Interesting bit of info I found out at lunch today, I don’t know if any of you have heard this.
My buddies girlfriend lives in Connecticut, she called him at lunch today and said they closed her college because there was 2 confirmed cases of Swine Flu, one of which was in her housing unit.
Last I heard it was in Mexico, now it’s in Connecticut? AHHH!
holy shit, wtf, seriously?
Ok, I think its time to start worrying.
…or you could wash your hands, be more sanitary overall, quit coughing on other people, stop wiping your nose and then wiping the boogers on your shirt and then shaking someone else’s hand. Then again, we could all just panic and flail our arms around. That always works.
haha true X, I just think it’s kid of concerning that last I heard it was in mexico and now it’s all the way up north. Hopefully it didn’t follow a straight path of infection on the way up there lol
I am truly shocked that the border hasn’t been shut down as of yet. Obama mentioned in his press conference that it would be similar to closing the barn door after the animals have left. Bullshit. By limiting the number of people who have it from entering areas that are not afflicted by it, you stop the spread a great deal. Communicable disease + travel or movement = more sick people than needed.

he really said that? How foolish. Closing the border would be the most obvious and first thing to do IMO.
Also, just for fun. If any of you want to see how much of the world you could infect with the Swine Flu I recommend this game.
I worry that my school is going to shut down. I go to University of Delaware, and barely an hour ago I got a text from the alert system to tell us that they had confirmed 4 of the swine flu cases, and they have another 12 cases that are at/being sent to the CDC. Even if half of those are false, that’s still 10 cases of Swine Flu JUST at the University of Delaware. To put this in perspective, Governator called for a state of emergency when the whole state of California had 10 confirmed cases.
My FE certification rides on my graduating this semester, as does my grad school admission, and Obama said that they’d have to consider shutting down an institution where there were significant numbers of infections.

Fuck you, swine flu.
Word. I go to the University of South Carolina, and in the upstate south carolina, the high school in my home town just got shut down. Lots of people here go home every weekend, I can see how easily this stuff could be spread. Especially during finals, everyone gets stressed and their immune systems get weak to boot.

But it is much more fun to panic and fantasize about shutting down the borders and living in a police state than washing your hands.

Social faux-pas in an elevator yesterday. Dude walks in with a face mask.
Cowboy: “So is that for allergies or swine flu?”
Face mask dude: “I`ve got cancer.”
I thought he was kidding around. I chuckle. He doesn`t reply.
Cowboy: “Oh shit. You serious mate?”
Dude: “Yes.”
Cowboy:
Felt real bad about that one…
LOL, don’t feel bad man. Whether they admit it or not I’m sure everyone on T-Nation has had at least one situation where they wished they could have put their foot in their mouth.

Yeah, a definite foot-in-mouth moment, mate.
Several of my friends found the story hilariously funny. One suggested I should send it to Cyanide and Happiness – http://www.explosm.net/comics/43/
I will pass on the above though I am a huge fan of C&H.
The CDC classified this infection as Level 4 or whatever. Essentially they have declared that containment strategies are no longer an option as they would not work. Closing the border would do nothing at this point.
