Superbowl?

Too bad the Superbowl is more about marketing than it is about a good game. It’s the only sport where the team with the best record does not get homefield advantage in the playoffs including the championship game. It really takes away from what the game is about. That’s why the playoffs are always the best games of the year, not the Superbowl. Unless your team is in it, the Superbowl is not very exciting.

The home field advantage in the World Series is determined by which league wins the All Star Game, not by overall record.

With Week 15 over, there are now four 8-6 teams in the AFC and four 7-7 teams right behind them in the Wild Card race. There are two 7-7 teams and five 6-8 teams still alive in the NFC for the final spot behind Philly. It’s going to be an interesting finish.

Super Bowl: Chicago 24 New England 23

Just in case any citizens of Steeler Nation are insane like me and still think the Stillers have a shot at the playoffs, here’s how they can make it:

Beat BAL and CIN, AND:

NYJ loss to MIA OR OAK

AND 1 of 2 scenarios -

1)JAC loss to NE AND KC
AND
DEN loss to CIN AND SF
OR
2)CIN loss to DEN
AND
JAC loss to NE AND KC

PIT will have the six seed behind either DEN or CIN, because they have a better W/L % against common opponents (fourth tiebreaker).

I think the Jets are definitely capable of blowing another winnable game. They have only beaten 1 decent team all year. Denver isn’t going anywhere with Cutler this year, so they might as well lay down and die. Jacksonville has a tough road ahead with NE at home and then travelling to Arrowhead.

Possible, but not likely.

San Diego over Chicago. Blowout.

Damn, no love for the Cowboys? Hottest team in the NFC. 6-2 behind Romo. These guys are on a serious roll. The NO and Redskin games were a fluke (especially the Redskin game). Top rated QB (#2 behing Manning), RB (Barber #2 in TD’s), and WR (T.O. #1 in TD’s). #4 overall total offense in NFL. Defense is #11 in total yards, but only about 50 yards/game behind #1 (Ravens).

Three of the Cowboys losses came before Romo was a starter. He’s 6-2 as a starter, and should be 7-1 (that 15 yard facemask on the last kickoff against the Redskins was BS). Being a fan, I can tell the 'Boys haven’t been this confident since the Aikman/Smith/Irvin days.

I was at the Falcon’s game this weekend. Although the game was close, you could just tell the Cowboys had the advantage and a win was never in doubt.

Ohio State would make the playoffs in the NFC this year. The Cowboys are hot, but they have an atrocious pass defense. The thought of them matching up with San Diego is frightening.

Dallas gets no love because they have a young, still unproven QB, a complete cocksucker for a #1 WR, and an inconsistent D.

Yes, I know you are joking. But the AFC has good teams and really bad teams. The NFC is full of solid teams that just keep beating each other. Kind of like the SEC in college (Auburn and LSU didn’t even play for the SEC Champ). Yes, Dallas has issues on D, but they are still strong. How many rushing yards did Atlanta (NFL team rushing leader) get on Dallas? Not much. Once Dallas made the switch to stop the pass in the second half it was game over.

Yes, TO is an idiot who I hope finds another team next year.

I’m still picking Dallas in the Superbowl.

7-2 and about a half point behind Manning in NFL QB rating and he’s still “unproven”. How many games does he have to win to be “proven”?

Agree about T.O. I can’t believe people wear his jersey. I consider them bandwagon fans. Lifelong Cowboys are embarassed to have him on the team. He doesn’t even have the talent to back up his mouth. Unprofessional and ignorant.

There are MAYBE two “solid” teams in the NFC. The Bears (who are disintegrating) and either Dallas or New Orleans.
I don’t buy the SEC argument for the SEC, so I sure as hell ain’t buying it for the NFC. The NFC North and NFC West are awful. The AFC is so much stronger overall it is not even funny. 8-8 could win SF the NFC West. 8-8 in the AFC and you go home for the winter.

I’m a lifelong Cowboys fan but I have to agree with Steel Nation as much as it hurts. I might put the Cowboys in the NFC championship game but I don’t see them in the superbowl. NO destroyed them and showed up their pass defense.

Roy williams is a huge hitter and they have a good run defense but he gets caught out of position all too often. Romo is unproven until he wins some playoff games and I still think their O-Line is suspect. San Diego is just too good this year. Still the Cowboys may make a good run into the playoffs. But win the Superbowl? No way. and TO is a cocksucker-- He’s a freakin head case.

First, I’m really glad you’re not a TO supporter, or this would get real ugly, real fast. TO talks, causes problems, and drops balls. Just when I think I can’t respect him any less, he spits in someone’s face.

Second, the disparity between teams with winning records vs. the opposing conference is pretty wide. Only two NFC teams have a winning record against AFC teams. Dallas is one of those, so maybe I didn’t give them enough credit. But, there are 10 AFC teams that are 3-1 or better against the NFC.

Third, Romo is playing extremely well right now. But please realize, as a Steeler fan I can still remember the flashes of brilliance that Kordell Stewart showed before he started to really suck. Hell, Tommy Maddox looked great for a few years. Now they’re both out of football. Now, hopefully Romo doesn’t go down that road, but he hasn’t been good long enough to say he’s “proven.” If he keeps this level of play up for another season, then he can earn that title.

Exactly. There are 2 dogs in the AFC: Oakland and Houston (unless they’re playing Jacksonville). The NFC is loaded with them. The entire AFC West and North except for CHI are absolutely horrible. SF is improving, but they are still shit. SEA is the worst division winner in the past 10 years. The South has one good team, NO, who is 1-3 against the AFC, only beating Cleveland. ATL is schizophrenic, depending on whether Michael Vick decides to show up or stay at home and play Madden '04. The East is really the only division with two solid teams, in DAL and PHI, who are a combined 4-4 against the AFC. Then you have the Jints and Skins, who are both pretty shitty, the Giants .500 record notwithstanding.

Basically, the AFC is THE conference in the NFL now.

As a native Whale’s Vaginaian I may be a little biased, but we have a hell of a team this year and after coming back against Cincinatti, we’re never out of a game.

With a crazy good front 7 and the best offense in the NFL, I really don’t know who can beat us, except MAYBE Baltimore if they get lucky again (Damn you Steve). Anyone who’d be able to pass on us (ie. the Colts) we’d run all over.
Not to mention we have the best player Marty’s ever seen (and he said that includes Jim Brown if I’m not mistaken).

Oh yeah, and the only NFC team with a shot is NO if they ride my boy Brees all the way there.
