Strong Little Snapper

do you feel my jealousy waves regarding your squat?

damn you got freaky hips to be able to do that. which one felt better to you? the first one looked stronger from this end (femurs not quite long enough to get your knees out to your ankles on the second).

for me a wider stance results in more adductor work and less glute / hamstring work (the more my knees gotta go out the less my butt can sit itself back). but then i got weird hips. guess that was why i thought the wider stance was for geared meets, though (the mechanics of the gear helped the hips so adductors + gear were stronger than glutes / hamstrings + gear). but i dunno. knees out wide and butt back should be possible… guess i just have femoral impingement when i try.

That wide squat was insane. I wonder how load would effect it?

oh my, that stance is really wide. Work up the weight slowly to protect those adductors, mine were just screaming watching you do that raw.
 !!

Frenchy: Jealousy? You?

Alexus: I do have crazy flexible hips. With narrow-stance squats, it was a constant battle to not drop too low. I love that I have better control in the hole with the wide-stance. Definitely the first squat in the vid felt better. The second was too wide. I just did it to demonstrate my crazy hip flexibility. But the strength is not there when I get past a certain point. The whole law of diminishing returns concept.

Joe: Figuring out how load will affect my stance is my next experiment. I gotta say that I’m having a blast with this. I feel like I’m on the verge of a breakthrough with my squat.

Lil Power: I’m trying to emulate YOUR form more than anyone else’s. No pain in my adductors. However, I was only squatting a 45-lb. bar. I plan to train this entire cycle raw. So we’ll see how I hold up. Definitely the gear will provide some protection. I’m planning to order a wide-stance squat soon. And soon.

Can’t figure out how I can squat so wide with decent form and yet can’t master a sumo DL. It just baffles me.

Damn that is a wide stance! Incredible.

And its nice to see PMPM in the vids - lol! And her fancy yellow heels.

Meet vids were awesome and you did fantastically.

So interesting to hear about the post-meet training - what to do, what to do…

seriously, of all the logs on TN, and I mean ALL of them, i always feel I learn the most about PLing from yours. Holistically speaking.

Great stuff Snap. You truly are a gifted lifter and an inspiration.

Yay for imminent squat breakthroughs. Good work!

I think I might do something like this today on my squat work. See how wide I can get going down to parallel. I do this a few weeks, and maybe the adductors will strengthen up enough to hold the load with knees wide, but less-so than in these workouts. Between these, wall squats(which I am going to start doing 100 reps of throughout every day at home), and all the assorted glute work, I am gonna try and work the knee cave situation I am having out.

Wow, that’s wide. I was expecting to hear a ripping sound any moment.

Christ “Snap” just watching you squatting that wide has caused me to re pull my left groin again.OUCH.

Wow! Sumo squats!

i’d be really curious to see a side on vid of those two stances. interested in what effect stance width has on sitting back and forward lean. in particular whether a wider stance prevents sitting back as hard and whether a wider stance results in a more upright torso position. i’d try… but my hips don’t quite move the way yours do. Doh! Now I’ve probably ruined things by saying what I’m looking for… just ignore me if you like.

Looking forward to following your new cycle, this is a great log.

I have no desire to ignore you. I admire your intellect.

I will oblige with a side vid on Friday. I’m curious myself to see what it looks like with my feet that wide. So check back then.

I’m betting the wider stance leads to a more upright torso to a point and then you start to see the reverse.

We shall see, Joe.

Well, I couldn’t find a bench program that I liked. So I wrote my own. Believe it or not, the girl who hates reps is doing working sets of 8s right now. I’m really focusing on form, holding my arch. And that is a tremendous amount of work if done properly. My back and glutes feel more toasted than my upper body after today’s session.

I also did seated row, overhead tricep extension, standing lat pulldown, pecs on the pec deck, and decline situps. Yep. I’m going to start working my abs again.

i bet the program you write for yourself will be great, and if it works please share! i could use a decent bench program ALWAYS

Thanks snapper. I’m prone to modern day variants of mistakes in reasoning like ‘the earth can’t move because movement is defined in relation to the earth’, though. Still, I quite selfishly like being wrong because then I get to learn something.

Now what the heck is a decline sit-up? An incline sit-up with the slope reversed? Why? (never heard of it)

Good to see you back at it with a plan. Myself, I really need to keep tabs on that lack of direction following a meet. Often it leads to 2 months of lackluster training, and then a 6 month hiatus before I’m able to get serious again.

Is there something wrong with Westside.
Westside is a very well-known and proven PL program. I’m not sure what Pete was referring to specifically.
Can’t quite recollect what I meant either, was probably attempting to be a smart ass…
