Just wanted to stop in and say Hi! (you’re a huge fan of smilies, right?)

Hey snap lat work has been helping my shoulders out, just a thought. I hit them hard 2x per week for the last 10-11 weeks and shoulders feeling better than they have in a long time.

I do seated lat pulldown as well as standing lat pulls. Any other recommendations for this muscle group are welcome

Ya know i did the same types of things and never gave it much thought until I recently pulled out some old workouts (80’s) when i was a descent bencher just to see what i am missing now a day as i have been getting more serious. I looked at what i used to row and my friggin jaw hit the floor…So i went back to the old t-bar row/db row and just started treating it like an important strength lift and all of the sudden my shoulders feel better. Don’t know how or why just my experience?

Hi Snap!!!

hmmm…i just read the deadlift article and it maxes sense but drives me nuts at the same time! It is totally true that rep number 2 and so on are easier.

I wonder if a theory of using reps of heavy dl’s for abs exists at all. what i like alot is that nice hardness you get on the long, sides of you abs i guess obliques form repping out. I’ve never had that part of my abs get that pump/hardness from anything else, it shows even with the layers of blob on top!

But that’s helpful! I will have to settle down come meet prep time and slow the reps down to singles…sigh. thanks for the info

BTW - thank you for all the encouragement on Skip’s log. It’s been nice to know I have people pulling for me :)
You’re welcome. I like to encourage other women in this sport because it has done so much for my physique and confidence.
Both of you have set a fine example for my daughter (11). She is now self starting physical activities.

Hoping my SO’s daughter (12) will also make the leap.

Actually seeing strong muscular women seems like an effective antidote to the cultures myths of women getting “too bulky”. They can see for themselves that strong women are just drop dead gorgeous. I hope they both also see the appeal of strength as well as much improved health…

I can’t thank you both enough.

Thank you.

I think theres a lot to be said in faovr of what you’re saying Snap. While I’m still a fan of 5/3/1 I think it’s wise to do 2-3 heavy singles after the money set because of what you’re talking about.

Not to mention I also think the only way to adjust to pulling at a meet is to pull singles in training.

looking great snap!

Thanks for all the comments!

Pullin’ Day.

RDL
8/45
5/95

Sumo DL
5/115
5/145
3/175
1/180 should have been 3 . . . distraction
4/185 should have been 3 . . . trying to make up for the lack of reps in the last set

Conventional DL
1/200 easy-peasy

1/215 relatively easy

Believe it or not, this equals my raw best. I’m obviously quite a bit above this number now. Just never gone beyond this weight raw. Always have thrown the gear on in the past. I only plan to have three or four DL sessions in gear before my next meet.

Moved on to training “low-bar” squats. It’s all relative. I usually carry the bar on my neck. Am trying to lower it. A bit hard on my shoulder.
5/45
3/5/95

I know it looks like I’m not hitting depth from this angle. But I am.

Finished up with lat pulldowns, DB shrugs, and HLRs to pike position. These are very hard for me. I guess I don’t have the strongest abs. Yet.

Have you seen Alice in Wonderland Snap (the recent Johnny Depp version)

In the low bar squat vid before you unracked the bar, your feet looked like you were “futterwacking vigorously” lol

Regarding the 215 pull, oh yeah, it’s only slightly obvious that 215 is no longer your max. /sarcasm
You looked like you were warming up with that weight.
Inspiring stuff as always Snapper

nice work with the low bar squats. you would make an awesome multi-plyer:)

Nice pull snap…look strong

Dl looked easy for you. So, why didn’t you throw some more weight on the bar and set a PR?

you make all your lifts look so clean and easy…

very nice.

good work on the deads progress. 215 will be beat for sure.

Always nice to see how its “supposed” to be done  very nice girl!

Great videos! I love to watch you pull and squat.

That 215 deadlift is beautiful. The fact that you find no setup necessary tells me that’s no where near your raw max. Nice!

Yeah, right.

Well, I’ll tell you why. I’m trying to be smart. My back doesn’t tolerate conventional DLing in quantity. So I’m sumoing for reps (low, I’ll admit) and then pulling two heavy singles conventionally. I don’t want to risk doing too much and pay the price of back pain at this point in my training cycle. Also, I have to admit that I enjoy dragging out the gains with this lift. Quite honestly, I don’t regularly max in DL (to failure) except on the platform. And I haven’t maxed raw in training in a long time. I tend to throw on the suit once I hit 200 lb. But my raw max is obviously much higher than that. This cycle, I’m delaying the gear until just weeks out from the meet. I’ll see how that works for me.

Great work. For a minute I thought you were going to go hit that front bar too! I’m a huge fan of HLRs after deadlifts as it seems almost theraputic. I also like planks between sets.

I think that women are so much better about training smart than men are. We really let ego get in the way of that.
