I never got to do BMX. My knees were already too old for a 20" wheel. But I loved watching them ride at my local bike park. I use to buy a case of PBR’s and ice it down for the guys at the park. Yes I know some were only 16 so arrest me already they only got 2, haha.
I cut my mtn bike teeth on Colorado ski resorts down hill, the Fruita Fat Tire Festival, to slick rock in Moab Utah. A Colorado mtn biker does not need cardios at the gym, haha I built this 7" suspension down hill bike from eBay parts. Cost me about $7000 in 2007.
I was a kid of the '80s with South Park BMX track within bike riding distance (wasn’t everything?) and some actual “forbidden” trails and jumps at the slag dumps. Kids were legit getting life flighted out of that place! It was RAD! Haha!
Here’s me & kiddo on the front street before he got the training wheels off.
My cardio is on hold for a little while, but I’ll be out hitting the trails a little more soon enough. There’s a good bit of variety locally (western pa) from rail trails to “nobody actually rides that, do they?”.
I was 27 in 1980 and had just moved to Colorado. Dam that John Denver song.
Is this your son? Great picture. I have a Grand son just a little older then him.
Ah so PA. I was born in Youngstown OH and have an Aunt and Uncle in PA just across the state line. PA has some beautiful rolling hills for bike riding and the fall colors are the best.
Oh, that’s just a hop and a skip away. I like to head up that way a few times a year to hit the Neshannock creek in Volant and Hell run at McConnells Mill.
Naw, I had a sprocket “tat” on the back of my shin for years. I think my dragon covers it now. I had many crashes and unfortunate incidents on bikes. So many that I don’t even know where the tat came from.
