Supplements to Help Me

Often,it feels like i’m walking through a haze for the 3 hours after i wake up in the morning. I have massive bags under my eyes and generally feel like crap. Just wondering if anyone can suggest any supps other than standard stimulants to alleviate these symptoms.

I was thinking perhaps a nootropic stack would help some.

What’s your diet like right now… what supplements are you already on?

I don’t know if this applies to you whatsoever, but I stopped eating starchy carbs about a year ago, and feel a lot better. I think I was becoming diabetic or pre-diabetic. In the morning I would eat a big omelette and a few pieces of toast, and I’d want to go back to sleep after eating. I thought I was eating correctly… dinner might be a piece of broiled meat, a baked potato and a big serving of corn or peas.

I felt like crap and I looked terrible. Since cutting out starchy carbs I’ve lost a bunch of weight (fat) and I feel more alert. When I get out of bed, I am awake (used to take me until noon to really be totally alert). Lately I can handle carbs better, and I have medium carb meals occasionally, trying to keep my metabolism guessing. But if I eat a lot of carbs all day long, the next day I feel like crap - no energy and no motivation.

This may not apply to you, but maybe examine your diet and think about what might be working or not working. Maybe try eliminating bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, crackers (etc) for a couple of days, and see what you think. That’s just a wild guess, based on my own experience.

(I would never suggest that everyone should eat the way I do, and this is in reaction to a fairly recent - and unwelcome - change in my metabolism. Believe me, I miss eating baked potatoes and toast. But I don’t miss falling asleep at the table).

Check your sleeping habits for length and quality.

If one were to take a supplement to counter morning groggy-ness, that would be equivalent to putting a wrap on a wound rather than treating it.

Checking the carbs is good, I’d do that first. Could be overtraining, but that is usually the whole day. If you use ANY stim supps stop now, get good rest and recover from them for about 2 weeks, if you use any now that will help for sure. Food and sup ideas? Add some good fats in the am. I was testing out a bulking diet, that worked pretty good, but I mistakingly put simple carbs in the am w high protein. Start by cutting all carbs from your breakfast, or just keeping a few (fruit, if anything).

Something I have been doing now for 6 months seems to work pretty good with me waking up. Wake up after a sleep cycle. I’m your typical, sleep deprived college student and this works great. If you dont know anything about sleep cycles, I’ll make it simple. When you go to bed check the clock and think about when you’ll wake up. Next, find they time between then and now. What you want is to wake up after 90 minute intervals have passed, plus 15 minutes to fall asleep. Basically, if you have 8 hours, set the clock for 7 hrs, 45 minutes. If you have 7 hours, wake up 6 hrs 15 minutes later… Works wonders for me, hope I helped a little.

As mentioned before, I would you look to your quality of sleep to solve your problems. Make sure your room is as dark as you can get it, try limiting food to 2 hours before you go to sleep, make sure it’s at a good sleeping temp (68 degs). Also, there are two supplements that Biotest sells, ZMA, which is mainly for recovery but is also known to help with sleep, and Z-12 which is primarily a sleep aid that has received tremendous reviews.

Check out the recovery sleep section in the Biotest store, and look up optimal sleeping environments on Google so you can pimp out your room for some high quality sleep.

Are you overweight? Ever been checked for sleep apnea?

A shower in the morning works wonders, i can’t leave the house with out one or i feel like i don’t wake up properly all day.

When I take theanine before bed I feel pretty awake the next day and can jump out of bed a lot easier, not as effective lately, could be the brand… could be that i’ve got used to it.

Could also be from too much or little sleep or from other supplements you are using. Post them up what you take.

I started taking acetyl l-carnitine & my brain fog cleared up. Don’t know if it’ll help you, if you’re really only experiencing it in the first 3 hours of the morning it may be more of a sleep issue.
