Brett McGurk, who resigned as the presidential special envoy to the coalition against ISIS last December, told The Daily Beast on Sunday that such a move by the Syrian Kurds was predictable under the circumstances.
Since McGurk’s resignation, he has stayed in touch with the members of the SDF and some contacts in the U.S. departments of state and defense. He says the Kurds asked repeatedly if the support and protection of the United States could be relied upon, and they were told repeatedly that the Americans had their backs.
Well, I don’t know what your on about, since I changed my position way up there ^^. I do support one hand washing the other and since the Kurds did us a favor, we should do them a solid as well.
The question is, what is the best course of action and if it’s purely military, what is the line in the sand for ending that action?
The issues precede us and will continue beyond our our time of engagement ends. That is unless, the Jihad-loving arm of militant islam has a change of heart sometime soon and I don’t see that happening.
There are waivers out the ass you would most likely be able to qualify for to get a non combat position. Every role in the military helps spin the machine.
It’s also alright to just say things like this are worth OTHER people’s lives to you, but not your own. Millions of Americans would share that sentiment
Well, off the top of my head two things are “don’t give Erdogan a green light to invade Northern Syria” and “do not resurrect ISIS”.
But since the POTUS has shown that he’s a third rate amateur bluffer when it comes to foreign policy, even medium sized dictators are wiping the floor with him. What can he say or do now that everybody knows Trump bluffs? Just wait a day or two until the tweetstorm passes and he’s back to Hillary…
Apparently he was trapped in a dead-end tunnel by either Special Forces or Seals, dragging 3 kids with him as shields. He then blew himself and the kids up via a suicide vest he was wearing.
Will SOMEBODY please tell me why Trump cannot just leave well enough alone?
There is a successful raid…he reads a nice, prepared statement (which President Obama did when Bin Laden was killed)…but then he has to get into his “ad-lib” act, where he:
Thanks the Russians (but not the Kurds); and
Gets into this bullshit about if people had just read his book prior to 9/11…where he supposedly “predicted” 9/11…everything now would be so much different.
I’ve known this for while; but every time he opens his mouth he simply confirms (to me) his insanity.
(By the way…I was prepared to let the man bask in “his” victory…but he just couldn’t leave well enough alone. So keep your “you just don’t want to recognize his accomplishments” to yourself).
After seeing the media backlash over Trump’s folding to Erdogan, the Turks decided to hand him an easy win to make the US withdrawal more palatable - “ok, can you fuck off now from our newly conquered lands?”.
I thought you might be interested in this quote from the WP. “austere religious scholar” . an odd way to describe one of the most sadistic pieces of filth to ever walk this earth, a “leader” of a murderous and vicious killer army, whose only purpose in life was the rape, torture, and kill as many people as they could. To burn pilots and gays alive, to behead captives for the glory of YouTube.
I have personally seen the murderous filth of ISS. 'Austere Religious Scholar". Unbelievable.
Technically, the headline is accurate. He was an austere religious scholar as he had a PhD in Islamic studies and austere is not necessarily a compliment. I don’t think we should get angry at facts.
I know some read that headline and think it downplays what he did or something but, another way to look at it is to see what has been called the banality of evil. This guy was an unassuming religious nerd who was unfit for Iraqi military service yet he eventually becomes a bloodthirsty monster. There is a lesson there.
