Strongman, training for Boxing (TX_iron)

That’s cool man, sounds like what I wanted to do coming out of college haha. Keep it up dude!

Haha it’s inevitably a zig-zag career path. Thanks dude! What sort of work did you end up getting into?

Congrats on the new job man, happy to hear good things happening to good people.

Have you been doing the twice a week fasts for very long? Have you done them before? This is something that I’d be interested in for a cut. I’ve had great success with the 5/2 diet, so thinking that this might be in my wheelhouse with some additional benefits.

Wound up in software sales for a while, but just started a new gig in the medical device field. Still under the sales umbrella but in more of a product specialist type of role than a quota carrying sales person.

Thanks man! It’ll be a two week transition so I’ll finally be getting to some of these house projects I haven’t found the time for.

I’m on the first fast of week four, today. I like it a lot man. I need to tighten the slack in terms of diet on the other days though, I don’t think I’m eating quite enough. On fasting days I take Alpha Male and BHB salts in the mornings before my easy cardio which consists of weight vest walks, jogs or light manual labor. I usually eat a relatively early dinner the night before and then eat around 6-7 the day of, and drink coffee & water throughout (I caved with a zero cal energy drink one day).

I’m doing it for health more than leanness, but additional definition is certainly there. I think I’ve lost a little bulk in the chest & shoulder area, so that’s why I’m going to focus on upping calories a bit on regular days.

Nice, do you like it? Dude I find sales so difficult lol, much respect.

I did at first, but then I realized I only liked the money aspect haha. It’s definitely a tough gig, totally understand why there’s so many folks in that line of work that ooze cynicism. The new job is much more my speed.

Found a “comp” that syncs up with my goals of a big deadlift and overhead, 12 weeks from Saturday. I say “comp” because it’s only two events lol, max log and max axle DL. Not 100% sure if I’ll complete because I don’t know how my new work schedule is going to play out, but I’m still going to prep as if I’m competing and do s mock meet if I don’t.

Here’s the plan:

Cycle 1 &2
Deadlift: 5x5-8 @ 80-85%
Overhead: 531 peak routine
Eccentric assistance

Front squat: 5s pro, 5x3 fsl (box)
Bench: 5x5-8 @ 80-85%
Isometric assistance

Deadlift: 531 peak routine
Overhead: 5x5-8 @ 80-85%
Concentric assistance

Cycle 3
Deadlift: 5x5 @ fsl
Overhead: 531 peak routine
Rehab/prehab assistance

Front squat: 5s pro
Bench: 5x5 fsl
Rehab/prehab assistance

Deadlift: 531 peak routine
Overhead: 5x5 @ fsl
Rehab/prehab assistance

It’s a 1,000% awesome mod which should jive with a strongman Saturday and my schedule. I’m going to sprinkle in some of Thib’s approach for the assistance work to add some variety and novel stimuli.

Congratulations on the new job man! And who wouldn’t take a 40% pay increase?

Static monsters? Good luck for the prep.

Thanks man! Thank goodness my wife is as prudent as she is, because I could easily burn through the additional income in a less strategic manner lol.

Yeah static monsters, how’d you know?

It is pretty well known and takes place in multiple countries (not Germany though)

CYCLE 1, WEEK 1

Push press / broad jumps
45x3
135x3
155x3

195x1

Deadlift
EMOM 10x3 @ 315

Eccentric assistance:
MTS incline

EASY 2/HARD 1
Digging out an old flower bed. I think the nature of the work hits the conditioning spectrum nicely.

Really? I had no idea. Well cool, I’ll get to see where I stand across the board.

What’s this?

This guy. I feel like it hits the delta & upper pecs nicely and has a closer grip

Ahh right on, I had a feeling it was a machine.

I used to go to a public gym that had all the plate loaded hammer strength machines. I never took advantage of them aside from the occasional boredom journey. Every now and then I think it’d be cool to go back there to have that access but I probably still wouldn’t use them.

I am really starting to love machines man. I used to avoid them as well after reading all the negative attention via many coaches. I like that they are “safer” in that I can push hard and not worry about failing, plus they lend themselves really well to stuff like slow negatives and drop sets.

We just need to become buddies with The Rock so he’ll let us lift at his place.
