Sweet Potato Chips

How long do you bake them in the oven and at what temperature? I’ve searched online and found anywhere from 200- 400 degrees and 20 minutes to 3 hours!

what works best?

Sorry I have no idea (useful huh?), but I’d love to hear how they came out and what your recipe is (will be, w.e) when you eventually try them out. I was curious about trying to make some myself a week ago.

I make sweet potato fries in the oven all the time.

Slice sweet potatoes to about 1/4"x1/4"xthe length of the root
lay them out on a roasting pan
drizzle with EVOO
sprinkle liberally with sea salt, black pepper and garlic powder
roast at 450 degrees for 30-45 minutes

just check on them periodically until they start to look crispy around the edges

Sounds good. Is the EVOO essential? It sounds like its needed, but what would you suggest to keep the fat for this recipe as low as possible?

When I say drizzle, I mean just enough to touch each ‘fry’, definitely don’t drown them…probably no more than 1-2 tbs for an entire pan full. Generally you want some kind of fat when roasting veggies, but if you had to do without…maybe spray the roasting pan down with a fat free baking spray before cooking? I think you can even find one in an olive oil flavor that might do the trick.

Thanx, this is something I have to try out sometime.

The Garlic Powder doesn’t ruin the naturally sweet taste of Sweet Potatoes?

And, I’m trying your recipe tomorrow; tired of Brown Rice.

Not at all, sweet potatoes take savory seasonings VERY well(pumpkin does also), it creates a very nice balance of sweet and savory. Also try some sprigs of rosemary laid across the sweet potatoes, awesome awesome stuff. If you’re worried about the seasonings over powering the tubers, season in this order: sea salt, a little less black pepper, a little less garlic powder.

Wow. That sounds awesome and I’ll be making those soon. Thanks!

my local hippie health food store sells home-made baked sweet potato chips. I swear they sprinkle crack on them cause I can’t just eat one. One bag I mean. Thanks for the recipe

The chicken and beer can recipe from mr. Shugs works also very well with those kind of potatoes - stick the chicken in the middle of the pan and fill the bottom with potato slices. Beer seems to flavour the chips very nicely.

Mmmm. Beer…

OMG, I just made those fries and they are to die for…
