Same page! I’m going for the high score

Matching… you are too good! I don’t even wear matching socks in my sandals. According to me, if the socks are the same style but different colors then it’s okay! :white_check_mark:

It’s cool that he’s grown up around weights… I think that either interests kids or deters them in the long term depending on their experience. If they feel any kind of pressure they’re more likely to dismiss the gym and that’s why making it a fun experience is so very important.

When I was training for my powerlifting competitions they would roll their eyes about me having to “go in the gym AGAIN!” and it didn’t make it sound like a fun place to be because it was taking away from their time with me. Now they are older and really appreciate the things I can teach them!

Does he like to do any outdoor activities? I have found that if you distract them with a cool new outdoor activity or sport it keeps them away from the screen for longer. It’s even better if it’s something you can do together (if you have time, of course)

We’ve all been here before but it’s for his own good! He’ll hate it now but thank you later

Slightly off topic, but what brand are those farmers walk handles? The stands seem like they would make loading just a ton easier.

That’s a good question—I have no idea… my husband found them on Facebook marketplace of all places! They are very convenient to load, even the 45’s slide on without having to lift them :ok_hand:t3:

They aren’t fancy but they do the trick!

Thats my #1 rule. Keep it fun. Ive been maybe a little too careful to not turn it into drills or something to be avoided.

He does like hiking and we have a great rail trail system within a stones throw for biking, which we’ve used a good bit.

As I’m reviewing these habbits & hobbies its becoming clear that Ive been kind of dropping the ball on motivating or innitiating more outdoor fun stuff.

I scrapped my old mountain bike this past spring. I think its time to get a new one to hit the trails with the kiddo on.

Heck, he even uses the lawnmower too, as long as I’m doing it with him.

That’s a great idea! We do a lot of mountain biking too… it’s so much fun for everyone.

Awesome!! Send him over my way

My problem is I’m the opposite. My default is to dig in too much and I think it’s made any expectations with dad not fun

The boys took a few extra days off from the gym because they were busy doing fun summer stuff—swimming, mountain biking, paddle boarding, celebrating birthdays, having sleepovers, playing with friends and cousins etc…

The oldest had to drop out of the workout after the push ups and learned a lesson about the importance of eating and sleeping properly. He stayed up too late at a sleepover and didn’t eat a lot at dinner and breakfast so he was feeling very weak and tired.

He wanted to continue but it wasn’t going to be productive so he went to eat and relax because mom and step dad said so! He’s the kind of kid who doesn’t like to eat a lot but he heard that we are doing a field workout tomorrow so he’s been packing in the food and wants to go to bed early :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Nice! This is a tough lesson - they have to experience it many times to start to get it

Definitely a tough lesson! He’s been eating a lot more during the day now. They always get a lot of sleep so whenever they have sleepovers with their friends and stay up late I notice a huge difference the next day.

I feel like a lot of adults still haven’t figured this out yet, lol. Sleep and proper nutrition help build stronger and more capable human beings!

Took a few extra days off this week because of the heat. It was 104 degrees so we spent the past 3 days at the lake and exploring.

Sprints and push ups at the beach! It has been very hot so we have been taking a break from the gym and doing outdoor activities. We are going to do another fitness assessment next week to see how much they’ve improved since June 29th
