The Fuck? who reads a movie discussion thread without seeing the movie? Of course there will be spoilers. It’s a discussion thread. It’s not a review thread.

Bale signed on for 3 movies, so hopefully the next 2 don’t suck quite as bad.
Edit: Damn, couple people beat me to it.
Hopefully they don’t make 2 more, imo. One of the major problems with this new movie is the knowledge that, even when the Humans score a huge victory in the end, you know it is ultimately meaningless because the Machines will still develop T-1000s and T-Xes as well as hordes of T-800s. It kind of hurts the dynamic of the movie to know so much about how things will play out. I can’t imagine them sustaining 2 movies from here. Unless they pulled a Matrix and made the next 2 movies essentially a part 1 and part 2 sequence of events. Releasing them within months of one another.
But really, the next movie should deal with the final assault against Skynet, the real end of the war. As talked about since the beginning of the franchise.

maybe people looking to discuss the movie without knowing all the details. Just a thought.
Or to read reviews of it.

Well, in order to do that, you’ll have to see them send back Reese, send back the second T-800, have John Connor assassinated by the third T-800, have Catherine Brewster reprogram that T-800 and send them back. Which begs the question… if they have time travel, after the T-800 assassinates John Connor, why not just go back in time to right before he assassinates him ( travel back what 10 minutes?) and prevent it? Since we like sending people back in time and all.
Bottom line…after Cameron gave up the franchise it got thrown into the dump. I wish we could have seen what he would have done with a T-3.
I think a lot of these issues could be cured if Skynet was developed more as a character. There seems to be a very large disconnect with how ruthless Skynet is painted as being compared to how seemingly ineffectual they are with their schemes and robot designs. Some added element of motivation or explanation for why/how Sknet thinks could help quite a bit I think.
As for Terminator time travel. It’s gotten more and more difficult to maintain as the series progresses. Just kind of have to accept it I guess.

If I care about seeing a movie, a discussion thread on the internet is the last place I’d ever want to be. Even with spoilers being demarcated, the likelihood that I will inadvertently read one or otherwise infer details I’d rather not know is greatly higher than if I had just not clicked on the thread to begin with.
Why risk it? why put myself in that position for the comparatively smaller likelihood that I will divine any greater impetus to see the movie based on what people are saying about. Because, if I cared about the movie enough to be so wrecked about spoilers, I’ve already made up my mind that I’m going to see it.

Agree 100% with the character development of SkyNet. I don’t want anything given away but I’d like a brief glimpse at what they’re up to. The obvious “extermination of the human race” aside, I wonder what their long term objective is.
Say they succeed in wiping every human off the face of Earth, which seemingly they’ve applied all their efforts towards…they’d suddenly become bereft of purpose. How are they going to spend their days? Are the T-800’s going to play solitaire and eat Fig Newtons? SkyNet has deemed human existence to be a plague…something to be eradicated…how are they going to improve upon it?

SPOILER ALERT*
A freaking heart transplant? In the middle of a MASH unit? And Marcus just happened to be typed for Connor? Maybe I am overly sensitive to it because we do transplants at my hospital, but it seemed very very silly to me. Here we are, living in post-apocalyptic america where they are eating COYOTE and haven’t had a shower in 8 years, but they can do a heart transplant in a tent. Yeah.
It sucks, because now I know that will be the last of the Terminator movies, and it sucks to end it on such a quiff.
SPOILER—
Dude, you’re answering your own question…post-apocalyptic America…eating coyote…etc. I think its safe to say that if John Connor is the “messiah” of the Resistance and is obviously dying, you would exhaust every chance to keep him alive. Its no more far-fetched than replicating human tissue onto a robot…or time travel.

Yeah, I know what kind of thread it is. I started it. Did you miss the first post where the spoiler alert rule was mentioned? We ask this because not everyone can see the movie on opening night and would still like to participate in the discussion.
Some like to read the thread and see whether or not the movie is liked by those that have seen it already. Labeling a post with SPOILER ALERT allows one to simply skip past it until they’ve seen it.
Why is respecting that such an issue for you?
Seriously, is this the first time you’ve posted in a movie discussion thread here?
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
Tell me that wasn’t ACTUALLY the plot?

That’s fine, but not everyone else here does that. That’s why we ask for spoiler alert warnings for the first few days.

What did you say was the plot at the front of this thread? Go ahead and put a spoiler thing around it, and nobody who hasn’t seen the movie read it.

I think I said something to the effect of John Connor having actually been dead for some time and the John Conner in the movie was a Skynet Cyborg who was coming to terms with the fact that he was little more than a trojan horse.

This is exactly why I choose to stay out of these threads until I have seen the movie. You never know when some asshole(in this case, me) will come along, not read the first post, and assume the thread is for people who already seen the movie. It’s just too big of a risk, internet forums and movie discussion.
For the record, I am sorry that I didn’t put a spoiler tag in my post. It is unfortunate when these things happen. I made an assumption about the nature of the thread, and it was wrong.
SPOILER
I agree about the heart transplant thing, and the end of the movie in general.
They could have come up with a million non-cheesy ways for Marcus to die and sacrifice himself for John, but they chose a silly one.
That said, I’m still not sure how I feel about having Marcus die at all. Like I said, he could have been a really cool addition to future movies; however, I guess maybe it’s a good thing as it will keep Connor the focus of the films, as it was intended.
Although I thought the action scenes were really cool, I would have liked to see a bit more plot, involving Skynet’s plans, studying the terminators, etc., and more with Christian Bale.
One gripe I had: Skynet’s plot was to bring John Connor in so it could kill him by using Reese as bait. So John comes, and it sends ONE T-800 to kill him? At this point Skynet knows full well that Marcus, who is at least equivalent to a T-800 is intending to help John, not to mention that John is pretty badass himself… I dunno, it seems like for a ruthless AI hell bent on destroying the leader of the human resistance, a single T-800 doesn’t seem quite appropriate.
Not that this bothered me, but did anyone notice that “Arnold”'s legs were a lot bigger than Arnold’s actually were? ![]()
While I loved that this movie was much darker than T3, I kind of hope that they abduct a terminator or something in the future movies lol, as I always enjoy the human/machine relationships.
Even though I have certain gripes about it, and it didn’t necessarily live up to my expectations (I was hoping for Dark Knight levels of awesome), I still really enjoyed it, and I think the series still has a ton of potential.
I’d give it a solid 8/10… to further the batman comparison, I thought Batman Begins was only about a 7/10, with the Dark Knight being a perfect 10… so I have hope that the first movie in a series doesn’t mean the others will be exponentially better.
I didn’t think it sucked.
I know I’ll get beaten and raped for this, but what do you guys like about Christian Bale?? He’s a younger version of Harrison Ford. Wooden faced and boring. He was decent in 3:10 to Yuma, but I just wanted him to get off the screen in Batman and in Terminator. I dont’ think there’s one line he delivers in Terminator that he doesn’t scream.
Did anyone else catch the extreme close-up on his massive tricep about 20-30 minutes into the film where he’s reading some computer screen or something?
SPOILERS
These minor ‘glitches’ didn’t ruin the movie for me, but I found it difficult to get over them:
-
The hot chick that crashes her airplane has the whitest teeth I’ve ever seen…how is this possible in a post-apocalyptic world? They eat coyote, but have toothpaste?
-
The cyborg developed an Australian accent halfway through the film. It wasn’t in every scene, but fairly frequently you can hear it.
-
Agree with CoreyK’s gripe about SkyNett only sending 1 terminator to get Connor.
-
When Connor takes out the motorcycle terminator while GNR plays…he does it sooooooooooooooo easily…I know he’s John Connor, but using nothing but a boom box, a piece of rope, a dead car to hide behind and a screwdriver he takes out a futuristic killing machine without breaking a sweat. I understand T1 and T2 had some campy moments in them and maybe this scene was trying to be a nod in that direction, but it didn’t work for me.
-
During Connor’s fight scene with Arnold there’s 3 scenes where Connor is thrown from one level of the skynett catwalks to another, but then in the next scene he’s back to where he was before he was thrown.
-
The cyborg has to go through a ‘scan’ before he can enter the Skynett compound…we never see Connor go through this, or see how he avoids it. One minute he’s on the terminator motorcyle, then he’s climbing through the bridge, then he’s inside…
-
The I’ll Be Back line from Connor blew…bad timing and delivery in my opinion.
Basically, my gripes are that it appeared to me that the film makers were lazy.
What I did like:
-
The machines were all pretty cool especially the Giant Terminator type thing that attacks the gas station.
-
Kyle Reese and the cyborg were cool.
-
The movie succeeded in allowing you to suspend disbelief and believe the events could really hapen.
I’m an ancient 38. I’m pretty sure if I was 14-24 I would have thought this movie was pretty effing cool all around.

This one I can answer. When Marcus breaks into the facility he disables the giant turret that scanned him, allowing Connor to access undetected.
MODOK wrote:
Sorry man, but it was just goofy. Really goofy. I guess it left the original successful skeleton of the Terminator movies behind…you know, people running from an unstoppable murdering robot. I know they had to, but you have to have something more to go on than post-apocalyptic misery. Thats been done before (all the Mad Max movies, Waterworld, Postman, etc.) Its just boring now.
Totally agree with MODOK.
SPOILER
My biggest issue was the disconnect in the story line. It wasn’t “intimate,” i.e. you didn’t feel a connection to any one character. I couldn’t tell if Marcus was the most pivotal, John Connor or Kyle Reese. There was just a lot of action but, even then, most of the sequences we had seen in the trailers! I fucking hate that Hollywood does that! Leave something to surprise us, for God’s sake.
Anyone notice the trailer shot with Bale in the water (in some tunnel) and being surprised by a robot from behind, was NOT in the movie itself? At least, I am sure it wasn’t.
I’m trying to recall the scene with Kyle where he looks out he window at the internment camp. Do you mean when he’s already in the cell or when he is being taken there in the floating transport?
I wanted to see more of the last Terminator. He looked like a special model or something. And yes, they REALLY need to develop the Skynett (character) more.
