Ten Years Trapped in Your Own Head?

A man was mistakenly thought to be in a coma for ten years, but was actually paralyzed and couldn’t communicate.

I am pretty sure I would have gone 100% batshit crazy.

It was for 23 years, Fraggle.

"A man who emerged from what doctors thought was a vegetative state says he was fully conscious for 23 years but could not respond because he was paralyzed, his mother said Monday.

Rom Houben, 46, had a car crash in 1983 and doctors thought he had sunk into a coma. His family continued to believe their son was conscious and sought further medical advice."

Crazy shit, nonetheless. I can’t even imagine what that would be like.

Yeah, I was typing while talking on the phone, and was asked about a ten year amortization. I noticed it just after hitting submit.

Really though, I would probably be just as crazy after ten as I would have at 23.

Holy fuck. That is like a House episode… honestly I don’t see how anyone can not go crazy…

I’ve actually had a plan ready in case this should ever happen to me. I learned how to meditate a long time ago, and, if stripped of the ability to do pretty much anything else… well, it sure would simplify things.

On a more light-hearted note, imagine not having any sexual stimulation for 23 years. Not only no porn or poon, but no beating it either.

what about eating? no solid food for two decades.

FAWK

Wow, that is crazy.

I can’t even imagine how horrible it must have been for him.

Poor soul… Such a fate sounds like something out of the worst nightmare. Reminds me of the song One by Metallica.

Horrific…

Thats why I have a living will.

Their was a pretty wealthy editor in France that had a similar thing happen. Instead of being completely paralyzed, he could move his left eyelid, and only his left eyelid, but was completely conscience of everything going on around him.

The crazy thing is that he wrote a story about his experience, titled “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly”. A nurse would slowly go through the entire alphabet and he would blink once when she got to the letter that he wanted, then she would start all over again for the next letter and so on to form words, then sentences, and eventually an entire book.

It is actually a very good book which was eventually turned into a very good foreign film. If any of you are interested look up “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly”.

that is umm… wow

that must be what hell feels like.

crazy shit

I will read that book, both of them.

Think the nurse ever cut him some slack and guessed the rest of the word or made him go right to the last letter of words like Mississipi? I can just imagine FCK PLEASE JUST GUESS. PLEASE FCK!
