Austere isn’t that obscure of a word, nor is it negative. It would describe many different types of people, and many religious types might even consider it complimentary.
The Amish are austere. Jesus was austere. Monks are austere. We admire austere men in cinema all the time.

A claim of great grades is what you come back with? What are you, in sixth grade? Going to brag about your PSAT next? Maybe your bench or deadlift? This is the Internet; you are nothing but electrons and ideas here. So are we all.
Suggestion for the future: when you can be so squarely mocked with a meme, perhaps you should laugh and move on.

Agree 100%. Ascetic is a similar word, and definitely considered complimentary the great majority of the time.
(I just googled austere for kicks, and yes, instead of a definition, one gets…)

There is irony in educated grownups equating sarcasm with satire.
It is also not inherently positive. When it is used to describe a religious fundamentalist terrorist, I don’t see how anyone would think it’s supposed to reflect positively on him. There is this thing called context.

Also, my post contained a joke that you wouldn’t get because it wasn’t meant for you. Suggestion for the future: mind your own business.

My issue with the meme is how the first question is wrong and ruins the joke. You could say I have a complex about things like that.
He’s just being a snowflake. Yeah, I get it, it was a joke directed at me so I simply made a joke back. But of course, since he has tunnel vision, my joke wasn’t really a joke and had to be serious. I am familiar with the fourthruffian via his posts over the years and I know he isn’t a baby about things like my post (or a baby about anything for that matter) and won’t take it as seriously as Jewbacca who is obviously more woke than I.

It’s not that I would want somebody to fight in my stead. The military, being as old as I am, after 2 back surgeries wouldn’t touch me if I begged.
The only job I could get in the military, age wise, is Commander in Chief, but I was not born on U.S. soil, so I couldn’t do that either.
If you can find allowable dates older than listed here than I am listening, but I doubt they would accept me for health reasons.
Jewbacca is not new to anything. He’s been here way longer than most. He doesn’t suffer fools gladly.

Sure acting like he is. It’s one of the most overused memes on the planet, and he proceeds to make comments that would REALLY make it seem like he hasn’t seen it used before.
Personally, I love the style of that meme. I’ve easily seen 50 different iterations of it.

It isn’t totally accurate either. I joined in 1998, my profile says 2002. That’s when the forums became a thing, so I think that’s as far as they can go…
