Having grown up in both the rough neighborhoods and the suburbs and such, I really want to know. You strike me as the type of individual who is more or less a non-entity in the real world. Someone who is constantly overlooked or unappreciated. Someone who, outside of your classroom, has no life and no self-esteem.

I understand where you’re coming from Heav. This is something that had been all to common for me while I was in school. We get to say it, but white folk can’t. My personal remedy to that was to just not say it myself. While there are occasions where I’ll slip up (depends on the length of time I’m with my best friend), I usually apologize and refrain simply because it’s a double standard issue. And since I don’t say it, nor do I call anyone by that word, I don’t expect anyone and I do mean anyone to call me that. When guys or girls black or whatever start dropping the “nigga” my way, I quickly let them know that it’s not cool with me. Out of the thousands I’ve encountered with this issue (former bouncer), only ONE did not respect my request. Needless to say, I made an example out of him. To bring this full circle, I do agree that if we expect white people and others to watch their mouths, perhaps we should set the example.

I at least had good intentions with this thread, but it was very poorly executed.
