So found out I had scabies leaving me suffering with cut up, raw, blistered skin and unbearable itching leading to a few sub par session last week. Done my best to continue, but sweating exacerbated it. Seems to be clearing up after the treatment now.

Short on time today so did the following session in just under 30 minutes which was tough, but went ok considering the past couple of weeks.
6km on erg 1:55.4 split.
30 minutes on erg 1:54.9 split.
Joined in with someone else on the 2nd part hence the random times/distances, but overall close to 14km at a solid pace at this point as I am still getting back into consistent uninterrupted training.

Insert:
Done as fast and explosive as possible
DB Snatch: 24kg x 5 each hand
Power cleans: 40kg x 5
DB Snatch 30kg x 5 each hand
Power Cleans: 40kg x 5
I see that you are still working very hard. Im about to start running a bit more, and Im already noticing a slight drop in strength, especially when it comes to lifts in the 8-12 rep range.
Do you have any philosophies/methods that you follow with your weight training, that takes into account that you do your fair share of cardio. I see you keep most things in the lower rep range. Do you ever do reps of 8+?
@theBird - I generally go low reps and aim to go hard and heavy. It seems to keep my strength whilst doing huge volumes of cardio. My plan is loosely based on Alpha’s workouts before they became more strongman focused with conditioning first, then strength (currently doing my own adapted version of Thibadeau’s layer system, but with less volume), then giant sets.
I rarely go above 8 reps as I just don’t seem to respond as well, enjoy the training less and I find my form tends to drop. I have only ever been injured or tweaked anything once in weight training, everything else was from sport. Although I am considering changing things up a little after being dropped from the top 4 and the disaster of a race today.

Sometimes setbacks are good for you. Makes you work harder and focus more on your goals.

I guess but at this point in time I am so demoralised. It is really hard to take after almost winning in a higher category to being one of the slowest on the river. I need to take a look at how I am doing things when I have calmed down, but the 4 was so bad I couldn’t even get power down so fitness was irrelevant.
Well yesterday’s race was one of the most humiliating performances I can remember. I will write a race report and my current feelings on how things are going and where I can get to.
Been a bit slack logging last week, but busy buying my first ever car (YEAH!), had my birthday on Wednesday and a few other bits, but rest assured I have been training, 1 erg, 1 weights session and 1 turbo not logged.

1st outing:
Got a few people back now so 2nd 4 is a lot stronger and the experiment of the last race has been scrapped after the most humiliating defeat I can remember.
13km outing in coxed 4. Went really well today, on 2 of the 3 pieces we pulled away from the top 4
30 minutes yoga session
2nd outing:
Coach moved us into the new boat after the morning’s performance. 13km and smashed them again.

11km outing in coxed 4. Scratch crew today, but picked up my car so things should be on the way up. It will free up a lot of time and make getting to the gym and to the boathouse a lot more viable and I think training with the squad will make a big difference.
