Syria, Here We Go Again

“The convenience” may be an oil line through all the territories.

That’s a good thing for stability in the region. For one, they are expensive and require a lot of work to build and maintain. By nature, you use local people. People who are gainfully employed are generally too busy to kill other people.

Second, pipelines are very easy to blow up. In fact, they sometimes blow up all on their own (e…g, MA or CT or whereever that was). This requires peace and stability in the region, so people will be very motivated to settle things down.

That’s a win for the people of Syria.

Don’t disagree, @thefourthruffian

But it’s the Middle East. There is a history (and not just ancient) of peoples doing a lot of things that go contrary to their self-interest.

Which one? Everyone in the ME is acting out of their self-interest.

Again, each side in the ME (except ISIS, as they’re taking a 7th century book literally) has a perfectly rational argument why they’re behaving the way they’re behaving.

It’s just that their rationale is unsettling to your (not your personally) sensibilities and is therefore considered “crazy”.
