The considered average “acceptable” levels are between 250-1100.

I’ve never been able to rectify the problem because even prescribed steroids are still considered banned and not allowed, even in a prescribed theraputic amount. Trust me, I personally contacted the NFL head of drug testing. My body however produced naturally a above average growth hormone which has allowed me to semi combat the effects of low testosterone and keep a semi lean body. I have however been struggling with fatigue, no bedroom desire, and lack of motivation.I am NOT into taking illegal substances, so no buying steroids for me.

My personall doctor advised me to get pellet injection and referred me to one of the best endocrinologists in the country. It’s supposed to be the best and sustain a constant release of testosterone for 5-6 months then requires another injection. They injected me with 10 pellets into my glute. This is the max dose and I was told that it would do wonders! The endocrinologist said it peaks around week 3 and sustains after that.

Well, it’s been over 2 months and I feel ZERO improvement. They did a blood test at week 3 and I was at 360 which he was semi confused as to why it was still low. He said that is not typical at all. After feeling no improvement I went back to my personall doctor and we ran another blood test. My testosterone dropped to 21!!! Yes you read that correctly, 21. Basically non existent and that of a 80 year old. He said he has never seen this in his practice drop that low and especially after only 2 months.

So now I’m switching to Injections. He gave me an injection last week and I already feel a 100 times better! He thinks my body was so test deprived, it soaked up the pellets abnormally fast, stopped what my body was producing naturally…what little it was anyways… And then just shut off. I kept telling the endocrinologist I was feeling nothing and he assured me I was wrong.

Also, after my recent blood test, my estrogen went up to 186. 130 and below is normal. I’ve actually always had higher estrogen on every blood test as well so now I was just prescribed prescription Anastrazole (Arimidex) for anti-estrogen. Hopefully that can rectify some of my problems as well.

My DHEA levels were also DIRT low, so now I’m also taking 100mg morning and 100mg evening. So, in your opinions, why do you suppose my body failed so much on the pellet treatment and reacted the way it did??

I’m now currently taking the testosterone shots, Anastrazole, and DHEA. What else do you suggest I could stack with this to help? I recently purchased a pro-hormone M-1D and EPG Tri-Methyl Xtreme 3.15 stack and will cycle that appropriately.I haven’t started the pro-hormone yet but hopefully that with the testosterone injections and anti-estrogen will yield some solid results.

Stay away from the pro-hormone. They tend to do damage to the HPTA, and yours is already damaged. You’ll see marked improvement from the TRT regimen anyway. Getting your test levels optimal while optimizing estradiol with the anastrozole will give you noticeable gains in the gym. Ask your doctor to add hCG to keep your testes from withering into non-existance. It’s not a pleasant feeling.

His explanation of the pellet failure sounds bogus. Thyroid issues will prevent topical testosterone from being absorbed, but I’m not sure if that would apply to sub-Q pellets?? Maybe someone else can shed some light on that. If you can still feel them in your hip (I could 7 months later), they are still pumping T into your system to some degree.

They insert pellets based on weight, and I got 12 pellets at 220lbs. It put me in the low 500s and didn’t alleviate any of the symptoms. I think I was 28 at the time. I also had some pretty heavy aromatase to E2 from them. Older guys seem to have better luck with testopel.

Read the stickies at the top of the forum (advice for new guys, blood testing, injections protocol, thyroid basics). Post lab work and answer questions on the advice for new guys sticky. Lots of info to be ingested, but it’s all good stuff to know. Who knows, it might even help you figure out why you were so low to begin with.

this is an interesting read.

what were your DHEA levels?
