Strength and Conditioning Training Log

10/06/2015

Really late finish at work today so just did a 40 minute run

11/06/2015

Outing in the coxless 4, last bit of prep before raceday.

13/06/2015

First day of racing went disastrously. Technical issues with the boats meant an early exit in the coxed 4s which I really think we could have won, but instead we went out first round.
We then entered a scratch 8 and lost first round by 1 foot. Wasn’t too bothered about this is we don’t even have our own 8 to train in, but the 4 was massively disappointing.

14/06/2015

Second day of racing and in the coxless 4 our Henley crew. This was the big one to test where we are.

Started with a time trial and top 4 go into semis. Absolutely smashed this with the fastest time despite clipping the bridge halfway through.

So we got into the final 4 on the long course event for the champs 4 prize. Absolutely nailed the start, but the other crew stayed level. I called a push about 500m in, opened up a gap and from there we just pushed off them. By last 500m I called us down to keep us efficient and save some in the tank for the final. We ended up winning by well over 3 lengths, only for the finish line marshal to disqualify us for going on the wrong side of the buoy by about a foot. Something which had no impact on the race result at all. The crew that ended up going through then only lost in the final by less than half a length. I have never been so furious, the decision was down to his discretion and he chose to put the slowest crew through and my winless 3 years still goes on…

I am taking the positive that we proved we have the pace, now we just have to build on and do that for Henley qualifiers!

14km in the 4 with 3 x 2.1km race pieces max effort. One of the toughest water sessions I have ever done.

12km outing in the 4.

Session 2

Very tough weekend of rowing. The last chance to get high volume, high intensity work. Some really good work done, but I don’t ever remember feeling this drained.

23/06/2015

8km outing in the 4. Last session before Henley.

12 of 34 to qualify from the time trial. Despite the nerves so,excited for this. The biggest club regatta in the world and can’t believe I’m getting a shot at this after the setbacks this year. In between racing will also get chance to see world champions Great Britain against Olympic champions Germany.

Light cycle yesterday and sports massage today. Feeling as strong as I could do at this point! Qualifiers are tomorrow and if we do that all races will be streamed live!
