Unloaded like 1000lbs of munch and dirt from truck bed 50ft and stack on ground.
What’s up guys, been MIA again, have been training daily just so busy not been able to post. Been kicking up my conditioning, training Krav 3-4 hrs a week, HIIT training, or steady state almost daily depends on the day and how I feel which variation I do.
Noticing I’m in better shape than I thought especially compared to others around me but that’s not enough, I have 5 weeks until rank test so time to kick it up.
It’s basically a 3-4hr beat down. The first 2 hrs are lower rank stuff, striking, kicks, combos etc at a fast jog pace with burpees when people screw up. Then we go to the ground and demonstrate different ground defenses or attacks.
The 3rd hour usually starts with get up 5 times, meaning 5 lower ranks, a fresh body each time, try to hold you down and you have to get up, then 4x3min rounds of rolling followed by 4-6 3 min rounds of sparing.
At this point only the higher ranks (me) are left for about 20 min the entire class attacks you one after another with guns, sticks, knives whatever else and you have to defend whatever they throw at you.
Generally the finisher is where we break up into ranks, everyone has a pad and circle up to beat on a guy in the middle mosh pit style while instructors attack you randomly with stuff that the previous attackers couldn’t like taser knifes and guns that shoot rubber balls.
At the end we finish with 600 strikes between arms and legs.
It’s brutal, people throw up every test, someone bleeds fun for the entire family lol
Been a crazy couple of weeks but I’m still training. Rank test prep has kicked up, I’m coaching my sons 7on7 team and it’s getting warm so the honey do list has been crazy if I’m not in the gym, at the field or home depot I’m doing my day job.
Going in Friday for a nerve blocker on my hip, it started acting up again, not looking forward to it but if it keeps the electric shock away it’s worth it. Otherwise business as usual, hope you are all doing well.
Update:
Haven’t been lifting the last 2 weeks. The first week was to be fresh for the test, this week because I’m beat to hell after testing.
The nerve blocker did nothing, hip was constantly pinching my sciatic nerve shooting electricity down my leg the entire test, nearly passed out mid way through the stupid thing when a guy jumped on my back adding his weight to mine on the nerve. Hardest test by far, lasted a 5 full hours, conditioning held up pretty well but if I can’t find a solution to this hip issue I don’t know if I can take another test like this.
Monday I plan to start lifting again.
Been lifting pretty steady lately but still dealing with a lot of nerve pain and numbness in my hip/leg since the test. Dr put me on medication that was supposed to help the nerve heal however it made me stupid, couldn’t focus even had times where completing sentences was hard, had to stop taking that crap. Going in on the 15th for another nerve shot to see if that helps anything and discuss other options.
hammer curl to twisting curls
10 reps of each without a break
20’s 2 sets
still running 70’s powerlifter, it’s a great free program from Boostcamp.
Hip felt great but it normally does with deadlifts then again I wasn’t going that heavy. Actually feels really good right now.
when it rains it pours I guess. Went out for some bench work at lunch and I think I blew out my right shoulder again. Went for my first rep of 260 and got stapled after hearing and feeling a crunch. Glad I had the safeties set. Stripped the bar and tried to press the bar, nope, well see how it feels tomorrow, probably going to need a doctor.
I have a friend I train Krav with who is a surgeon so I met with him last night for him to look at my shoulder. He doesn’t think it’s a rotator cuff, pec or biceps issue, possible bone spur, only way to know for sure is an MRI. This morning I woke up and it’s better full range of motion with discomfort not extreme pain like yesterday. I talked to Doc this morning and his suggestion is to wait on the MRI and see if it keeps getting better, if it lingers he’ll prescribe a steroid pack to see if he can get over the hump. Praying for it to keep getting better.
Tried to squat today, even using the safety squat bar the pressure on my should wasn’t worth it, luckily I have the belt squat. I honestly don’t use the belt squat enough but when I do I love it. Need to incorporate it more in my training.
Been trying to do more GHR and reverse hypers in an effort to activate my left glute, hopefully that’ll strengthen the joint and ease the hip pain.
Yesterday was shoulder day so I skipped it, shoulders feeling better still weak in certain spots so I just rested. Did go to Krav class last night and everything felt good.
Today I only had a little more than 30min so I got what I could, everything felt good.
Tried to bench just to see, nope can’t do it not even the bar. Shoulder is getting better but only about 70%. Hopefully next week I’ll be able to start over.
