I was just wondering if there are any other Buddhists that hang around here. Every once in a while I see a comment that makes me think there may be quite a few of us.
I’m a buddhist among other things.
Does a dog have Buddha-nature?

Such as?
I’m not a practicing Buddhist (or really, anything else for that matter), but I do have alot of respect for much of Buddhism’s philosphy over most of the other systems.

Rather not say because the internet is the last place I want to defend/explain myself.
I agree with much of Buddhist philoshophy, but would not consider myself a Buddhist.
I just went to see the Dalai Lama in Denver and he was amazing. I really like his outlook on life and strive to live by his words.
In the words of the Dalai Lama: “My religion is kindness.”
I am casually dipping my feet into it, reading up and such…

The Dalai Lama was born on my birthday.

OK, was just curious. Didn’t mean to pry.

http://www.accesstoinsight.org is a good resource if you’re interested. I find the majority of books out there summarize the teachings without actually presenting the original texts, but you find lots of translated Sutras on that website as well as ‘guided tours’

Not a problem.

I’ve studied every major world religious tradition and found them basically identical. All are “the human religion”.
Like the headwaters of many streams is the human condition, at the summit of a mountain. Flowing down are many rivers, each unique in its context in space and time. But all carry the same water.
I am not Bhuddist but I was raised on Hindu priciples, that were almost the same.
We were raised vegetarians and were made to study Hindi scripture like the Bhagavad Gita.
I cant say I am practicing it now, as far as vegetarianism is concerned but apply the virtues of kindness and compassion in my life when I can.
It is a pretty intense way of life if you choose the path of the Bhuddah
I identify heavily with being mahayana buddhist (I was born and raise reform Jewish) … I saw HH the Dalai Lama speak a couple weeks ago, truly one of the highlights of my young life so far
I think buddhism goes along very well with the ‘hardcore’ spirit … insofar that we abandon our temporary comfort to gain greater strength.
Maybe I’m over philosophising this a bit. But yeah, I think buddhism works really well alongside the discipline of being a lifter.
A funny joke…
Q. Why are there Buddhists?
A. Because nobody listened to Buddha.

I find that when the body is healthy, the mind functions better as well.
I’m a Diamond Way practicioner of the Karma Kagyu lineage. My lama is Lama Ole Nydahl. He’s definetly a t-man. Former boxer back in his youth. Strong alpha male type that loves the ladies, fast cars, and motorcycles!
I do have to disagree with the idea that all ‘religions’ are basically the same. There are definetly some basic ideas that are the same. Be kind to others and all that. Still, when you really look at many of them, the goals and methods can be drastically diferent.
I am agnostic but practice buddhism

If that keeps your attention on this path you’ve chosen, please continue to believe as such.
