Sunglasses?

I bought a pair of sunglasses 2 years ago at Rite-Aid for $10. Polarized and UV protection.

Great for driving, ww rafting, and fishing.

Silly me.

Maui Jims are awesome. I tried them on in Hawaii, and could look directly at the sun and hardly squint at all.

They are a bit expensive, though. I work on the water, though, so they’re well worth it.

I’ve got the “Offshore” style, they’re $179.00USD online. I use them for sailing. They’re not something I would wear out on the town, when I’m all cleaned up nice, but they’re great for sports, and have good peripheral vision, and stay on when the boom knocks your head.

oakley “gascan s” are great…nice and comfy and good protection

Animal Sunglasses - look good and they are in budget - maybe something to consider?

I own a pair of Ray Bans as well. I like them better and they are more comfortable than the Oakley’s I had.

I bought a pair of high end Prada sunglasses and while they were expensive, I’ve never owned anything that was as nice to look at, fit as well, and was as functional (in terms of protection) as these.

My strategy is always spend the dough on the things you use most.

If price is of no concern, be sure and check out Maui Jim’s before you buy something else.

Cat Nip, the only way to get better UV protection that 100% is to get glasses that cover more area. That is to say they let less light in from the sides. I’ve seen google style sunglasses that would be great for this. Also, I forgot what the style is called, but old school glacial climbers where glasses that have leather siding that keeps peripheral rays out.

Ha, I win. I bought my lovely “F-Oakley’s” (Fake Oakley’s) at a gas station several years ago. Two pair for $10.

I got F-Oakleys and F-Gargoyles at the mall for 12.50 each…if I could have found a 3rd pair I liked, they woulda been 10 bucks each.

For those of you that buy the expensive ones…what are us cheapskates missing out on ?

The lenses in the gas station shades are made of cheap plastic. You can see waves, and it seems to me that they make everything a little fuzzy.

High quality sunglasses have high quality lenses, better UV protection, and makes my view much sharper.

I have a pair of RayBan polarized and love them. They were $150, I tried them on at a Sunglass Hut and found them online for $20 cheaper. They are light and comfy. I also bought a pair of polarized $10 Strike Kings from the fishing section of Wal-Mart. I use these when I’m afraid of breaking/losing the Ray Bans. Not as comfortable, but they do the job. All of the guys in my unit swear by Oakleys, and this is the cheapest site i’ve ever seen for them, but you have to be military.

UV protection?

I get most of my sunglasses from the Campmor bargain bin. I don’t spend too much more than $15.00, but I get the real thing.

As others have said, the lens quality is superior, as are the mechanics of the glasses themselves - adjustable, can be tightened, etc.

I find the biggest thing is just how they fit, though. I can never get cheap sunglasses that look as good on me as the expensive ones.

I ended up getting this pair of oakley straight jacket glasses. They are just awesome. Polarized, comfortable, and don’t fall off my head if I look down. Its so much easier to drive in bright sun now. No glare or haze anymore.
